Any chance the Royals hire Girardi?
I think he would be a good fit in KC. He did a good job of developing the young Marlins.
Joe Giradi
Likely going to back to Cubs where he was catcher. |
He's going to the Cubs. That has to be the worst kept secret ever. Plus he didn't get along with management anyway, Dayton's not going to hire someone who will clash with him.
Ugh. Oh well, it sounded like a good idea.
At this point all that could keep Bell from being the manager next year is his health IMO.
The Royals did make a managerial move today though. Frank White's not returning to coach AA Wichita in 2007. He's going to be moved to a player development position.

Showalter fired today too.
Any interest there? |

The rumor/speculation was that Dayton was eyeing Fredi Gonzalez, the Braves' 3rd base coach. But he got hired by the Marlins.
I wouldn't be so sure about Girardi to Chicago. Apparently the Cubs don't like Girardi's power hungriness and have yet to contact him.
That would be the only thing that could ruin it I think. Nobody has really said what it is that Girardi has been so power hungry about. Girardi did a good job but it's amazing how many people rave about him and not the job the Marlins' GM did with all of those trades to bring those young players in.
I think he'll end up in Chicago, but stranger things have happened. Funny, I was looking at places a few weeks back in Chicago and they guy actually told me that Dusty Baker's place would be available starting in mid Nov. which was before any announcement. Not that it wasn't already known pretty much. The place was decent but definately not worth what they were wanting.
I grew up a Royals fan and Cubs fan, in part b/c of the shared hatred for the Cards and when I was little my best friend had a way older brother that took us to opening day at Wrigley. Its been great to be a fan of 2 of the sorriest teams |
I believe Dayton has said numberous of times that he planning to keep Bell.
From what I saw, Girardi wasn't a very good X's and O's manager.
Girardi still available?
Keep Buddy to ride out another horrible year until the prospects get here in 08.
I think he is.. Girardi has a bit of a black mark on him and looks like the Marlins front office did their best to air his dirty laundry b/c the guy seemed to do pretty well, coaching, at least.
Must be a Shanny-sized prick of a guy |
I'd love to see it--now that Chicago, apparently, isn't interested....but knowing the Royals, there's no way.
I heard Washington is going after Girardi.
Well, with Bell's health in doubt we should maybe start being proactive... not to be a dick but really his health is 1st and work stress is not needed
I know that the players get along with Buddy Bell and Dayton Moore wants to maitain stability, but I wouldn't mind us moving in a different direction. Clearly, this team needs a new mentality, one that doesn't expect to lose every year, and sometimes, changing the manager is a good start to accomplishing that.
<---- going to drink the Dayton Moore kool-aid simply based on the progress of the team and his moves he made as the season went on.
As long as he keeps the philosophy that pitching wins, period. You can bank Detroit as winning it all b/c they groomed the arms and then went and got some offense... It amazes me how different playoff baseball is vs reg season... too bad they can't make it more like playoff baseball. And, while I'm wishing can I have Beltran back.... I have a man crush on his bionic ass... too bad we never could find out what a post season badass he was while he was w/ us! |
