Internet Virus Help PLEASE!!!!!!
I have Norton Anti-Virus on my computer and I have Webroot Spy Sweeper, and I sweep my computer for viruses quite often. Somehow some virus has gotten through and it keeps popping up and says you know, backdoor.trojan (thats its name) is a high risk virus and is unrepairable for Norton, and this stupid thing keeps popping up. How do I get rid of this little rascal do I need to get my computer hard drive cleaned or something. Its on my personal laptop, so It wouldnt be a big deal to clean my hard drive. Any help would be GREATLY appreciated PLEASE.
For starters get rid of the backdoor.Norton virus.
Does it give you the name of the file or its location? "Backdoor.trojan" is a catch-all category and doesn't tell us much about what you're actually dealing with.
You have to run those two programs everyday until the virus happens to disappear. That's been my expereince with both of those programs anyway.
What program would you recommend? All the description says is Backdoor.Trojan risk level 2:low. It says type Trojan Horse. Infection Length:Varies. Is this something I should worry about?
Find the program and delete it.
Trojan remover is what I have but have never had to use it. |
check google and find out the down-low on the trojan and see what is recommended to remove.

Ok thanks a lot. I think if it doesnt go away in a little bit, I will use the Trojan remover.
Oh on a side note if you try to get into the file all it says is unable to enter file, so it wont let you delete it. And when I sweep with both programs they show it to you but you cant quarantine it or delete it, both programs cant do anything to it.
If you already know where the file is, you might be able to get to it if you boot up in safe mode (pressing F8 when your PC first boots).
Oh Ok I will try that thanks DaFace.
Good luck. For what it's worth, you should be able to run SpySweeper in safe mode to make sure you're getting everything out of there. Norton probably won't (because Norton sucks).
This is a good example why the FREE Avast anti-virus is better than the Norton one you have to pay for...
Reboot safe mode and run programs.
I got rid of Norton because Spy Sweeper flat out does more to protect my computer. Norton rarely found anything when I ran it and the sweeps took too long.
Ok, in response to Mecca I just got into doing stuff on the computer last year. I mean like internet forums and crap like that so I havent really had any with Norton.
Well I refuse to pay for an anti-virus.....or spyware programs for that matter.
Sam Hall, I agree the sweep times are ridiculous on Norton. What is the best in your opinion Mecca?
I use Avast........haven't had any virus problems. I think several other people on this board also use it.
Ok interesting I will have to do a little research on it. Thank you sir.
Use AOL antivirus. It's free. Picks up 98% of viruses.
http://www.activevirusshield.com/ uses Kapersky which is toprated in the world. Avast is overrated. Norton = overrated. |
Ok sweet thanks I will look at that too. I have been to say the least, displeased with Norton because its not cheap and it barely does its job.

Internet Virus Help PLEASE!!!!!!
Get NOD32 anti-virus software then you'll neve have this problem again |

Oh. On a computer? Nevermind. |

Facts. |

that's due to having a more user friendly setup compared to NOD32, but if you want the best protection then NOD32 is your product, and it won't eat up all your harddrive space. |
AVG is also a great free antivirus. When the McAfee sub that came with my computer ran out I switched over. Haven't had any problems.
Avast is overrated?
ROFL That's why it won two awards from CSO magazine last year... |
I have Norton and when I let it expire I got a very bad virus. It wouldn't even let me go to my home page (Yahoo) and would send me to a site for Anti-virus solutions. I renewed my Norton and it took about three weeks for Norton to finally get rid of it. Haven't had any problems since. I don't know which of these programs is the best but Norton did eventually get rid of it. I'm surprised Norton let a virus that bad get through. I've never had problems with it until I let it expire. Just passing this along...I'm far from a "computer techie guy." When I have problems with my laptop I make my IT guy at work fix it.
Now that you know that norton sucks try some free downloads to get rid of it. Like housecall, bitdefender, avira or avast.
My kids got a virus on my son's computer and my laptop.....I used several different things to clear off all the crap that ended up on there.
But the clincher to cleaning out everything (virus and spyware) was Hijack This. Plus I got a little help from people here and a Techie friend of mine who reviewed everything to make sure it was clean. Now all my computers have AVG.... mmaddog ******* |

Oh sure. It's not as good as Kapersky which is ranked no.1 and it's not free. Are you an idiot? |
I have a problem as well...
AD/Mal/Spyware. Ran Spybot. Hasn't helped. It boots off my native home page and re-routes to it's spyware page. Any free solutions would be appreciated.
Yes I have tried antifreeze option. |
GREAT. Thanks.

Don't know if it'll work, but it's worth a shot. I dumped Norton recently for it and [crossing fingers] haven't had any problems since.

Keep in mind clamwin is not a realtime scanner - ie - it doesn't scan your system when you open a file in your email, or while your browsing... from their site - "Please note that ClamWin Free Antivirus does not include an on-access real-time scanner. You need to manually scan a file in order to detect a virus or spyware." |
