your predictions: What will the Chiefs get for Trent Green?
Let's see what everyone really thinks we will get for Green.

Your mom

I'm going to guess they get a second-round pick for him.

? Yeah ok, that makes me feel better...that I have fans at WPI. Been banned there too |
The best we can hope for is a 4th.
No 82 year old QB will warrant first day pics unless he is some sort of unholy savant. |
A conditional pick for 08 in the 3rd-5th round range.
|
Anything higher than a 4th rounder will be a total shock to me, based on age alone.
I'm guessing a 6th rounder or equivalent player. |
with Carl leading the way?????
a conditional 6th ... possible 5th if Green leads the team to the super bowl. what is Green worth? a conditional 2nd rounder .... if he starts all year and throws for more than 3k yards it turns into a 1st. |

Green is good enough to lead the Chicago Bear to a Super Bowl victory ... maybe multiple ... that's worth a 2nd rounder to them. Miami ...... a 3rd conditional to a 2nd Green is a solid QB and a good leader .... great chemistry guy. If you have a good team and needs someone of character at the helm then Green is worth it. if your team is young and rebuilding then you don't want Green at all. |
How many teams are ready though to send a R2 (conditional R1) pick to KC for Green? There just aren't too many openings available for that price on a guy that old, especially that are 1 or 2 players away from winning a title.
CHI has too much $ and recent picks invested in the QB position to invest another 1st day pick on a QB that old. |
A Panic'd preseason when everyone is suddenly forced to remember what Huard normally looks like in the preseason...

Green's not worth anything with his age matched with his contract matched with his shitty post-concussion play last year. I'd say we'd be fortunate to get a 5th. We're talking about starting Croyle over him. If we see him that way, why in the hell would any team give up anything of value for a 37-year old backup...

the conditional part will be there because Carl with want to save face and leave some room for ambiguity. disagree about chicago ..... they are in their window. They dick around too much and they will miss it. They need a QB and they need one now. Green is a proven guy who won't screw things up ...... Chicago doesn't have a guy like that now. a 2nd round pick is worth it for a legit chance at the next 3 super bowls. |

i'm guessing a 5th, would be thrilled with a 4th....anything higher and I would want drug testing for Miami....

You may try to bend the 'Skins over somehow, but we're currently busy with them so you'll have to wait for sloppy seconds. |
Green won't screw up? He had 7 touchdowns and 9 interceptions last year as well as some fumbles and a pretty notable screw-up in the redzone in the playoffs. Oh, and he's 192 years old. I would be ecstatic to get a 4th for him.

Trent Green, Kendra Bell, Ron Edwards, and William Bartee to Miami for this year's 2nd and 5th round and a conditional 2008 4th/5th round pick depending upon the performance of Green, Bell, and Bartee.
Miami trades Green and Ronnie Brown to Chicago for Cedric Benson and Chicago's 1st round pick. Chiefs then ship Larry Johnson to Cleveland for Cleveland's 1st round pick and a conditional 3rd round pick in 2008. Chiefs get another 1st rounder in 2007 and pick up Adrian Peterson. They also get an additional 2nd and 5th round pick this year's draft; as well as 2 conditional picks in 2008. |

Green is a slow starter ... he typically takes 2/3 games to really get started. He also takes a quarter to get started each game. he got hurt after 1 game .... then game back and had to restart again. With Herm's wonderful offense he never was really able to get that 1st quarter rhythm going because of our run, run, pass, punt approach. last year was not a fair evaluation of Green i believe we will find now that most QB's look pretty crappy when playing for the Hermanator. |

anyone dared say that about Green before you knew he was gone, you would of freaked out and played the "true fan" card faster than Paris Hilton drops to her knees in the bedroom. now that Green is leaving everyone feels free to throw him under the bus. Just like every other coach/player after they left the chiefs. they are sacred while here .... trash as soon as they step out the door. http://img338.imageshack.us/img338/9...underthrx4.jpg |

