Missouri/Illinois game thread (since I didn't see one...)

Since I didn't see a thread. Figured this game deserves one since it is usually the first big game of our season.

Currently IU is on a bit of a run, but its not quite halfway through the first half.

PinkFloyd 12-19-2006 08:39 PM

Did you see that fricking block that MU did right at the start of the game ??? He had to have went half way up the backboard to slap it back off of it...

This MU team is sooooooooooooooooo far ahead of where it was at this time last year... Sure they haven't played any big games yet --- but they are looking good and hustling their butts off !!!

MU up now 25-24...

KcMizzou 12-19-2006 08:41 PM

This is the first game I've been able to sit down and watch.... I LOVE this style of play.

Big fan of Anderson so far.

PinkFloyd 12-19-2006 08:46 PM

One thing hasn't changed since last year... They still can't hit their freethrows...

Reerun_KC 12-19-2006 08:48 PM

Well when the beakers are over, I will switch to the MU/IU game and see what this 40 minutes of Hades is all about?

Do they ever? I can't remember an MU team that shot FTs well. I'm sure there are stats that prove me wrong, but it always seems FTs kill us.

siberian khatru 12-19-2006 08:50 PM

8-0 MU run.

siberian khatru 12-19-2006 08:52 PM

11-0 MU run.

Sully 12-19-2006 08:52 PM

I LOVE my 2006-07 Mizzou Tigers. I don't care how many games they win, but I love the style of play. It is just damn fun to watch. Much more than that stand still offense that Quin used, ruining some great talent.

Amen... They dont look like they have much "quit" in 'em.

tk13 12-19-2006 08:57 PM

Yeah, from my unbiased perspective, Quin was a good recruiter but watching you guys play offense always wanted to make me throw a brick through the TV screen. Dribble, dribble, dribble, Kareem Rush chucks up a 23 foot fadeaway. Mike Anderson is probably a way better in-game coach. You'll still chuck up a lot of 3's but at least you'll look halfway organized out there.

Man !!! Anderson has this team playing 100% better than they did last year at any time !!!

I love it... I'm with you on --- I don't care how many games they win --- cause if they do lose --- it sure the hell wasn't because they didn't hustle...

Quin = zero D intensity as well.

I'm not real sure Quin even coached D, other than to just tell them to stand in front of the other guy. Arthur Johnson was a hell of a shot blocker, but I suspect that was more talent than coaching.

siberian khatru 12-19-2006 09:00 PM

That's, what, 5 straight bad offensive possessions for MU?

Yeah, I guess you will be much more intense on the defensive end too. The only bad thing about it is you'll probably be more prone to big comebacks, but then you'll be more likely to make big comebacks too... kinda like the Phoenix Suns. But it is fun to watch. I have zero rooting interest in Mizzou but watching you guys always made me want to go Hamas Jenkins on a coffee table.

siberian khatru 12-19-2006 09:01 PM

*sigh* Those cheerleaders were probably just being born when I was at MU.

Imagine how MU fans felt.

Damn, if we hadn't seen our offense evaporate the last 3-4 minutes of the half, we might be up 7+ points.

PinkFloyd 12-19-2006 09:06 PM

I really figured that the Tigers would be lucky to win maybe 10 games this year... That was until I saw the style of game they play... I wouldn't be surprised to see them maybe win 18-20...

KcMizzou 12-19-2006 09:07 PM

I'll be honest... I expected this to be a pretty brutal season. Any success is just gravy, and so far so good.

I loved seeing how quickly Mizzou got Illinios frustrated... you could see it in their faces and body language. Seems the game plan is just to pester the shit out of the other guy until he screws up. :D

I'd read about it plenty, but it's more fun to watch.

Yeah.. what he said.

If we make the tourney this season, it's a big success for Anderson, IMO.

We're halfway there a third of the way through the season.

Well, you saw Arkansas run it in the 80s and 90s (and against MU a few times). Albeit, with top-notch talent.

PinkFloyd 12-19-2006 09:12 PM

What makes me so upset is that they are averaging not even 6,000 fans at home... Maybe they miss Quinn... I was so glad to see them get rid of Quinn... He could recruit -- just not coach...

True. I just meant this is the first time I'd seen MU run it, since this is the first game I've been able to watch and give 100% attention to.

I've heard several games on the radio at work... but obviously it's not nearly the same.

Hell, I need to make a road trip to Columbia some time. I've still never seen a college BB game in person.

KcMizzou 12-19-2006 09:15 PM

I kinda thought we were devoid of talent this season, coming in.

Gotcha. I've only seen the 2nd half of the Arkansas game. So everything I've seen so far this year has been very impressive. Hope we don't fall apart in the 2nd half tonight like we did vs. Purdue.

It's awesome... Watching college sports in person is so much more exciting than watching pro sports in person...

Me too. Hannah is the best PG they've had in awhile. Hell, I think even Horton is playing better. Clearly, he's simply better coached.

I was going to mention that earlier... He looks and acts alot different this year than last... I was wanting to choke him last year most of the time...

PinkFloyd 12-19-2006 09:23 PM

It's getting ugly... I have faith though...

Reerun_KC 12-19-2006 09:26 PM

I miss Quin!!!!

siberian khatru 12-19-2006 09:27 PM

Lyons is another guy who looks improved.

PinkFloyd 12-19-2006 09:30 PM

This team never quits... I'm I'm I'm I'm speechless... They would be down by 15-20 right now to this team if Quinn was around...

siberian khatru 12-19-2006 09:32 PM

Matt Lawrence with the DAGGER ...

... and a charge on Ill.!

PinkFloyd 12-19-2006 09:33 PM

Lawerence has 40 3-pointers already this year !!!!!!

He's Mr. Automatic...

Good timeout there... Everyone is getting tired...

siberian khatru 12-19-2006 09:46 PM

Hit your FTs, MU

siberian khatru 12-19-2006 09:47 PM

fuck

siberian khatru 12-19-2006 09:49 PM

Just not doing enough on offense. Not only does that mean no points, it deprives us an opportunity to use the press.

PinkFloyd 12-19-2006 09:49 PM

It looks to me like they are getting alittle nervous... Their playing "catch up" ball right now... Not being to patient on offense...

siberian khatru 12-19-2006 09:51 PM

Man, really sinking now on both ends.

BWillie 12-19-2006 09:52 PM

You know, this is one game I'm actually rooting for Missouri right now. My hatred for Bruce Weber runs so deep, deeper than Missouri and that is really saying something. After he held that funeral for Bill Self, and all of the other classless things he's said since then, I hope they pummell the shit outta the Illini.

Can't buy a loose ball. Or guard the perimeter.

PinkFloyd 12-19-2006 09:55 PM

We can't rebound now...

siberian khatru 12-19-2006 09:56 PM

Goddammit defend that 3! And block out! ****!

siberian khatru 12-19-2006 09:58 PM

We be in trouble.

Not used to seeing offensive rebounds. I'm used to watching us throw up a three and running down the court before it hits the rim.

Good fricking lord !!!!!!!!!! They need to shoot 1,000 freethrows a day !!!

siberian khatru 12-19-2006 10:11 PM

There is NO ****ING EXCUSE for shooting under 75%. Practice, practice, practice. That's all it takes.

siberian khatru 12-19-2006 10:12 PM

Great, another chance to miss FTs.

PastorMikH 12-19-2006 10:12 PM

Even if we can't shoot FTs, 40 seconds is a lot of time to get 5-6 points.
