Your third home...

If you were quite rich and didn't have to work, and could have three homes in the continental United States, where would they be?

If you could have three homes in the world (which can still include the U.S.), where would they be?

In the continental U.S., I'd go with a place in Manhattan, New York, a place in Vail, Colorado, and a place in Laguna Beach, California.

Worldwide, I'd still want a U.S. base, and I would probably make it Vail, Colorado. Then I'd have a place in the Marquesas, Tahiti, and a place in Paris, France.

Inspector 05-10-2006 10:11 AM

One in KC - 5 kids and (currently) 4 grandkids require me to be close by.

One on a Carribean beach.

One at the lake of the Ozarks. (Actually we already have a place, but I'd build a bigger, nicer one.)

chagrin 05-10-2006 10:12 AM

I'm going with:
A HUGE custom built Log Cabin in Manistique, Michigan

A nice Antebellum Home in Southern Louisiana, probably New Orleans or an outlying town

Finally, I would have to build on Paradise Island on Nassau, Bahamas

Kclee 05-10-2006 10:13 AM

Cardiff, CA
Fort Myers, FL
Las Vegas, NV

Rain Man 05-10-2006 10:15 AM

What's in Manistique, MI, and Cardiff, CA?

Manistique is in Michigan's Upper Penninsula. I lived up there for a while in the 90s, during my 1st marriage. It's so beautiful, the people are very, very friendly; it's alot like Fargo, lots of funny, quirky characters. It's not very developed and it's right on Lake Michigan; best thing of all? NO RAP MUSIC, LOW Crime and people still know what customer service is.

Also, lots of wildlife, snowmobile trails galore, land everywhere untouched..ahh, what a place!

Rain Man 05-10-2006 10:23 AM

I must someday visit this mythical utopia of Manistique.

ChiefsOne 05-10-2006 10:25 AM

1) Build a big ass house right here in Springfield, close to family and great place for the kids.
2) In the mountians, probably Colorado.
3) By the beach for the kids, Florida panhandle or Miami beach.

World....
New Zealand
Greece
Central Europe

Cardiff is nice middle ground. Closer to San Diego, than L.A. There is so much in that area and Cardiff is right off the beach and kind of right in near everything but without the touristy people bothering you. The views overlooking the ocean are cool. Just a little piece of quite to make up for my Vegas home.

sedated 05-10-2006 10:28 AM

Compton, East St Louis, KCK (anywhere on Quindaro)

Katipan 05-10-2006 10:29 AM

I want my family compound to be in Vegas. I want a ski condo in a nice area but not so nice that I have to wear Louis Vuitton tampons. And I'll take one sprawling beach party house in San Diego.

Other countries scare me.

Stinger 05-10-2006 10:35 AM

Since I have no real desire to live outside the US. Don't mind visiting just would rather stay in the US.

1. In the Carolinas near Greenville. One of my favorite area is in Sunset Carlolina.

Main Reason

Plus you got the moutains and the ocean with in a couple of hours

2.Destin, FL - Just because we have a lot of family memories there and to us it is a beautiful place.

3. I know it is not flashy but probably get a few acres here in Springfeild and build a house. Love the area for family and raising kids.

Hilton Head, Mission Hills, and Balboa Island.

Sorry if that's a let down, but Jerusalem, Damascus, and Bagdad have gone to hell recently.

1. a beautiful home in Fiji Islands
2. A mansion on 17 mile drive near Carmel California
3. The Bad ass home in Colorado from Dumb & Dumber

Katipan 05-10-2006 10:49 AM

Balboa Island... Newport Beach?

Duh. Why do you think I picked it? I'm having to clean up that place since you left.

kepp 05-10-2006 10:52 AM

U.S.-

1. I'd buy 100 acres or so and build a big house where I grew up in Central MO.
2. Somewhere near mountains - Mammoth, CA or Vail, CO or Brian Head, Utah - someplace like that
3. A nice home on the beach in San Diego

International-

1. Same as #1 from above
2. I'd buy the resort that my wife and I stayed at on our honeymoon - Phuket, Thailand
3. I'm thinking somewhere in Australia with this one. I've never been there, but my wife has lived there and raves about it.

MahiMike 05-10-2006 10:56 AM

Jax, FL
Schwarzach, Austria
Island of Rhodos, Greec

Frazod 05-10-2006 10:58 AM

Custer, South Dakota for summers.
Scottsdale, Arizona for the rest of the time, except I'd need a condo near Arrowhead for game weekends.

Baby Lee 05-10-2006 11:03 AM

1. Huge azz condo, CPW.
2. High on a bluff at Lake of the Ozarks.
3. Greek island.

joesomebody 05-10-2006 11:34 AM

1. Central MO, secluded couple 100 acres of timber.
2. Gotta Admit, the mountains here in northern Utah are awesome... If I'm rich I can import beer, so that's covered.
3. Cabin somewhere in Alaska near the ocean.

1. Central Missouri
2. Northern Japan
3. Some tropical island... only place like that I've been is Hawaii, I'd prefer a less touristy tropical island though.

StcChief 05-10-2006 11:46 AM

Houses stay in U.S. visit the world.

Big Log cabin spread on 100 acres wilderness in central S. MO where land is still reasonable on Current river.

Condo in Chicago downtown area.

Beach house North of San Diego.

luv 05-10-2006 11:59 AM

US - Chicago, IL; Estes Park, CO; Richmond, VA

World - Madrid, Spain; Sydney, Australia; London, England

* Not listed in any order of preference.

ct 05-10-2006 12:10 PM

One in Jackson Co. Missouri
Another in Florida, west coast
The third in SoCal, San Diego area maybe.

Really not interested in living out of the country. If I'm that loaded, fancy resorts for cross-border/pond travel is fine by me.

Daughter? You are God's Son. And Christians are considered the children of God. Shouldn't you be calling me sister?

The trinity thing continues to confuse some; I should have scratched that.

jidar 05-10-2006 02:32 PM

I already go to all your moms houses.

Hydrae 05-10-2006 02:53 PM

Bend, Oregon (Would love to retire here someday)
La Jolla, Ca (Only because I am rich, otherwise this could not happen)
Sedona, Az (My wife would kill me if I didn't include this one)

Worldwide -
I agree with those who would rather not buy out of the country although I would prefer to get something (buy or rent) wherever I travelled so I can stay there for 6 months or more to get the "local flavor."
Lucerne, Switzerland is the one exception to this. I have been once and still think it was the most beautiful place I have ever seen.

Instead of a house I wonder if I could just have a room at a hotel. Picking which hotel would be tough though.