ESPN has reported that the Chiefs are wanting a second day pick.
My guess is we'll be lucky to get a 5th. |

I think maybe you're so focused on Peterson/Herm that you're not seeing Green's play for what it was last year. He played well in exactly one game, his third after the injury (Cleveland). He was awful in the two before that, he was awful in the 5 after that. That's a half a season of bad play. It wasn't a week or two. And I don't think it was a rhythm thing. He was making bad decisions and poor throws week after week. He looked like an even worse version of himself from 2001. I'm sure that Solari was a part of that, I'm sure that the line was a part of that, I'm sure that the receivers were a part of that. I'm also, however, sure that Green himself is a part of that, and I think maybe the biggest part. He's 37. He's even less mobile now than before, and it's only going to get worse. He's had a serious head injury. He's not the same player he was, physically or mentally. You could see it in the way he looked on the field and in the pocket. Personally, I think he's done. He looks to me a lot like Kurt Warner did when he fell off the map. It's a shame. I think he's a great guy. |
I don't see why any team trades for a 37 year old QB. This ain't Joe Montana we're talking about.
|
Quote:
I say the same, but after reading yesterday that CP wouldn't hold up a trade by demanding too much or too high of a pick, I'm leaning more toward just the 5th round pick. |

to me Trent looked uncomfortable when a QB looks like he doesn't really understand the point of the offense, they generally look like crap. Add pressure to the equation and they look like nervous crap. Green looked like nervous crap last year i think it's 70/30 that if Green comes back healthy and in a decent system he can throw 3,000+ yards again. interestingly enough, i give that same 70/30 shot to Huard in the opposite direction. A 70/30 that Huard turns back into a frog next year. |

Well said. I'm 100% in agreement. I've said previously that that concussion appeared to have aged Green 2-3 years. |
Quote:
If you were to go back 4 years and look at the posts you would see that I was pretty unhappy to give up the 1st for Green. I wanted to sign a free-agent QB (Collins, I think) and draft McAllister. Green actually did impress me the last 4 years but he was not the same player after that concussion. I don't think it is "throwing Green under the bus" to recognize that Green did not play well after the concussion. That is a fact. |
He will end up part of someones' trade to Oakland for Moss. Biesel still a Pat?
|
If the Chiefs get anything I'd be surprised. It just don't see much of a market for a 37 yr old QB coming off a major head injury and looked mediocre at best when he returned. You can blame Herm or the offensive line but IMO he is finished. That hit took something out of him that he might not get back.
I'd say he will end up getting cut. |

I think the Chiefs have 2 5th round picks this year.
My prediction is Green and a 5th for a 4th. |
where is a pick ~5th and a young/old player?

Combine those factors with his age, and I think it's a recipe for a bad end to a good career. That's assuming he isn't just a backup. I also don't think Green, at his age, would have gardered a 2nd rounder in a trade last year, prior to the concussion. But that's just my opinion. I don't think any team is going to dish out that much for a 36-year old signal caller. Now we're a year later, after a serious injury and a poor season. As for Huard, I don't expect anything from him. He's had his 15 minutes in the sun. It was fun while it lasted, now it's back to mentoring the clipboard. |
We'll be lucky to get a 7th.

but it would of happened heck, there would of a 12-page thread if i would of said Trent Green doesn't have a very strong arm 12 months ago. |

If I thought we had the player talent and coaching talent to make a serious run, I'd definitely want Trent back. Given our Herminated offense, losing Green is anti-climatic. I wouldn't be at all surprised to see Trent play very well for his next team, though. To me, starting Damon Huard is tantamount to throwing in the towel as far as winning championships is concerned. He may be able to "manage a game", but what happens when you fall behind? I guess for that matter, Herm's brand of offense itself has already thrown in the towel and is simply playing for 9-7 seasons. |

I'm sure that Solari was a part of that, I'm sure that the line was a part of that, I'm sure that the receivers were a part of that. I'm also, however, sure that Green himself is a part of that, and I think maybe the biggest part. |
