Sirius or XM?
I'm asking for sat. radio for xmas, I believe my wife is going to get me one. So what is the best, I'm leaning towards the sirius. Seems like it has more to offer than XM. I would also like ideas on models, portability and stuff like that. I would like to be able to take it in work, house other cars stuff like that. Thanks for your help guys. It is appreciated!

I have Sirius and love it. Can't beat the NFL radio channel and Stern. Their programming is about the same (XM and Sirius) for music. I find that XM has better equipment than Sirius if you want a unit the is more portable, though Sirius just released the Stilito(sp) that is 100% portable and will connect to a wirless network when one is in range to keep your live music streaming. It is pretty pricey though.

I have xm, and regret getting sat. radio in the first place--signal goes in/out in springfield, not to mention long trips--
it's only 13 bucks a month, but I listen more to local radio than sat. radio due to signal issues-- and when they say 'commercial free radio' they're full of sh*t |
Well if ya want NFL, you need to go Sirius. I love mine and don't have any problrms with it. Unfortunately, can't speak to XM as I don't have it.
|
Sirius radios seem to be more expensive (equipment wise), and both have the same monthly fee ($12/m). XM has some commercials, Sirius has 0, Sirius has NFL, XM has MLB.
H5N1: did you have yours professionaly installed? How do you use it..do you use the tape? Also you might want to think about trying a new radio..I've had 3 different XM's and 2 work fine, one sucked |
Howard Stern and the NFL channel, its not a hard choice.

I have Siruis, and I love it. I like all different kinds of music, I don't even have enough presets for all the stations that I like. I had never listened to Howard Stern before he was on Sirius, and I'm addicted now. Plus it's nice to know that I'll never miss a Chiefs game, no matter where I am.
I lose service for 2 or 3 seconds when i go under some bridges (?) but I've never had any other service issues, no matter what the weather is. I drive to Bolivar, MO about once a week for work and haven't ever lost service on the way. |

and yeah--it's either the radio or the 'antenna'--which has been replaced so many times it boggles the mind |
Your choice depends on what you want. Music-wise, both services are very similar and offer lots of good stuff. People have been saying XM channels have commercials, but I've never heard a commercial on the music stations I listen to (hard rock, alternative and heavy metal channels). For talk radio, XM has Opie and Anthony and Sirius has Stern as their big-name shows. Other talk stations are probably very similar (national talk radio shows). For sports, XM has MLB, NHL and contracts with the Big Ten/PAC 10 and maybe a few other conferences. Sirius has NFL and NBA and exclusive contracts with a few big-name college programs. Since I'm always home to watch NFL and NBA games, I prefer having MLB as I can listen to games while at work (XM carries every game). Equipment-wise, they're pretty similar at this point. They both have portable units now that are very handy.
As you can probably tell, I'm an XM subscriber and love it, but you'd probably be happy with either service. |

I like this radio personally. It's small, looks nice, and easy to take to and from my car into work.

I live in springfield--it's funny, other people who I know who have xm say they never have ANY issues with their xm--which is beyond annoying |
thanks for the input

thats it folks case closed ive had both and sirius is much better for the $ |
Bob Dole has XM at home as part of DirecTV and Sirius in the new Mazda. When Bob Dole was travelling at Thanksgiving, having the NFL channel and the ability to listen to the college and NFL games on Sirius was worth the price of the year's subscription. Bob Dole listens to one station on XM, and that's it...

SIRIUS SIRIUS SIRIUS!!!!
I have 3 Sportsters in my vehicles and work truck. Howard Stern, NFL, no commercials, and one of the best things about the Sportster receiver is that it has game alerts. Whenever your favorite college or pro football, basketball, or hockey team is playing, it alerts you. Push one button, and you are off to the game. All Chiefs games has the option of Chiefs announcers or the other team announcers. First receiver is $13, and the second receiver is $6/month! Give it a try. If you are like me, regular radio will be boring and you will wonder why you didnt do it sooner!! Been a subscriber for almost 4 years!! Love it! :) |
Sirius.
Without a doubt. I've had it for 3 years and can't imagine driving without it. Speaking of Sirius, I have 2 extra portable Stiletto units to sell. If anyone is interested, I thought I'd throw this up on here first. I'd take 300 shipped for each. I have 2 to sell. They are retailing anywhere from 330-350 in stores right now (w/o tax) and they are tough to get. PM me if you're interested. They are brand new, in box, never opened. |
Sirius without a doubt.

I just got a Sirius subscription for my car. It was a steal of a deal at Radio Shack. A Starmate Replay for $59.99 with a $60.00 rebate. So far, I've really enjoyed the service. The music choices are fantastic. I love the news channels and it's nice to have an option to listen to liberal talk for once.
Best part, I can get Sirius on my cell phone. That is soooo kewl. I've tried XM online before and I had a hard time choosing between the two but in the end I thought Sirius had more to offer in the areas where I have interest. Mainly Classic Rock, classical, news, talk. |
Sirius........No brainer.

Thanks for the advice
Picked it up last weekend in kc and put it in today. Someone recommended to me that you install by following the instructions, however I just threw the antennae on my dash and it works great. How did all you guys mount yours? Have any of you guys bought the antennae divider so you don't have to run that wire? I just laid that on the dash also and it seems to work fine but I noticed two things at loud volumne you get a little background static and it's doesn't play as loud as the radio....anyone else notice this?
|
the static happened when i first got it 2
an fm mod will clear everything up 4 u and get u a stronger signal! |
