So, What are the Chances of Adding FS Dwight Smith?
Saftey pay being what it is, is there any chance we sign him? :hmmm:
I mean, maybe a one year deal??? I say, probably "no...." :( I figure between Hali, and trying to secure and pay Gonzo and LJ, and maybe Mitchell and Allen, for the long term....there won't be enough money. I hope I'm wrong. I'd love to see him playing FS for us next year, especially with the addition of Law now. :) |
Slim to none. And Slim just left town. [/redneck]
|
several teams are said to be interested
he will go back to the Buccs |
It probably won't happen. But I will ejaculate if it does. I'll probably ejaculate either way.
|
Are you serious....?
I mean come on...keep it real people. |

Safety is way underappreciated, AND "under-paid" by NFL standards. Why not take advantage of that and upgrade this team, in this narrow "window" we have, on the 'cheap?' |
Our shot here is that the cap is going to inflate majorly next year.......and we have some players due to age and cuts that will probably be coming off. I don't see it happening but if they plan this out it could be possible.
We'd probably have to give a nice bonus though and I don't know how keen Lamar is going to be to that this year especially after Law. |

I agree. I don't think it's out of the realm of possibility. But, I don't think it's in the budget. |
Pipe dream! Enjoy smoking it Mr. Kotter and pass some my way when you are done

http://www.chiefsplanet.com/BB/showp...9&postcount=34 I did read something to where he is interested in going back to Tampa, and the short list of teams interested did not include KC. things change though (meaning $) |
Tampa was after 10 million dollar
Charles Woodson for safety Smith will be easy money |
Law agrees to a contract
with in a few short hours Chiefs fans dream of other FAs |
here is something I just found. A small newsclip about Smith
Vikings | Team may visit with D. Smith as early as Monday Sat, 22 Jul 2006 16:36:35 -0700 Kevin Seifert, of the Star Tribune, reports the Minnesota Vikings may host free agent S Dwight Smith (Saints) as early as Monday, July 24. Smith has a strong relationship with Vikings defense coordinator Mike Tomlin when the two were with Tampa Bay. As previously noted, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers reportedly also are interested in signing Smith, who also can play at nickel back in their cover-2 defense. |
Are we getting greedy now?

Smoot, Winfield, Sharper and Smith would be a heck of a defensive backfield. Even without him they have Tank Williams who can be more than adequate if he's not hurt. Dustin Fox would be another ideal canidate for the spot as he played some corner at Ohio State and fits in that coverage scheme. Back to the subject at hand, I can't imagine with possible extensions of current players and rookie signings looming that the Chiefs can find the room to get Smith under contract. |

The only way for this to happen is if Carl runs off with Lamar's credit card.
|
We have Bonecrusher!

I could see Carl closing a deal for Michael Bennett before getting Smith.
|
I dont think he will come back to Tampa, when he left it was not on the best of terms. Minnesota wouldn't be a bad fit for him considering Tomlin is there or Detroit with Marinelli.

Wow! Dwight Smith now 'ey, boys!
I'd have to say your D would do well with a versatile player like Smith. I hated to see him go, but if we could get him back it'd be nice. |
Since Hali/Croyle are not signed, highly doubt money is
there. |
With the signing of Law, I think it would be more probable to see someone like Walls or Hodge tried at FS than signing Smith(who didn't choose the Chiefs last year).

I mean, if Lamar gave me his credit card and all. :p |
Can we sign him? Definitely.
Will we even pursue him? I doubt it. |

Theres also a downside to that as well, we dont wanna be in cap hell or have any type of money issues when we are in a re-building phase. BTW, who do you think would replace King Carl in 4-5 years? Thum maybe?!? |
