Career Advice

So I'm considering another career change.

What could a former Marine/network engineer/remodeler/charity president/message board guy do with his life? I can do sales and I like helping people.

I want to make $250k but I'd consider opportunities starting at $75k. Heh.

Any serious ideas?

OnTheWarpath15 12-22-2006 06:16 PM

This might get uglier than Hyperlite's thread about GC's avy.....

HonestChieffan 12-22-2006 06:17 PM

If you want to make 250K, dont take the 75k job. Upper management will screw you before you get the big bucks.

Id suggest you sue Rosie O'donnel. Something she has said or done has to have impacted you very personally and in a negative manner. Call Donald and suggest a class action suit.

There is good money pitching for the Royals and you dont have to be that good. I hear they pay roughly 1 million per winning game based on past results.

What a great idea for a thread.

How an architect? I always wanted to pretend to be an architect. Or General Manager of the New York Yankees?

HonestChieffan 12-22-2006 06:31 PM

I just retired so its hard for me to be unemotional.

I miss the corporate world so much.

Well, I'm willing to make some concessions in light of 2 things:
1. I'd likely be changing fields or industries.
2. My last job paid $500 per year.

HonestChieffan 12-22-2006 06:35 PM

OK now we are getting somewhere...

We need to zero in on something between 500/year and 250K, so we can safely eliminate anything paying under $500/year.

Damn..Im becoming a consultant. I need a lawyer and a contract. Wait, my kids a lawyer.

It's very hard to make any money remodeling without working yourself into an early grave. Looking at some of these guys who are 50 and look 70 scares me. But yes, I've been screwed once too many times. That is a strong consideration.

HonestChieffan 12-22-2006 06:54 PM

I made good money in the 70s raising hogs. But you need to have some hogs.

Call Bob @ Port Aransas ( TX ) Fishing Tours. Last I heard he was needing a guy to run the business. You help the old retired folks on there fishing tours , pays 150k's per year and you get a title with your name........

I'm not sure I want to continue in the construction field even if I experience more success. Surely there's something for which I'm more naturally suited.

PastorMikH 12-22-2006 07:30 PM

You should have hired out to Kevin for his remodel job. You could have made a fortune off of him with all the work he's done.

Hoover 12-22-2006 08:19 PM

Here is a Christmas Gift from Hoover

Talk to Kyle and buy back part of the Planet. Then you need to find investors and buy/build a bar near the stadium, and Call it Chiefs Planet. It could be like an internet bar. You could then charge an extra penny on all purchases which would go towards the website. You’re a great host, and it would be a blast.

If you can't make the Chiefs Planet Bar a go, then I'll give you my dream bar plan. Buy an old Post Office that was built in the great depression, and put in a restaurant/bar and call in Claven's, you could make the coolers look like the back end of those gay mail trucks. The bar tenders and waitresses could wear long black sock and grey shorts. And since you will most likely have a post office box outside, your special holiday could be April 15th, Tax Time. Drop off your taxes at the Claven's box, and get a free drink, because you need it.

Do you know anything about trees? My dad sells trees and makes about 120K a year. He works his own hours. He has to travel alot at certain times of the year but I guarantee you it's not hard. I've went on business trips with him. You get your own territory that already has residual business that buys from the company every year. All you really have to do is go talk to your buyers to keep rapport, bullshit about sports and hunting and tell them your shrubs and trees are good.

Actually doing some rehab on houses might be a good use of your time and talents. I see good deals in this market all that time and usually pass residential stuff up.

I will be semi retired in about 10 years at the age of 51..I would like to know what you think about an offer from a friend of mine who owns property in Mexico(Cabo).he owns a boat here on the east coast..we are both avid fisherman(salt water)..he will be retiring about the same time as me..after he retires he is going to move to Cabo and will be running a charter out of Cabo.he needs help with the boat/an assistant he says to me...
My question is..what would you do Mr. Phobia??if you loved Cabo(like I do)and fishing..and the relative cheapness of living in Mexico..problem is..most of your family lives on the northern and southern east coast..

Thank you Mr.Phobia,
