I ****ing hate eBay snipers!

Just bitching... I ****ing hate snipers on eBay... I'm sitting here babysitting a lens and some dickhead mother****er comes in with 5 seconds left and snipes it. Never put in any other bids for 8 ****ing days and gets the lens I had a bid down on for a week! ****!

Fire Me Boy! 10-08-2006 10:15 AM

I was a member of another online auction site (before eBay came around) that I liked their policies... it was like a true auction... if a bid was made within the last five minutes, the auction reset for another five minutes. As long as bids were being recorded within five-minute increments the auction was live.

Hammock Parties 10-08-2006 10:16 AM

You snooze, you lose.

Hootie 10-08-2006 10:19 AM

It's the smartest way to eBay. Maybe you should learn how to be good at the internet?

Bugeater 10-08-2006 10:20 AM

Damn you eBay!

JBucc 10-08-2006 10:22 AM

HAHA it was me!

Simplex3 10-08-2006 10:22 AM

I don't understand, you place a proxy bid for the most you're willing to spend and it's over. Why the drama of upping your bid?

gblowfish 10-08-2006 10:26 AM

I haven't seen a truly excellent deal on E-Bay for a few years now. Just like anything else that starts out being a real bargain, it's been ruined by overpopulation.

You damn kids...get off my lawn!!!!!

Exactly what I was thinking and the way I bid as well when I'm trying to buy something on Ebay. On the other hand, if I am bidding on sometihng, I WILL come in at the last second and snipe it.

Eleazar 10-08-2006 10:55 AM

That's the only way to bid. You're a reerun if you bid 3 days in advance, you're just costing yourself money.

headsnap 10-08-2006 10:56 AM

sniping is the only way to ebay... :)

Mr. Laz 10-08-2006 10:58 AM

no reason to even bid on an item until the last hour.

all you're doing is driving up the final price push.

Fire Me Boy! 10-08-2006 11:04 AM

There were other bidders involved days ago... I went ahead and threw my hat in the ring.

Just because it's legal to do doesnt' make it right. As for my "proxy bid" yeah... you always put in your "max bid", but how many of us would bid $5 more if you knew it would be yours? If you were willing to pay $400 for something and someone came it last second and beat you with $405, would you go to $406? It's the point of the matter... I was winning the bid (and I mentioned FIRST THING in the thread header that I was just bitching, no drama here, k?) and some dickweed comes in with 5 seconds left and outbids me... I just hate it, that's all. I don't think snipers should be allowed. Furthermore, I gave a VERY viable solution, that not only protects the interests of the bidders, but ALSO makes more money for both ebay (who takes a commission of the sale price) and the seller (who profits from the sale).

As I said post #1, words 1 and 2.... just bitching.

Reaper16 10-08-2006 11:05 AM

There are effing programs these bid snipping scourges use to better destroy your dreams at the speed of second. I hate them all.

L.A. Chieffan 10-08-2006 11:07 AM

i buy baseball cards on ebay, and there is this other guy that buys the same type of cards that I do. Lets just say that over the years he has sniped a few cards that I REALLY wanted, so now when I see a card hes bidding on (even if I dont want the card, ESPECIALLY if i dont want the card) Ill jump in within the last two minutes and raise the bid just to make his reserve bid go all the way up to the max before i pull out and let him win.

Yup

I am normally the guy that comes in the last 5 seconds and tries to snipe stuff. If you got your reserve up to an acceptable level of what you are willing to pay then you got nothing to bitch about. FMB is just mad cause someone out bid him on the CHEAP to get an item in the last few seconds. I've bought shit I really didn't want before because some Schlechter Coyote (spelling?) thought he would sneak out with low azz bid.

Sorry FMB I don't feel remotely sorry for your tight penny pinching azz.

the Talking Can 10-08-2006 11:28 AM

why would you place a bet before the last 10 seconds?

if you really wanted it you should have bid more...simple solution...you have no right to the item just becuase you bid differently...

been there, it does suck but that's life....

Rain Man 10-08-2006 11:29 AM

Why do they publicize a final deadline anyway? It seems like the system would work better if people had to bid on what they wanted without knowing if there five seconds left or five days. Or possibly just keep the bid going as long as there's been a new bid in the past 24 hours.

No, it wasn't being "cheap" -- that particular lens normally goes for right about what it did... I'm pissed because I don't like snipers. I don't think it's right. I think there should be provisions, like I suggested in post 2. I remember a time on eBay (and I'm only 28, so not "old" by any stretch) when people didn't snipe. It was considered bad form.

Meh, that's how the system works. Catching a good deal at the last second is what makes it fun.

I don't remember this long forgotten code of Ebay honor.

I think it was Herzig that once posted the URL of a sniping company if someone wants to "cheat".

PastorMikH 10-08-2006 12:29 PM

Thats the only way to bid. I know it stinks when it happens to you, but as a buyer, why bid early and run up the price you'll end up paying? If I outbid someone, they get an email and start bidding against me. We both go back and forth entering bids until the price is much higher. If I wait, then the price either I or the other person pays (if I don't bid enough) pays is less.

Also, I have an amount I can afford. If I bid in the final seconds and don't get it, I don't have time to sit there and think about it and talk myself into bidding more than I can afford to pay.

And 5 seconds is amature. I usually wait until there are 2-3 seconds left.:)

PastorMikH 10-08-2006 12:31 PM

What I hate is when a sellor ends the auction early and doesn't give me a chance to snipe it.

That's actually too late IMO.

You don't want to wait until the last second and then find out your bid gets ****ed via proxy.

wutamess 10-08-2006 12:40 PM

What I do is... If you want to max out at like $65 for an itme I'd go 65.51 or 66.01.

That .51 or $1.01 has helped me a lot in the past.

Most people bid in increments of $1 or $.10.
That $.01 is sometimes a lifesaver.

That's why I always end my max bid with an extra $0.02.

Next bid, I'm going $0.09. I would have escalted to $0.08, but that leaves the high ground for someone else to grab.

actually any random cent works, it's really .62 for me.

BigVE 10-08-2006 01:33 PM

I get more irritated by the idiots who keep bidding the items up days before the auction ends. A snipe here or there doesnt really bother me.

No kidding! You aren't going to get it anyway so quit running the price up on me.

Rain Man 10-08-2006 01:55 PM

I hear that ebay may soon be obsolete anyway. Some sellers are coming up with an entirely new system of actually placing the items physically in a city so that people can come and see them in person. They then pay a fixed "Buy It Now" price that eliminates sniping. I think this may be the wave of the future.

Best sniper site.

Not wise to bid before the last 5 secs.
