tattoo artists in kc

anyone had really good luck with a tattoo place in kc? looking to get my first (and very likely only) tattoo, but i don't know any of the places and know even fewer of the "good" places.

Tattoos are for sorority girls. Let me brand you, I'll do it for free.

I'm looking at getting my first and am also curious/skeptical of where to go. I looked at the gallary of Inkslingers and thier stuff looked like crap. Maybe its just hard to judge people against the Miami Ink artists.

um...no the art in any tattoo shop should be high quality...I have seen some extremely shitty tattoos come out of KC.

My wife got her tattoo at Irezumi. I would go back there for myself.

I've gotta pimp a buddy of mine from MHK. His name is Robert Miller, from Stray Cat Tattoo in Manhattan, KS. He has done some of the best B&W tats I've ever seen. He's won lots of awards and has been featured in several tattoo mags. He has people drive from all over the US to come back and gets tats from him.

Here's a few links with some of his work....

That is pretty damn good work. I think I could travel to K-state town for that.

And honestly, I'm a little disappointed in the pics they've got on the website. I've seen a lot of the work he's done in person, and most these pics don't do them justice. The guy is truly talented...

Mine done at SkinIllustrations in Lawrence....

Artist there who specializes in firefighter tats....

Very clean shop

Tats are like Lasik. Not a time to search for "cheap and convenient".

I had my Tat's done at Irezumi. There are two locations on off Westport Road and the other is at 83rd and Wornall. Both shops have great artists and are reputable. I recommend the Westport Road location only because that is where I had mine done at. Stormy is the artist I usually recommend to anyone but Bob and Steve are also good. My advise to you is figure what Tat you want and visit a shop talk to a few artists and see how they feel about it. Ask questions about where you want to have the Tat placed at, the cost, the cleanliness, how long they have been tattooing and what ever else you can think of. Also most artists at any shop should have a portfolio you can look through to see their work before you make any decisions.

Boy that's one hell of a website they've got there.

never had a tat... but my sister used to hang with Wes Grimm back in the day. It used to be that Grimm's was THE tattoo shop in KC.

Fly O.T. McWall 06-12-2007 07:13 PM

believe me, i'm not looking to cheap out. this is very likely my only tattoo, so i want it to be not only good, but great.
