CupidStunt 10-07-2006 05:41 PM

One of the biggest busts in professional sports history.

By far the biggest payroll in the sport for that?

BigRock 10-07-2006 05:43 PM

Straight up trade: A-Rod for Berroa. Come on, Dayton!

hypersensitiveZO6 10-07-2006 06:50 PM

Eleazar 10-07-2006 09:44 PM

Not really sure how the Yankees and that lineup could go out so fast, but damned if I don't like to see it.

What a good day in sports! :toast:

UteChief 10-07-2006 09:46 PM

For me the baseball season hasn't started until the Yankees are out of it.

ARod needs to find a better team.

milkman 10-07-2006 10:04 PM

Since the New York Millionaires club lost, do they cancel the rest of the post season?

KCinNY 10-07-2006 10:05 PM

Nice .071 postseason batting average for A-Rod, to go along with his throwing error today.

Nothing quite as wonderful as watching the Yankees and their obnoxious fans implode with humiliation.

Actually, let me edit that remark.....Philly sports fans are beyond obnoxious (they're more like depraved) and I hate the freaking Mets.

When I went to Game 1 of the ALCS last year, there was a Yankmee fan sitting down the row from us. Of course, he got tickets for the game in Chicago because HE WAS 100% CERTAIN that New York would beat Anaheim and advance to play the White Sox. We kept asking him why the Yankmees' uniforms had red in them. He was not amused. :D

I thought people were touting the 2K6 Yankmees as the best Yankee's team of all time? I still don't think the throwing a ton of money at a bunch of stars to build a club, for the Yanks, will change. I almost wish they were dominating with that philosophy so some type of hard salary cap would be initiated.

But as far as the smaller market AL clubs go, they continue to make a good showing in the post season, and I'm glad to see the Tigers turned their piss poor franchise around in three years...I guess there is hope.

Good pitching still beats good hitting. That's always what they say, and that was proven again, even against the supposed "best lineup of all time". The Tigers pitching was awesome.

The Yankees teams back in the 90's that actually won had great pitching. Problem is, I do think baseball has leveled off enough that you don't see many big time pitchers hitting the market for them to scoop up. Last year AJ Burnett maybe the biggest name, and he's not that great. This year it'll probably be Zito, who is good, but he walks a ton of guys and probably isn't the guy he was 5 years ago. The Yankees have to make smarter pitching decisions than guys like Jaret Wright and Carl Pavano.

ESPN just reported that the New York Daily News is saying Joe Torre could be fired.

The Tigers aren't really a small market team, they turned it around by signing some guys. Just think about how much money they paid Rodriguez and Ordonez....you see the Royals doing something like that cause I don't.

Slimebrenner will certainly need a head on a pike after today. Might as well be Torre's.

tk13 10-07-2006 11:37 PM

Check that, now they're reporting that Torre will be fired, and replaced by Lou Pinella.

They did make some moves... but for a big key, don't overlook the fact they developed not one, but two pitchers who can throw 100 mph with vicious breaking pitches. There aren't really any other teams that have one guy like that. They have two. Not to mention several other good arms like Bonderman, Robertson, Rodney, etc. If the Royals did that their chances would be about 875 times better. Verlander and especially Zumaya are total freaks, and give them an advantage over other teams that nobody can match.

Mecca 10-07-2006 11:45 PM

That's why Verlander was a top 5 pick.

CHIEF4EVER 10-08-2006 02:04 AM

Only one thing pleases me more than the Yankoffs losing....and that is the Chiefs or Royals winning. 4 and out..........BWAAAAAAAAHAHAHAHAAAAAA!!!!!!!!!

Wow, what a joke....Torre knows how to handle that clubhouse and all that shit. Yankees players should look at each other, well besides Jeter, who is probably the only Yankee i like.

I agree. Jeter is clutch and always has been. Consistently performs at the highest level.

On the topic of obnoxious Yankee fans, I have a good story.

My son and I were flying back to Charlotte from NEPA. We had flown up there for my sister's graduation. While standing in the security line, I couldn't help but notice the head of security staring at me. As I approached to hand him my ticket, he announced to everyone that he was going to have a little fun. I had my Boston Red Sox hat on and as it turns out, he was a Yankees fan. Right in fron of my 8 year old son, he tells me (jokingly) that I have to have a F-in body cavity search and that he's personally going to do it. I realized that he was kidding but asked why. He said it was because I had an F-in Red Sox hat on. Now I don't mind talking smack with the enemy but not with language lke that around children. I told him his language was unacceptable around my child but I guess I should expect it from a yankmee fan. :)

Dont generalize all Yankee fans acting like that idiot/assclown who did that to you..That guy sounds like an ahole regardless of who he roots for..and it's idiot's just like that guy..that gives Yankee fans a bad name..

I would have been furious had that happened to me..and would have given him a tongue lashing right back at him

My FIL is from New York. Well, he's actually from Syracuse, New York, but apparently just sneaking that "New York" thing in anywhee is enough for him to proclaim Yankee fandom and act like he's the King of fucking England because of it. Says "Missouri" "Kansas City" and "St. Louis" like they're things he scrapes off the bottom of his shoe. If/when I ask him about the Yankmees this year, he'll just stick his nose up in the air and mention the 27 world series wins; won mostly, of course, by people who have been dead for decades. But there's no getting through that I'm-from-New-York-and-I'm-better-than-you shield. Even though a true New Yorker would consider him to be every bit as much of a hick as me because he is from (add condescention here) Upstate.
