The mother of all Blizzards

Holy cow maud...I have been here (Colorado) for almost 20 years and never seen this much snow

DENVER (AP) - Governor Bill Owens is declaring a disaster emergency as a winter-like storm bears down on the eastern half of Colorado, saying he wants to free up additional resources to help cope with the weather.

The governor also opened the Emergency Operations Center and the Colorado National Guard Joint Operations Center, which will be manned 24 hours a day.

Owens is also activating the National Guard and putting guard members on standby to assist stranded motorists, but says he hopes it won't be necessary to endanger their lives as well.

The state stationed emergency vehicles, Humvees, snow cats and emergency response teams across the state before the storm hit.

Owens says a state trooper told him that Humvees are the only way to reach stranded motorists.

It would be a damn shame if this had a negative affect on Denver's play the remainder of the season.

Do it in a bronco fan's front yard.

We had a pretty good one here a couple of weeks ago. 15" of snow. Closed the airport and 3 turnpikes.

(Okay, no AK-47.)

Wow, that was a tough drive home, and my commute is only two miles. It didn't seem that bad downtown, but it's already halfway up my shins at home, and the drifts are deeper. I had about 18" piled up against my garage door, so I had to shovel it just to get the car in.

Not if it takes place before the Winter Solstice, it isn't. Technically, anyway.

Interesting point though. Were we under a "Winter-like Storm Watch"?

It's piling up pretty good out here in Littleton. This could have been catastrophic, but I had the foresight to hit the liquor store last night. I'm well stocked on beer, wine, and scotch. I think we have food in the pantry, but I was just focusing on the essentials.

Whereabouts in Littleton? I didn't realize that there are so many CP'ers in Denver. We should form a clique.

I watched the non-televised games with Kevin fairly regularly last season down at the ESPN zone, but this year I discovered a good sports bar closer to home that shows the games. If you live out this way have you ever been to the Mirage? Great food and we can usually talk them into putting the Chiefs games on one of the bigger screens.
