Law & Surtain: The Best CB Tandem in the League?
(Since it's all but "official". http://www.kansascity.com/mld/kansascity/15106482.htm )
Law & Surtain: The Best CB Tandem in the League? That would have definitely been true 2-3 years ago. Is it still true? :hmmm: I don't know. If they are both healthy, and have "gas left in the tank" then I think they could be... Even if they are healthy, and ready to play though, I'm not sure they will live up to their billing, UNLESS Sims and the DTs pick it up with more pressure from the inside. AND they get help from our safeties. Otherwise they could become the two most overpaid "older" CBs in the league. :banghead: Here's hoping that Sims and Wesley (along with Edwards, Junior, and Pollard--not to mention Hali) can make a difference. :toast: |
yes
|
They COULD be .......... alot depends on the defensive scheme and coaching.
i just pray that the new secondary coach and Edwards can hold Gunther's hand enough to help him not screw it up. |
depends on Gunther and Ryan Sims....[/insert crying noise]

Two years older. With a lack of pressure from out DTs, and inconsistent Safety play....especially in coverage? Maybe not. I wonder if they can do it by themselves at this stage in their careers. :hmmm: |
No, Champ Bailey and X corner on the other side are always the best!
|
Ravens, C. McCalister/S. Rolle (very similar age)
Bucs, R. Barber/B. Kelly Falcons- D. Hall/j. Williams (Best young corner tandem) |
I'd say that going into the season.....a Law & Surtain CB tandem should be considered the best in football....
but by midseason.....bailey & d-will will be considered the best....;) |
ok lets map this out....
Tamba Sims Browning Allen Bell Mitchel Johnson Law Wesley Knight Surtain They just need to be in the to 15 D's in the league and the Offense should take care of the rest. |

Law takes over the one spot. Surtain moves to the 2 and covers the same receiver he covered last year from the one spot== the two receiver.
|
any starting lineup that doesn't include eric hicks is an improvement.
|
Hopefully there's some interest and some money left for Dwight Smith, because as great as Law and Surtain may be, I'm not looking forward to seeing Wesley or Knight try to keep everything in front of them.
|
Too bad the friggin' OrangeMange is still down....:banghead::banghead::banghead:
Delayed "smack" ain't NEVER as satisfying as when the adrenaline is going. :( :p Quote:

recxjake breaks the story here on CP at 3:23 pm. Nick Athan breaks the story on W.P.I. at 5:03 pm. Anyone feeling the "need" for that "premium" membership???? :hmmm: ROFL |

So, does anyone agree with my earlier post?
There was a question in this thread, no? |
I was on the OM earlier today

That's not to say they will perform better, because we do have some issues at DT and Safety which need to be addressed if they are to play up to their billing. |
What has me pleased is Law and Surtain are the right type of corners for Edwards defensive philosophy. Thus, the personnel are starting to match the scheme.
|
with Law and Surtain on the outsides and guys like Wesly, Knight, and the Benard "Bone Crusher" Pollard in the middle just wrecking and plain smashing anything not wearing red we might have one helluva secondary...Chiefs...SB winners, is there any doubt

Kelly and Barber work very well together in Kiffin's scheme, but could probably not play as well for other teams. Hall is an A++ CB for the next several years, arguably as good as Bailey. Williams needs to prove himself, but people don't doubt his potential. If he develops, next year they will top this list. (If you were building a franchise, this is the pair you'd want). I think that it is arguable that we now have the best tandem with these other pairings, but having definitely a top-3 tandem is not small potatoes. Trust me, I am partying down!!! PBJ PBJ |

I think they would be without a doubt before the whole "illegal contact" rule was as strictly enforced as it is now, but definitely still top three.

