Wasn't live. They showed the outtakes at the end of the last HBO Inside the NFL. Nick and Len were on BTW. Anniversary show.

He's upset because he is almost the spitting image of David Hasselhoff.

This is why they love Dan Marino so much in Germany.

It seems like I remember someone talking about the Chiefs working out Marino at one time. And, the way the story went, Marino yelled at the other players a lot.

Slightly off topic, but I don't really pay attention to who the "analysts" are on the various shows now, so I don't know if Marino and Boomer Esiason are still together or not. I like the fact that Marino hates Boomer and Boomer needles Marino about the whole Super Bowl thing.

Anyway, last week after the Colts got killed, Boomer was on the air, and he said, "The way things are going, I think Peyton Manning will go down in history as the greatest quarterback to never win a Super Bowl." When he said that, the camera was close in on his face, and I was yelling at the TV, "Show Marino! Show Marino!" I really enjoy his reaction to statements like that.

I really hope this anecdote doesn't end with "...and so we drafted Blackledge instead."

You know, it was something like that, Mr. Rain Man.

It is, admittedly, a vague and somewhat disturbing memory. But, I remember hearing that somewhere.

I found a site that talks about it. The year was 1983.

Here's more. La BM is a reference to John Mackovic.

Before the draft, La BM reportedly worked out Marino at Arrowhead Stadium. Marino was zipping spirals downfield in a simulated game and showed some audible displeasure at a Chiefs receiver when he dropped a pass. Goodness, thought La BM, we can't have that! So with the 7th overall pick in the draft, La BM passed up on the over competitive Marino and Jim Kelly and instead picked Penn State's do gooder Todd Blacklidge.

I think he referred to Peyton Manning as "The Modern Day Marino".

Yeah, no kidding. I think some of the people here would freak out if they ever saw me watching a Bronco game.

I used to get really angry about stuff that had to do with football. There's a hole in the bottom of my door where my foot went through, and a hole in the top of my closet door where my fist went through, and those were just because I lost a game of Madden. I've mellowed out a lot since then. Also moving into a dorm with concrete walls and solid wood doors helps with the whole punching and kicking them thing.

I think Marino's an asshat, but that clip's no big deal. From watching it, I'd be willing to bet he'd fucked up that line several times and was just frustrated over it. Shit, I wigged out worse than that last night over my office's piece of shit copier jamming.

I've calmed down to the point where I just verbally abuse players, coches, refs, announcers, fans, the people in the commercials during breaks and household pets.
