Internet Virus Help PLEASE!!!!!!

I have Norton Anti-Virus on my computer and I have Webroot Spy Sweeper, and I sweep my computer for viruses quite often. Somehow some virus has gotten through and it keeps popping up and says you know, backdoor.trojan (thats its name) is a high risk virus and is unrepairable for Norton, and this stupid thing keeps popping up. How do I get rid of this little rascal do I need to get my computer hard drive cleaned or something. Its on my personal laptop, so It wouldnt be a big deal to clean my hard drive. Any help would be GREATLY appreciated PLEASE.

Phobia 04-27-2007 09:18 PM

For starters get rid of the backdoor.Norton virus.

DaFace 04-27-2007 09:18 PM

Does it give you the name of the file or its location? "Backdoor.trojan" is a catch-all category and doesn't tell us much about what you're actually dealing with.

Sam Hall 04-27-2007 09:20 PM

You have to run those two programs everyday until the virus happens to disappear. That's been my expereince with both of those programs anyway.

El Jefe 04-27-2007 09:30 PM

What program would you recommend? All the description says is Backdoor.Trojan risk level 2:low. It says type Trojan Horse. Infection Length:Varies. Is this something I should worry about?

Smed1065 04-27-2007 09:33 PM

Find the program and delete it.

Trojan remover is what I have but have never had to use it.

Smed1065 04-27-2007 09:34 PM

check google and find out the down-low on the trojan and see what is recommended to remove.

The two programs you have should get the job done. I wonder about the infection length. Like I said before, I've had reoccuring viruses that seemed to go away when they felt like it.

El Jefe 04-27-2007 09:42 PM

Ok thanks a lot. I think if it doesnt go away in a little bit, I will use the Trojan remover.

El Jefe 04-27-2007 09:44 PM

Oh on a side note if you try to get into the file all it says is unable to enter file, so it wont let you delete it. And when I sweep with both programs they show it to you but you cant quarantine it or delete it, both programs cant do anything to it.

DaFace 04-27-2007 09:45 PM

If you already know where the file is, you might be able to get to it if you boot up in safe mode (pressing F8 when your PC first boots).

El Jefe 04-27-2007 09:47 PM

Oh Ok I will try that thanks DaFace.

DaFace 04-27-2007 09:49 PM

Good luck. For what it's worth, you should be able to run SpySweeper in safe mode to make sure you're getting everything out of there. Norton probably won't (because Norton sucks).

Mecca 04-27-2007 09:49 PM

This is a good example why the FREE Avast anti-virus is better than the Norton one you have to pay for...

Smed1065 04-27-2007 09:51 PM

Reboot safe mode and run programs.

Sam Hall 04-27-2007 09:52 PM

I got rid of Norton because Spy Sweeper flat out does more to protect my computer. Norton rarely found anything when I ran it and the sweeps took too long.

El Jefe 04-27-2007 09:56 PM

Ok, in response to Mecca I just got into doing stuff on the computer last year. I mean like internet forums and crap like that so I havent really had any with Norton.

Mecca 04-27-2007 09:59 PM

Well I refuse to pay for an anti-virus.....or spyware programs for that matter.

El Jefe 04-27-2007 10:07 PM

Sam Hall, I agree the sweep times are ridiculous on Norton. What is the best in your opinion Mecca?

Mecca 04-27-2007 10:12 PM

I use Avast........haven't had any virus problems. I think several other people on this board also use it.

El Jefe 04-27-2007 10:13 PM

Ok interesting I will have to do a little research on it. Thank you sir.

Eric 04-27-2007 10:14 PM

Use AOL antivirus. It's free. Picks up 98% of viruses.

http://www.activevirusshield.com/ uses Kapersky which is toprated in the world.

Avast is overrated.

Norton = overrated.

El Jefe 04-27-2007 10:17 PM

Ok sweet thanks I will look at that too. I have been to say the least, displeased with Norton because its not cheap and it barely does its job.

How is it overated......Avast is about the best free anti-virus out there...

Smed1065 04-27-2007 10:23 PM

Do not use any AOL program.

El Jefe 04-27-2007 11:04 PM

Why not smed1065?

Smed1065 04-27-2007 11:20 PM

I sent you a PM.

I think that a backdoor Trojan is intended to protect against viruses.

Oh. On a computer? Nevermind.

that's due to having a more user friendly setup compared to NOD32, but if you want the best protection then NOD32 is your product, and it won't eat up all your harddrive space.

TrickyNicky 04-28-2007 07:51 AM

AVG is also a great free antivirus. When the McAfee sub that came with my computer ran out I switched over. Haven't had any problems.

htismaqe 04-28-2007 09:32 AM

Avast is overrated?

ROFL

That's why it won two awards from CSO magazine last year...

GoHuge 04-28-2007 09:53 AM

I have Norton and when I let it expire I got a very bad virus. It wouldn't even let me go to my home page (Yahoo) and would send me to a site for Anti-virus solutions. I renewed my Norton and it took about three weeks for Norton to finally get rid of it. Haven't had any problems since. I don't know which of these programs is the best but Norton did eventually get rid of it. I'm surprised Norton let a virus that bad get through. I've never had problems with it until I let it expire. Just passing this along...I'm far from a "computer techie guy." When I have problems with my laptop I make my IT guy at work fix it.

ILikeBigTiddys 04-28-2007 09:54 AM

Now that you know that norton sucks try some free downloads to get rid of it. Like housecall, bitdefender, avira or avast.

Mosbonian 04-28-2007 11:04 AM

My kids got a virus on my son's computer and my laptop.....I used several different things to clear off all the crap that ended up on there.

But the clincher to cleaning out everything (virus and spyware) was Hijack This. Plus I got a little help from people here and a Techie friend of mine who reviewed everything to make sure it was clean.

Now all my computers have AVG....

Oh sure. It's not as good as Kapersky which is ranked no.1 and it's not free.

Are you an idiot?

Simply Red 04-30-2007 08:31 AM

I have a problem as well...

AD/Mal/Spyware. Ran Spybot. Hasn't helped. It boots off my native home page and re-routes to it's spyware page. Any free solutions would be appreciated.

Yes I have tried antifreeze option.

Simply Red 04-30-2007 08:35 AM

GREAT. Thanks.

Don't know if it'll work, but it's worth a shot. I dumped Norton recently for it and [crossing fingers] haven't had any problems since.

Keep in mind clamwin is not a realtime scanner - ie - it doesn't scan your system when you open a file in your email, or while your browsing...

from their site - "Please note that ClamWin Free Antivirus does not include an on-access real-time scanner. You need to manually scan a file in order to detect a virus or spyware."

Yeah, I should have included that. I use gmail as my e-mail, so files aren't housed on my computer (and gmail has a scanner).

Oh, yes. I've also tried anti-freeze.

Help!!!! Rep. to follow.

Did you happen to try resetting the date/time of your computer for before the infection? Wondered if this would do the trick. Actually, not sure if I remember how to do this... :hmmm:

Why do you need a "trojan" remover? Is it too small to see? ROFL
