What's up with our #1?

Haven't been around much...
Haven't heard a darn thing about where they are in the "negotiations".
Anybody have an update?

Direckshun 07-30-2007 07:42 AM

Hooray for new threads.

Scaga 07-30-2007 08:03 AM

Yeah...silly me for trying to get football news on this board.
I should know better. :shake:

Bowe is our last pick to remain unsigned. Reportedly, he wants to base his contract on the pick in front of him (Quinn, who is reportedly seeking top ten money even though he was selected in the 20s) so his quick arrival is questionable. It is a shame, because he is missing camp and will likely hurt his chances to start immediately and make any significant impact this year.

DeezNutz 07-30-2007 08:50 AM

Frank Boal just said that Bowe's people won't even talk to the Chiefs about money until Quinn gets signed, so this doesn't look real good. With the 24th pick signed and thus the slotting nearly set, this goes on the player, IMO. Does he want to play football or not?

Eleazar 07-30-2007 08:51 AM

Same thing as every year.

RealSNR 07-30-2007 08:54 AM

Carl told Bowe to STFD and STFU. Bowe is pissed, and is pulling an Elway. We're trading his rights away to Oakland for a 6th rounder in exchange for Terdell Sands.

True. But Boal's comment was interesting to me because it seems to shift the fault away from Carl, whom most of the fans are quick to blame. A long holdout for a late first-round pick is a bit much.

the Talking Can 07-30-2007 08:57 AM

holding out when you're the #23 pick is just ****ing stupid...

Quinn falling has nothing to do with Bowe.

big disappointment

You would think the agents would know the big money comes with the 2nd contract. And the more Bowe does while under his 1st contract is going to effect that 2nd one. The smart thing to do IMO would be to sign the #23 slotted 5 year deal, get on the field as a rookie, and start making a case for the big bucks in 4 or 5 years instead of haggling over a few hundred thousand bucks now.

Get in quickly, make a strong enough case and you don't even have to wait 4 years. Of course, that is slipping away a bit more each day.

Agreed. Bowe's agents clearly don't seem to have his best interests in mind, and, ironically, what's best for him will ultimately be best for the agents.

The whole Quinn thing is a pain. He isn't getting top ten money, but the Browns did put themselves in somewhat of an awkward negotiating position by trading next year's #1 for him, which suggests that they value him more than 22, so Bowe's folks want to wait this thing out.

Bowe=Bust

Unless Bowe's agent can show that KC's offer doesn't fit into the slot, it is all on Bowe.

Splat420 07-30-2007 09:30 AM

The agent works for the player if D-Bo wanted to be in came D-Bo would be in camp I blame the player not Carl this time around.

jAZ 07-30-2007 09:33 AM

Can't blame the agent for doing this, as slotting is slotting and if Quinn breaks the slotting, Bowe gains some leverage.

That said, if an NFL rookie is willing to put his future career in the hands of another player (if Quinn doesn't sign, we don't talk to you)... that's a mistake. One that in reality, I think they would avoid. There is some date after which, they know they need to get in camp... or at least speak to the team. My guess is 2 weeks. Then if Quinn is still holding out, they step up and say let's get this done.

StcChief 07-30-2007 09:36 AM

It's all on the player.

kcfanintitanhell 07-30-2007 09:44 AM

Isn't Ethan Locke Bowe's agent? The same guy that was responsible for the John Tait STFD outburst?

While true the agent works for the player, it seems as if the players take the advise of the agent. More of a two way street if you asked me.

cmh6476 07-30-2007 10:24 AM

fock you brady quinn

el borracho 07-30-2007 10:26 AM

On a related note, the Browns just keep ****ing us, don't they?

I hope you don't mean Bowe+our 6th for Sands. Please say it's Bowe for Sands+their 6th.
