Hmmmm....im not sure how i feel about this yet? Do they plan on bringing in Indy's son to tag along on the adventure?? Harrison Ford is way too old for this sort of stuff anymore.....

BEVERLY HILLS, Calif. - George Lucas said Friday that filming of the long-awaited "Indiana Jones" movie will begin next year.

Harrison Ford, who appeared in the three earlier flicks, the last one coming in 1989, is set to star again.

Lucas said he and Steven Spielberg recently finalized the script for the film.

"It's going to be fantastic. It's going to be the best one yet," the 62-year-old filmmaker said during a break from preparing for his duties as grand marshal of Monday's Rose Parade.

Exact film locations have not been decided yet, but Lucas said part of the movie will be shot in Los Angeles.

The fourth chapter of the "Indiana Jones" saga, which will hit theaters in May 2008, has been in development for over a decade with several screenwriters taking a crack at the script, but it only recently gained momentum.

Lucas kept mum about the plot, but said that the latest action flick will be a "character piece" that will include "very interesting mysteries."

"I think it's going to be really cool," Lucas said.

At the inaugural Rome Film Festival in October, the 64-year-old Ford said he was excited to team up with Lucas and Spielberg again for the fourth "Indiana Jones" installment. Ford said he was "fit to continue" to play the title role despite his age.

Ford played Indiana Jones in 1981's "Raiders of the Lost Ark," 1984's "Temple of Doom" and 1989's "The Last Crusade."

Lucas praised Ford for breathing life into his character.

"Mostly it's the charm of Harrison that makes it work," he said.

I just watched the Harrison film Firewall and about half way through I realized that this is the same film Harrison has been making for years. He is always playing the reluctant hero in films like Air Force One, Patriot Games, The Fugitive... and others. Some villian crashes in on his peaceful routine and he must overcome them on his own.

Ford's in pretty good shape for his age, I'll watch it.

I am not exactly sure of what the "index pointing thing" is, but I am sure he must have done it.

I don't see how it could possibly be good at this point. Hopefully it's be the opposite of the prequels, where everyone will expect crap and we'll all be blown away.

Oh hes been doing it for years. Its become sort of a joke now. Even as far back as Empire Strikes Back.

I always thought some adventure in South America, post WWII could be cool, maybe an Inca quest repleat with encounters of former Nazis who escaped to said continent trying to gain some magical edge to regain power...

...some non-extraterrestrial McGuffin that explains those designs that can only be seen from the sky, but really they're derived from out of body experiences achieved from some plant-based psycho-active formula that Indy gets turned onto from his father's rereading of grail clues, or some such shite...

Harrison is a Rock Solid actor & can still pull it off, my fear is that Lucas will make a cornball mess out of it like he did in the 1st movie & a 1/2 of the new Star Wars episodes.

Wow, scott free, are you saying Raiders of the Lost Ark was a cornball mess? It was not only the best of the franchise, it revived a lost genre... I was 10 or 11 when it came out, true, but I had never seen anyhting like it.

I thought the 2nd one was a cornball mess with the kid sidekick and the ditz for a leading lady.

The "last" crusade should have been the last of the series, as it somewhat redeemed it...certainly it was smarted than the second...

...man... I have never heard someone criticize the first Indy Jones film without hating the whole thing...

I own the series and have watched, and will continue to watch the first more than the rest. Each moment, literally, provides something to praise, relative not only to action/adventure films contemporary to it, but even those past and present.

WTF?? Raiders of the Lost Ark is probably one of the 10 best films ever made.

Still holds up quite well after all these years. The others were decent and had their moments, but not near as good as that first film.

I'm talking about the cheese factor in Lucas's new Star Wars movies, atleast the 1st one & half of the 2nd one, and i hope he doesnt do it to this last Indy movie.

IMO he's too caught up in lush digital graphics at times & can be guilty of ham-fisted dialogue as well.

Well, Lucas only produces the Indy films and comes up with the stories.


Hes actually a pretty fine storyteller. What hes not good at is scriptwriting and dialouge in particular.


At least with the Indy films, Spielberg (a strong director) would keep him in check.

I thought when you said, in the context of this discussion concerning the new Indy movie, "like he did in the first movie" and 1/2 of the new Star Wars movies, you referred to the first Indy movie.

Rise of the Machines was a joke and totally ruined everything, its kind of like rocky 5 i pretend it didnt exist. arnold looked old and the whole movie was shit and didnt seem as serious as the other 2

I totally agree. Felt like a crappy movie from the first 5 minutes. I barely finished it.

I thought it was alright. The action scenes were pretty damn good and the ending was pretty ballsy.


It wasnt nearly as good as the first two though. James Cameron had nothing to do with it and obviously that didnt help.

Spielberg is probably the most consitantly great filmaker out there.

I agree, Spielberg still has it.

Munich was gritty & tight, SPR was a Masterpiece.

Thats why Lucas should take his fat head back to ILM & handle the effects for this Indy movie so that a Superior Director can make the calls on set & control dialogue.

I heard he'll be a part of the Transformers movie, that looks pretty kickass imo too.