Personally, I'd take the Atlanta youngsters. For now, and into the future. You are right. They will be very good for a long time. As for the Ravens and Bucs, both are pro-bowl caliber pairs--no doubt about it. I do think both pairs though have a better "supporting cast" than either Surtain or Law have had, generally (sans Law's NE Superbowl days.) I think the experience of Surtain and Law, together with the attitude they both bring to the field is precisely what you need at CB. And they both bring the wood better than those other pairs, IMO. McCallister and Rolle, in particular, are good cover guys....but I'd rather have Law and Surtain for blitzing and hard tackling. Same goes for Kelley and Barber, IMO. Rgardless, it's SWEET to be having a discussion arguing over whether the Chief's CBs are 1st, or 3rd in the NFL. :) |

Unless one's name is Champ or Deangelo...forget it.
|
Not even close. Surtain is still really good, Law is decent, but both are livng more off their names now than actual talent. Law got burnt a lot last year and led ALL Cornerbacks in Pass Interference penalties.
|
McCalister + Rolle or Lucas + Gamble are the best.
|
Ask this question again in, say, October, when we'll have something to base an answer on.

I suspect those penalties last year, were in part....the lack of help he had on Defense, along with he wasn't 100% physically. I realize his name carries some weight, but if Edwards is on the bandwagon....so am I. :) |
Law and Surtain could be the # 1 CB tandem in the NFL
But could we please please please get some better Safety play this year so we dont have to play the corners twenty five yards off the LOS |
Quote:
recxjake has better contacts than Athan? How is that possible??????:hmmm: recxjake, how much do you charge for your inside information? |
Lito Sheppard and Sheldon Brown of the Eagles probably belong in the discussion. I don't think I'd rank them the best but they're probably up there with some of the names that get more press. They usually have a lot of pressure put on them because the Eagles blitz so much.

we're happy...but think how happy Roaf and Shields are...we're loading up for their last year...this will great for team morale, imho, and leadership in the locker room as Law definetly walks the walk...and doesn't carry a Gucci man purse...

I still wish that we would've signed Rocky Benard. Then we really wouldnt have a hole on defense.

It beats the hell out of Bartee :Bartee: waving his fingerless flippers in futility at errantly thrown balls. |
INTs are a huge part of it of a good CB. It takes a lot to finish a play and Ty Law has that ability. You remember the Dallas Game.
|
I don't think they are the two best at this point but they will make a fine combo and the only two that I believe could make the scheme Gunther ran last year work as combo.
|
i wonder how Surtain will fit in a cover 2 scheme
|
as far as im concerned F?CK YEA

woo hoo. cant bitch at Carl for not trying this year.
|
hell no there not, ty gets picked on alot which is why he had so many Ints and surtain isnt that great. The best CB tandems are panthers, jacksonville, falcons, cincy, baltimore and chicago.
|
Quote:
Uh, Having a lot of int's means you suck and you are picked on alot? :spock: I guess having a lot of passing TD's means that defenses are not focusing on you and are stopping the run. Having a lot of rushing yards probably means that defenses are playing prevent against your team. |

It is not the mange but it is something http://forum.signonsandiego.com/uplo...09#post2108809 |
Maybe Law was thinking... Philip Rivers, Aaron Brooks, Jake Plummer... yeah, I'll sign.
|
My god this news has made my dick so hard, I could hunt with it!

please.....kennison isn't even worth bailey's time.... kennison got most his plays versus our lesser db's... bailey is the games best....period. |

you do realize the guy he picked off werent great right and they working on him. Meaning he Int'd some crappy QBs like JP losman!! got lucky with the ones from trent and brady. He picked off tui and delhomme who are int machines. He picked off chris simms in his first staart for crying out loud. Hes overated and your going to see how many times he gets exploited. |

D hall is and nate vasher will be better and even tillmen from the bears. Lucas and gamble are a little better to. |
Don't know, but they are in the discussion, which is much better than the last few years.
IMO, Law is a playmaker and leader, which we've lacked on defense. In the past, all of our playmakers resided on the offensive side of the ball. It's nice to balance it out a little more. |

there isn't an athlete in pro-sports that isn't about the money... none of this made up nonsense has anything to do with the fact of Law being an excellent cornerback.. |

ok uprade yes maybe, but excellent is not the word. overated and gets burnt is. he gives up alot of big plays. |
Those sigs are way out of sig limits... better pare them down to one, or they will take away your sig rights..
