Have you ever looked at LT's stats?
27 years old with 100TD's and after this season he'll have over 10,000 yards. He's way under 30. He will break yards and td records for all RB's. Good bye Emmit.
Damn he's a bad ass. |
Glad to see Emmitt go down so fast.
|
Add about 3,000 yards receiving and 11 receiving TD's and you're looking at a guy who's on his way to Canton.
|
I think he's not on his way. I think the bust is being made already and just waiting for him to retire and become eligible. He's already there if he stops playing today.

If he goes another 6 years like his first 6, we'll have all been fortunate enough to see the best running back in the history of the game. The whole 'plays for a rival' part, sucks, but he is what he is, and for probably 75% of his career so far, he's done it with shit for an o-line, up until the last year and a half or so.
|
The Chargers were idiots. They traded away the opportunity to draft the only legitimate Superstar in that draft, Michael Vick. What did they get in return?
Thankfully, we have someone like Carl Peterson running our front office. |
Sandy Eggo should trade him now. Everyone knows a back can't keep up that kind of pace. He's already shot his wad in this league and it's nothing but downhill from here.

Wont matter, LT will never have a championship ring, so he'll get passed on the ballot for the first five years he is eligible...or he'll wind up like Ricky Williams....or traded to another team for draft picks....
LT is just another Barry Sanders....his star-status burns bright for a few years...then dissappears into oblivion. Hes just another Ki-Jana Carter....Curtis Enis....Errict Rhett.....the list goes on. |
No Doubt LT is an exceptional RB.... HOF likely a lock even if he tapers off.

And the longer they're competitive, the easier it is to hate them. The pity is gone, they're not the lovable, goofy little brother in the division anymore. The Raiders are trying to take that role. I find I do dislike SD slightly less now that martyocre is gone. I got a bizarre enjoyment out of watching him spin his wheels year after year. |

SD has no single player or defining moment that makes me hate them. They certainly are a better team with a brighter future than we are (at least, for the moment) but I've never yelled about how their players or coach are dirty, cheating bastards or how I hate their owner or anything like that. You may be right, over time that might happen. But I don't have a problem losing with dignity if the team is just better. When you have Neil Smith taunting the audience after a playoff loss while the rest of the team is wiping vaseline off their uniforms, that breeds a lot of hate. SD, on the other hand seems like a classy organization. |

But Snoopy never choked...especially when all the odds were with him. Hell..even Charlie Brown and the Peanuts gang could have won the Super Bowl berth....instead of losing to a second rate team. |
I guess I never really hated San Diego. Now that Marty's gone, they don't even register on the radar anymore with me.
|
Barring major injury, he'll shatter almost all the Rushing records.

LT is at a Ken Griffey Junior-esque phase of his career. If he keeps it up, yes he'll break all the records, but who's to say he won't suffer a bad injury (he hasn't yet), or a drop in productivity (he has had a heavy workload his entire career).
It's a definite possibility, but by no means a given. |

They're all great, but I'll agree with Barry and Walter being more fun to watch at times. Some of their moves were just beautiful.

I hope that he does break all of Emmitt's records. Emmitt's best quality was his durability. Can you even imagine what those records would look like if LJ played in that offense and managed to stay healthy as long as Emmitt did?
|
Let me first start by saying, LT, and Barry Sanders are F'ing amazing talent. You can't develop that type of talent. But, in my (newbie) opinion, they are different types of talents. What makes LT so great is his refriggindiculous speed combined with great intuition. Sanders didn't have blazing speed, but had crazy nimble feet and could make any defensive player miss and look like a 'tard. If you went through the highlight reels of the two players, LT couldn't throw down 35 jukes, and make the best defensive player in the NFL fall down, and Sanders couldn't break a Chiefs tackle and go for 85 yards by leaving the Chiefs in the dust.
To define one as better than the other would mean defining one's skill set as superior to the other's. Not something I would like to do, especially now, since LT hasn't summed up his career. Even after LT throws in the towel on a fantastic career, there will still be the arguement of the two playing for very different teams, talent levels, play calling, and perhaps even different eras. Crucify me for riding the fence, but my final answer has to be that they are both fantastic players. I can't effectively evaluate one as higher than the other. |
Damn, the Y/A for sanders over his career is impressive...
|
He's automatic with or without rings. He's also first ballot. Its a no brainer. He has to stay healthy though.
|
Sanders may be the best pure runner, with his gravity-defying ankle-breaking moves, but LT, if he avoids injury, will be the best *running back*. He's a better blocker than Sanders and he has more receptions in 4 fewer seasons. There's more to the game than being fun to watch.
|
Ahhh, the guys a bum...the Spider Rico of RB's.
|
All is redundant. He'll get burned out just as Jamal Anderson did.

LT will end up with better stats, but Barry started most of his runs with five defenders in the backfield. LT hasn't had to deal with near as bad of an O-line as Barry did. I guess we'll never know for sure, but put Barry behind a passable line and I bet he kills LT's stats.
|
If Barry had had 1 of our great lines or the Cowgirls of the 90's lines, theres simply NO question that he would be the greatest statistical RB of All-Time.
Nobody would have had a CHANCE. |

LT has more work total on his body. But LJ has intense wear in a short period of time, which in many ways is much worse. |
Quote:
LJ is the slightly younge version that sat in the garage half the time early on, then the old lady took it out and stood on the gas going 90. |
I still say Johnson has about three all-pro type seasons left in him, and that's fine with me.
|
And what makes LT even more amazing is:
LJ was Born: 11/19/1979 LT was Born: 06/23/1979 Lt is basically 5 months older and has managed 6 great seasons in 6 years... compared To LJ's 2 great seasons in 4 years...(yes it is unfortunate that he had to sit behind Priest, but Priest was great when he was here not hurt...) Not a shot on Larry, just saying how amazing LT has been with his career so far... |
Barry Sanders > LT now
I will never put any RB above Barry Sanders, so the best LT can do in my opinion is tie him for best RB of all time. And LT can juke the shit out of people. I don't know what Buehler445 is thinking. Ask Ty Law. |

I have no difficulty hating SD and that goes for Seattle when they were around and sucked. Being a division rival is all the motivation I need. |

LT had 4 rushing TDs today and tied up Jim Brown for 4th all time on the Rushing TD's list with 106 Rushing TDs...
He also passed The Diesel (Riggins) in this game... He is 4 TDs away from tying Walter Payton for 3rd all time, 17 TDs away from tying Marcus Allen for 2nd all time, and 58 away from tying Emmitt Smith for 1st all time. He is also about 300 yards away from 10,000 Rushing Yards for his career... Hes 21st on the career rushing yards list, and can reallistically end the season at 16th. |
He has been overused
worthless now /mecca |
I always wonder if barry even if he had a line would go through and start doing his dance. I think barry sanders was the best running back to watch, but would take walter payton because he had power, speed, and agility. If I was to play one game and had to have one back it would be payton because he hardly ever took negative yards. I think sanders had the most negative plays of anyone ever. That kills drives.

I dont know why this thread was bumped.
Anyways, even if you don't consider him anywhere near the greatest, he is a damn fine RB. Not only that, but who had ever heard of him out of TCU and the Chargers drafted him 5th overall. We got pretty lucky with that pick. I get goosebumps when I think of some of the things he did. 31 TDs in a season? Thats amazing. |
