Golfers: What's in your bag?
Having gone several months without swinging the sticks, I'm needing any kind of golf talk possible.....
So, those of you that play golf, what's in your bag? Any new clubs you've demoed, or would like to demo? My sticks: Cleveland Launcher 460 Composition (9.5 degree) Cleveland Launcher Composition 3 Wood (15 degree) Titleist 904F 5 Wood (18.5 degree) Cleveland TA6 Irons Adams gunmetal wedges (52, 56 and 60 degree) Guerin Rife Mallet putter Ball: Usually play Nike One Black. Also play Bridgestone B330 and Callaway HX Tour56. I'm pretty happy with my driver, but am dying to demo the new Nike Sumo Squared. I'd really like to get some new irons this spring, but haven't even begun to look...... |
I have a black Ogio cart bag.
Driver: Taylormade R5 Neutral 10.5 degrees Woods: Adams golf tight lies 3 and 5 woods Irons: Adams golf tight lies irons 3-LW Putter: Some crappy Dunlop one that I got accustomed to when I first started playing. I generally play with Nike Mojos or Callaway HX Hots. |
Everything but game.
|
Let's see...
Last time I checked: 9.5 V-Foil driver (I got pissed at my Callaway and bought this cheap...hit the $hit out of it) Callaway 3 wood (15 degree) 1-PW Ping Eye 2. Bought new in 1985 Green dot, 1/2 extended SW I believe is back to the trusty black dot putter... Ping MyDay from early 80s. Again...pissed at the TaylorMade Ball....ProV1 of course. |
I have two balls in my bag. The balls aren't dimpled, but the bag is.

Sasquatch Driver (10.5)
Callaway Steel Head 3 & 5 fairway metals Callaway Fusion Irons (1" long, 1.5 deg. upright) Zebra Putter I've used for years and years. I've played a zillion brands/types of balls. I played the Pro V1 alot last year. |
TM R5 with NV
Mizuno MP-32 irons Nickent Genex Cross 4, 7, 9 wood Nickent 3DX 5 and 6 Hybrid Mizuno MP Black Ox Wedges (51, 56 & 60 degree) Titleist Scotty Cameron Futura putter At any point I can be carrying 3-PW of my MP 32's or pull out the 3-6 iron and be playing with some combination of those fairway woods and hybrids. Depends on the wind and depends on what I have the most confidence at that given moment. Most people love the hybrids over long irons...I have traditionally prefered long irons but I finally found some hybrids that I like with these Nickents...I had tried everything under the sun and liked several but none better than my long irons. I finished last season really liking that Genex Cross 7 wood. It was my goto club at the end of the year. Three back surgeries over the winter so it is tough to say what will work best after a completely surgically repaired back. |

I'm still looking for a 3 wood.....any recommendations?
|

everyone else lines up to buy Pro V1's and HX Tour 56's...i like them, but you can find a nice 3 piece for much cheaper... another one that i liked before it was discontinued was the Callaway HX Blues; i swear, they were almost as soft as the old Titleist Tour Balatas and Tour Professionals...you hit one thin and it's pretty much ruined..I still keep a few of these in my bag for scramble tournament golf, those gunmetal wedges can put some crazy spin on em bp |
I just started playing about a year ago. I'm not any good yet. I normally land right around 100. This year my goal is to get to where I am consistently in the 90s. Mid or low would be great. I really plan on working hard.
I have some Taylor Made irons that I just bought toward the end of last season, I have only played a round or two with them but I really started liking them. Never had fitted irons before. My woods are Callaways that I picked up used - nothing fancy. I might go with Taylor Made ones when I replace them if I keep liking the irons as much as I do so far. |

I made my own clubs.
OK...well, I bought generic Ping irons and steel shafts and built them myself while working at a golf shop in my early 20's. I've had them since. I still have my original Bulls-Eye putter I used during my tourney days. Much to my father's surprise and shock, he noticed I was still putting with it last summer. I have a Callaway driver and a Taylor Made driver. Not sure what my other woods are for I rarely ever use 'em. I'm shopping around for a whole new set of irons, and of course, a new putter. It'll be hard to give up my putter- I'll probably just encase it in glass and memorialize it on my wall in my den. :D |
Taylor Made Steelburner 9.5
Taylor Made Steelburner 3,5 Wilson Tour Irons (upgrading this spring... yippee... ) Cleveland PW, LW, SW Dunlop heavy mallet putter (I have a White Hot, but prefer the cheap ass Dunlop... too scared/impatient to relearn a putter) And thanks for reminding us we can't golf this weekend... stupid white shit falling again.... I've had the golf itch like none other lately, and putting on the carpet and Tiger Woods 07 just ain't cutting it... |

