Young Girl has Intestines Forcibly Removed in Pool Accident

Quote:

http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,288182,00.html

MINNEAPOLIS — A six-year-old girl has been hospitalized after a horrifying accident at a swimming pool, when she sat on an open drain and a powerful suction pump tore out part of her intestinal tract. A surgeon told the family Wednesday that part of her intestines had been lost.

Uhh, #1 Ouch. #2, how the **** is this physically possible?

Bugeater 07-06-2007 08:27 PM

I'll bet she doesn't have the guts to try that again.

Donger 07-06-2007 08:28 PM

Yet another horrible example of this. I understand that this girl, while alive, basically had to have all of her intestines removed. She will have to be fed via IV the rest of her life and have a colostomy bag.

Don't.

It's taking me a while to digest this story.

Besides, there are way less intestine-related puns.

BigRock 07-06-2007 08:33 PM

I've heard of that happening before, but I always thought it was like an urban legend. Good God.

She was sitting on the drain. If it's similar to the other cases I've heard of, the suction pulled her intestines out from her... you know where.

HolmeZz 07-06-2007 08:34 PM

Really crappy story.

Yeah, that's all I got for an intestines joke.

I knew a girl who shit out her intestines one time or partially came out I guess I should say. She said it happened when she was like 5 yrs old.

Discuss Thrower 07-06-2007 08:37 PM

So, is there something defective with children's digestional tracts? I mean I had a hole in my stomach as a kid and I had a steady diet of karo syrup too loosen things up, but I never had any problem to that severity..

Donger 07-06-2007 08:39 PM

Pool drains can exert ~300 PSI. If you happen to sit on one, this will happen.

It's simple. If the drain cover is removed, that's it.

Smed1065 07-06-2007 08:52 PM

But it was not here fault IMO.

My parents done worse but I am tuff..............

No kidding, if it's that dangerous there should be some way to cage off the area around the drain so no one gets close to it.

elvomito 07-06-2007 10:05 PM

it takes a lot of intestinal fortitude for you people to come in here and poke fun at this young girl's loss.

Isn't this the same type of case Edwards sued over?
And people still don't know about these things? Or there are still no security procedures made known?
This is such a tragedy...my heart goes out to the parents and girl.

... You know, I usually am one to revel in dark humor in these situations, usually when the hapless victim places himself in such a position, but knocking puns at the expense of a ****ing six year old girl is beyond tactless. It's pure, unadulterated, white trash.

So, there's an age limit now? You can't make a joke about anyone under the age of 7? 16? 21? 47?

I mean, yeah, sucks for her, but come on.

ChiefFan31 07-07-2007 02:00 AM

Okay....one question. Wouldn't you realize that something was wrong?

I mean, one would have to think it would hurt pretty bad if your intestines were sucked outta your Ahnoose.

KCChiefsMan 07-07-2007 02:10 AM

Here's the same principal at work only at a much higher level of intensity
Six thousand feet below sea level, a robotic saw cuts through an undersea pipeline. The saw is cutting a 3 mm (0.1 in) wide gap in the pipe. The pressure inside of the pipe is 0 psi, while the pressure in the surrounding water is 2700 psi (1.3 tons/square inch).

My rule is by height, kind of like getting to ride that tall tower thing at amusement parks.

Actually, these types of accidents happen on a regular but infrequent basis. I've actually read a nearly identical story several years ago, and then the same thing happened to an elderly lady in an airline bathroom once. These are not pleasant situations for anyone involved.

There are also supposed to a MINIMUM of two drains so that if one becomes plugged this won't happen.

6-yr old boy + woodchipper = 200 posts of puns.

6-yr old girl + pool drain = righteous hate and indignation.

Ummm...okay.

Well its good to know that our moral compass around CP hasn't gone completely down the drain...

I think I might actually be a repressed serial killer.

She actually died 9 months later due to complications (some sort of cancer) attributed to her organ transplants.

Her parents won an $8M settlement from the golf club where the pool was.

Minnesota passed swimming pool safety legislation in her name in 2008.
