Damn, that's too bad. Much entertainment that man gave me, the world is a lesser place without him. RIP, Kurt Vonnegut.

Halfcan 04-11-2007 10:45 PM

Thig Lyfe 04-11-2007 10:47 PM

Death
Vonnegut died on April 11, 2007, after suffering brain injuries as a result of a fall several weeks before. Vonnegut is up in heaven now. [1]

LOL

I love it.

"Slaughterhouse Five" is one of the best books ever written.

After hearing that he would get an F on a Vonnegut paper
Rodney: And tell Vonnegut I'm stopping payment on the check.

God save the man that points out the flaws in a Democracy.

Politics be damned, he was an honest voice, and a loss for us all...

Jenson71 04-11-2007 11:07 PM

When the last living thing

has died on account of us,

how poetical it would be

if Earth could say,

in a voice floating up

perhaps

from the floor

of the Grand Canyon,

“It is done.”

People did not like it here.

Eleazar 04-11-2007 11:10 PM

RIP :(

Reaper16 04-11-2007 11:53 PM

Rest In Peace, Kurt.
What a literary badass. From notable novels like "Cat's Cradle," "Breakfast of Champions," and "The Slaughterhouse Five" to lesser known stuff, like the incredible short story "Harrison Bergeron," Vonnegut was awesome.
What a loss.

ChiefFan31 04-11-2007 11:55 PM

Hey Vonnegut, do you read lips?

**** YOU

Braincase 04-12-2007 05:20 AM

From the man who gave us Wanda June, Billy Pilgrim, Montana Wildhack, Dwayne Hoover, Wayne Hoobler, Resi Noth, et al.

"Nice, nice, very nice. So many people in the same device."

RIP, an author worth reading.

Thanks for posting the interview with Jon Stewart. I wonder if that was his last public interview?

It's amazing, but I thought he looked a little like Mark Twain.

There was a great story in the KC Star this morning about Vonnegut's experience in WWII that influenced his writing of Slaughterhouse 5.

In WWII he was in an Army unit at the Battle of the Bulge. Most of his company was killed in battle, he escaped and was wandering around trying to make contact with friendly forces when he was captured by the Germans.

They sent him as a POW to Dresden, to work in an old slaughterhouse, making vitamin suppliments for German troops. He worked in an underground meat locker.

The Allies firebombed Dresden, the worst firestorm from a bombing raid in history, and killed thousands of Germans. The only thing that saved Vonnegut was being underground in a meat locker.

After the bombing, the Germans made American POW's, including Vonnegut, help collect the dead from the bombing. That must have been gruesome.

Interesting insight into a life experience that would shape his world view.

RIP Kurt.

Also, check his website, very classy:

I thought I pos' repped you with an ambiguously negative rep message. My memory doesn't stretch that far back.

Not the end of the world, but if I was serious...I would deserve it. No worries.

It's amazing how little media coverage KV's death gets as compared to ... say.... ANNA NICHOLE SMITH!!
:shake:

RIP KV.

supercoupe91 04-14-2007 01:51 PM

Vonnegut was much like Twain in that he despised America. Being a POW pretty much darkened his entire world view for life, it's incredible that he could make so many people laugh.

Like Einstein and Twain, Vonnegut gave up on people towards the end of their lives.

Buck 04-14-2007 02:57 PM

RIP Kurt. You are by far my favorite Author ever.

Yet all three were supreme badasses of the highest magnitude.

It's funny, you picked the three celebrities of recent history that obviously forgot the address to the barber shop. What's the link between bad hair and greatness? :hmmm:
