Green on Croyle.
It's the young guy's place to shut your mouth and pay attention. Not the vet's place to put his arm around the rookie and mentor him, it's the coach's job.
Sounds like he's not real eager to help develop Croyle. A little disappointing. |
Well I can't argue with what he said
|
He gave a good true answer. . . not that he doesn't want to help, the young player's career is the young player's responsibility.
|
I think the idea of vets embracing and teaching rookies is largely a myth...this is about jobs...
|
Why should he? It should be Croyle's responsibility along with help from the QB coach and offensive coordinator.
|
It's always real good for our team when we have players who don't want to help young players....
Or bitch about it when we want to get another player cough eddie kennison cough. |
That doesn't sound like a Trent Green answer at all. I take it he was nonplussed with this selection.

Self-preservation, plain and simple.
I didn't expect him to say anything different. |
He said it would have been disrespectful if the Chiefs would have used a first rounder on a QB too.

I just watched that same interview. He made it clear that he has no intention of handing the reigns to Croyle.
He checked himself a little by saying that if somebody comes to him and asks questions, that he will help them out. Still, his demeaner was a side of Green I haven't seen in an interview before. Nothing too controversial, but definitely a reality check. |

Can't say I blame him. It would be nice for older players to recognize when they are nearing the end though and be cooperative about making the next geberation of the team better. I know it's a bit candyland, but I think to think of my team as a bunch of the good guys. |

Green's responsibility is to run the offense...period. He's not there to "groom" anybody or make sure KC has a successor ready when it's time for him to go. Personally, I'd rather he focus on his job and leave the coaching to the coaches.
|
Green restructured his contract to help the team build defense and they draft a QB.
Green has a job to do. He wants to win as much as anyone. Green is not a baby sitter. If the baby QB has a question, Green will answer it. No problems here with Green. FAX |

here let me show you how to make millions, my millions

All of the other players on the show agreed and basicly said the same thing.

Green has had a long road to being a starter, and I think he's maybe getting a little worried being the man in an offense where the coach isn't in love with him :-) I don't think Herm's gonna go messing with the only QB to throw for over 4,000 yards the last 3 seasons, but 3-4 years from now, Green will be flat out old. QB takes time, for example, IMO Phillip Rivers is starting at an ideal time.

I am curious how you guys deal when your company hires a new guy that does the same job as you. Do you go out of your way to show the new guy everything or do you let him figure it out on his own?

You want the truth?! You can't handle the TRUTH!
Well I'd rather Green tell it like it is instead of spoonfeeding us sugar-coated words that we can eat up readily. |
My guess is Trent will do a great deal to help him, and part of it starts with "tough love" of sorts, by being consistant in reinforcing that no one can help a rookie more than the rookie himself.
Once a rookie adopts that mentality, they have already learned their first very important lesson about success in the NFL. |
Why does everyone think that veterans will immediately mentor a rookie QB? IIRC We have a new OC and Trent Green has enough concerns right now with learning somwhat new plays and some new terminology, mentoring a QB that probably wont start a game for us for at least 3 seasons (including this upcoming one) is more than likely not on his priority list.
If Croyle wants to learn the ropes its up to him to show the initiative that he wants to learn. I'm more than sure that if he wants to learn from Green, that Green will be more than happy to teach him whatever he can because Trent is a fantastic teammate, but having that said, its totally up to Croyle because Croyle has to take into account that he'll be riding the pine a few seasons. |
Green isn't worried about his job. Green knows there isn't another QB on the roster qualified to carry his briefcase. Green wants to win a SB. Green wants a defense. Green wants a possession wide out. Green just watched CP draft a QB in the third round after giving up millions to help the Chiefs build a D before everyone in the offense fucking retires. Green was asked a question. Green answered it.
Still no problem here with Green. FAX |
Kilian, Printers, Croyle...Trent's gonna be bugged to death. Huard better learn to block for him

I don't have a problem with his answer. I think he's well aware that Croyle isn't a threat to him. He's only a threat to Huard, Printers, etc. He's not a QBotF unless we switch to a west coast offense.
|
I think Croyle was a fantastic pick despite the fact that it was not defense. It would be a consensus great pick if Carl were doing anything for defense at all in free agency.
And I like the answer from Trent as well. |
Trent said the exact same thing about young QBs last year during the draft, and he said it well before the Chiefs ended up taking Killian. His answer is his answer, it has nothing to do with him not wanting to help Croyle or any such thing.
|
he's basically saying in so many words that he's a lead by example guy... he's not going to go out of his way, he's going to make croyle work to get the info he needs--basically, weeding out the player if he doesn't put the work and dedication that TRENT GREEN put into football to make him who he is today...I think croyle will be a better player for having been 'mentored' by trent green in this fashion
|
Croyle needs to learn all he can from Trent. He is a professional on and off the field. Now if he can teach Croyle how to throw a block.

The old dogs always have to nip the young pups and let them know who is boss.

Green will guide the Chiefs to the next two SB wins and then ride off into the sunset.

...Or a team player for that matter. |
He basically said he is not going to take Croyle in as his little pet.
There is 3 other QB fighting for jobs and playing favoritism to one would not be fair to the others. Its not his job to pick who is going to be his successor, its his job to QB this team to a SB |