After putters, fairway woods are one of the more personal clubs. Peoples preferences are all over the board and finding a good fairway wood that works for your game can be as tough as finding the right wife. Once you do stick with it. Technology has gotten better in fairway woods over the years but not as much of a difference as there has been in drivers. You will see tour players using 10 to 20 year old fairway woods that they just can't take out of the bag. |

I miss playing some golf too.
I got some ping irons a almost 10 years ago (present to myself when my first son was born) slowly upgraded the woods to callaways, got the big bertha about two years ago and last year got an upgrade at putter finally. I love playing, been playing for a while (broke 80 once also about 10 years ago), but now I'm having a good day when I keep 18 holes under 100. Still, I would rather have a bad day golf than a good day at work, and there's always the few great shots and usually one, one spectacular shot that keeps me coming back. |
I've got the Nike Slingshot Irons
Callaway big bertha driver Nike CPR HYBRID Ping eye2 putter.. |

You made plenty of sense, it was my lame attempt at being funny. 9 hole Par 3 =27 |
Got an old set of LH 'Burke' clubs and McGregor leather bag from neighbor for $10.... just in case I decide to play
|
To start things off, I have a Callaway Big Bertha Hawkeye.
Then I usually turn to my Ping Zing clones (Several proshop guys have told me they are the best Ping knockoffs they've ever seen) I have a 1-3W but usually only carry the 3-3W A generic putter that I preffer to even the better brands - I just like the feel of it. And last summer I picked up a Wilson 4 Wood out of a bin of clubs at the local thrift store for $2. I've always prefered the feel of real wood off the fairways and it seems like you can't find them new much anymore. I'll play this one until the wrap comes loose and the club breaks. Then I'll go back to my tightlies while I look for another one. As for balls, I have found a brand that is really cheap but work good for me. I get them at some of the pro-shops around here. I think they are made by Ranger and come in white/red but sometimes I can get yellow/red. They seem to come in bulk and usually run me about $3.50 for 3-4 dozen - one purchase usually lasts me most of a season. |
my newest driver is a taylor made R7460, have not got to swing it much before winter but love it. the rest of my clubs are snake eyes, 1-9 irons & all 3 wedges. the best part is my cart, bright red club car with a yellow seat & top, with chiefs stickers all over it. oh and yellow wheels too. you really see me coming down the fairway

Friggin' snow.
Orlimar driver, 3w and 5w. Innovex irons 5 through 64* lob wedge. Wilson 3,4 hybrid irons. I love these. It took a couple of season's work to learn how to hit them properly, but these clubs have helped me immensly. Odyssey 2 ball putter. (meh) Precept U-tri or Laddie Exreme. Late last year I found what I would call a very good 'value ball'. The Wilson Smart Core. Found them on sale for $4.99 (24 pack). These balls were so good for me I went back and bought 3 more packages. |

A few years back (8 or so) I bought a set of clubs from some guy. They are basically an off-brand that I bought to use while I learned to lay, before dropping tons of money on nicer clubs. I spent a couple of years teaching myself to play (against the advice of anyone who I had ever discussed it with).
But the "teaching myself" thing has never worked out real well (surprise!). This year, my wife and I are finally going to invest in some lessons. We'll see how those work out, and I may upgrade to an actual brand of clubs. |

Herzig used to have a thread like this. To be honest, my clubs are setting in the guest bedroom, but it is only a month and a week before our golf starts. We have a standing tee time up here, and are on the hook, play or not.
I probably have 5 complete sets, and at least a 100 total clubs. But these are the ones I was playing with at the end of last season. It really is the Indian, and not the arrow, but I tried to prove that theory wrong. I sure wish I had the dough back. My lineup hasn't changed except I bought a pull cart after reading that carrying clubs means a higher score. I also bought a GPS software package for my PDA last year. It's amazing how much difference there was between what I thought the distance was (based on markers, etc.) and what it actually was, especially when off the fairway.

I was playing with Founders Club blades, actually pretty well, and they were stolen. I bought these as replacements, and have never really gained any confidence in them. Probably only played a couple dozen rounds with them, but they are pretty to look at. |

You'll pay more if you order directly from them, but even then, they are a really good value. Sign up for their e-mail list. Every Tues/Wed they send out an e-mail with a special. The last one was 20% off all Titleist balls, ProV1 and ProV1x included. Buy nothing but the AAAAA balls, though. Unless you're OK with anywhere from 25-60% of the order having scuffs. Some people are fine with that. Their grading scale is very truthful. FWIW, their E-bay store is usually cheaper than their website, unless you have an e-mail coupon. |
