Next Batman Movie - The New Joker Revealed

Heath Ledger

http://filmforce.ign.com/articles/719/719898p1.html

I'm intrigued by this pick obviously has the grin of the joker but due to his teeney bopper movie roles in the past and romantics I don't know if he can really play a psychotic criminal mastermind. Sorry if this was a repost I didnt see it on the first three pages so figured it was good.

Adept Havelock 08-02-2006 04:19 PM

Hmmm...from Liam Neeson to Heath Ledger.

A significant fall-off in villainous talent, methinks.

R&GHomer 08-02-2006 04:21 PM

No body, but NO BODY is going to top Jack Nicholson as the joker. He was perfect for the role.

beavis 08-02-2006 04:22 PM

Good grief. That's about the most ridiculous casting decision since Carrot Top played Hamlet.

tk13 08-02-2006 04:26 PM

Give the part to Matt Damon. He has the smile. We can say the Joker hails from Boston.

Batman: The laugh track ends now, Joker.

Joker: I'm going to take over the world! How do you like 'dem apples!

Frazod 08-02-2006 04:31 PM

Yuck. What the hell, did everybody else on the list die? :shake:

Nope, Matt Damon has decided to play young "Captain Kirk" in the next Star Trek flick.

When are they going to stop making those things?

As long as they don't get Affleck to play Spock, that doesn't seem all that bad.

And as long as we get Star Trek that isn't all touchy-feely-save-the-whales lame, I've got no problem with it. Zero-gee splattered Klingon blood and shit blowing up in space works for me.

oaklandhater 08-02-2006 04:58 PM

You have to take the good with the Bad.

Bad Heath Ledger is the Joker

Good the next Batman movie is called The Dark Knight

From what I hear Josh hartnett is one of the top ppl trying for Spock.

I dont know man. Theres a couple people I think would kick ass at it. One being Johnny Depp and the other being William DeFoe, but he was already a villian in a Superhero movie. But JN did set the standard for the part.

Star Trek NEEDS to be redone. About 8 out of 10 of them sucked.

Brock 08-02-2006 05:34 PM

PS, Jason Lee should have been the Joker.

OldTownChief 08-02-2006 05:44 PM

That really sucks. I love the Batman movies but I couldn't stand Heath Ledger even before he took it up the ass.

With JJ Abrahms at the helm, I expect BIG things from this trek.

stevieray 08-02-2006 05:55 PM

I don't know which is worse, the rinse and repeat recycled crap they've been putting out for years, or the morans who pay for it.

I guess that's what you get when looks are more important than the story.

A bit off topic, but...

Just took my boys to see "Monster House". Damned good movie. I think I enjoyed it as much as they did. There were quite a few scares. Just about perfect for my 8 and 9 year old. It might be a little much for younger children, though.

It's rated PG, not G... and they earned it.

Star Trek TMP: Sucked. Nice visuals. Horrid acting.
Star Trek II: Awesome. Great battle scenes. Ricardo rocked as Khan. Kirstie rocked as Saavik.
Star Trek III: Some good moments, but overall... kinda sucked. New Saavik definitely does NOT rock. Kirk's kid is a puss.
Star Trek IV: Lame premise, but also had it's moments.
Star Trek V: Ghastly.
Star Trek VI: Very good. Great battle scenes. Funky-colored floating blood.
Star Trek Generations: Had its moments. Wasn't bad overall. Best of the odd numbers.
Star Trek First Contact: Best of the bunch, barely beating out II. Data lubes up the Borg queen.
Star Trek Insurrection: Wretched. I actually hated this worse than V.
Star Trek Nemesis: Basically Star Trek II redeux, with Romulans instead of genetic freaks. Was okay, sort of.

Gravedigger 08-02-2006 09:05 PM

I wanted Willem Dafoe to play joker just imo.

Wow. You uber geek.

Personally, I liked Nemesis the best.

"Now go." My wife still gets all gooey when I say that.

Of the TNG movies. it's that or First Contact. II for old school, no doubt.

Yeah, when it comes to Star Trek, I'm about as geeked out as you can get without going to conventions.

Nemesis was okay, but you have to admit, the parallels between it and II come early and often - personal vendetta against the captain, sacrifice of the Spock-type character, but a cheesy way back to life for him just in case there's enough interest for a sequel.

And the dunebuggies? C'mon, that was just reeruned. I don't need Tango & Cash moments in my Star Trek. :grr:

He'd be 70 years old by the time they start filming.

That's kind of what I liked about it. Repetition in Star Trek is the equivalent of the Chiefs and 13-3; you know it's going to happen, you know it's going to eventually suck, but you watch anyway.

Although the dune buggies did suck.

Doesn't stop Connery or Eastwood. Harrison Ford isn't much younger than that, and he's doing another Indiana Jones movie. Same with Stallone doing a new Rocky and a new Rambo.

70 as a multi-millionaire with personal trainers and the best of everything is a bit different than 70 for the rest of us.

Good analogy. ROFL

Jenson71 08-02-2006 09:31 PM

Well, as interesting as that would be, I guess they're going for a Joker not quite as wild and crazy as Jack. He's had his turn, and he nailed it.

I was just thinking, how Jack, would be too old, Ledger (compared to Bale) seems too young. They'll need good makeup. I guess that goes without saying when it comes to Joker though.

Eleazar 08-02-2006 09:38 PM

as long as they don't install the batnipples this time...

Swanman 08-02-2006 09:40 PM

After Batman Begins, I have faith that they won't completely screw it up, given that Christopher Nolan is back directing the sequel and I assume the cast overall will be loaded again. As long as Gary Oldman is in the movie, I'll be happy.

KcMizzou 08-02-2006 09:42 PM

I guess I'm in the minority, but I think Ledger is a good choice. He's a really good actor, IMO. I think he can pull it off.

My two favorite actors are Oldman and Morgan Freeman. If you have both of them in the same movie, it would take a lot of effort for it to suck.

He's a good actor, but to say he usually plays brooding roles would be an understatement. I think they're just trying to avoid any possible Nicholson comparisons.

From what I've heard - he plays a completely different type of character in "Lords of Dogtown" (I personally haven't seen - in the Netflix cue - it yet but have been told it's good) and is great.

I was really impressed with him in "Brokeback" - even if I thought the movie itself was kinda lame.

So - I'm really curious to see how he does. I'm kinda glad that they went for the WTF casting rather than an obvious choice.

Ebolapox 07-22-2008 06:35 PM

Nicholson was that bad. All of the villians in the first run of Batman movies would of been more convincing and entertaining if they were played by sock puppets. The only one worse than Nicholson was Ahnold. If you envision the Joker as some gay little twink, then yeah, Nicholson nailed it.
