Trader Joes

Anybody been there? $2.00 bottles of wine, which has recently beat out a 100.00 dollar bottle Ruffino contest entry. Other gourmet goodies as well, such as pepper corned hard salami, cheeses, organics, chocolates, coffees etc.

El Jefe 08-01-2007 12:33 PM

Yep got one, at Easton the biggest mall in America and it's ours, only in the big CO. no not colorado Columbus

BIG_DADDY 08-01-2007 12:33 PM

Good stuff at GREAT prices. You can get all kinds of good deals on their wine. The only down side is the line. Go early

oaklandhater 08-01-2007 12:34 PM

Longest lines on earth or at least where I live.

NewChief 08-01-2007 12:35 PM

Went while in Santa Fe this year. It is definitely all it's cracked up to be. Caters perfectly to the tastes of my wife and I (we snack as often as we eat huge meals).

Simply Red 08-01-2007 12:36 PM

Very quick here in Atlanta, they've hired plenty of help. Never have a prob. checking out. The only problem I have is cart managing (tight space.) FWIW, the wine is actually $2.50 now.

Simply Red 08-01-2007 12:39 PM

Currently I'm eating their chocolate covered banana chips, they're splendid.

I didn't mean to say "splendid." It felt very unnatural to type that.

Must be shipping or tax. I think it's still $2 out here.

bkkcoh 08-01-2007 12:43 PM

They have chocolate covered cherries that are pretty good. :toast:

el borracho 08-01-2007 12:44 PM

Yeah, "2 Buck Chuck" is good stuff.

Great grocery store. The only thing they are lacking is good produce, at least near me. They have some fruits and veggies, but not a huge selection.

They have an awesome dessert there called Mochi. I highly recommend it.

Trader Joe's rules. I've been shopping there since I moved from Kansas 14 years ago. They have great prices on alcohol but their food products are excellent.

Try the hummus, TJ's brand almonds, cashews and pistachios (all unsalted) along with many of their frozen foods and tortilla chips (they even have a tortilla chip that's a laxative - it's healthy and tasty).

I greatly prefer TJ's to Whole Foods. And it's much less expensive.

MUCH less than Whole Paycheck.

Yeah I bought a tortilla chip there which had poppy-seed baked/fried into the body of the chip, it was different.

Quality stuff at real values without having to buy a truckload of it like at Costco. I'm partial to the olives, salsas, and many of the marinades and sauces.

fan4ever 08-01-2007 01:26 PM

Oh, but of course Costco has a much larger supply of augmented women who shop there, so they have that going for them (at least here in Scottsdale).

Simply Red 08-01-2007 01:26 PM

Olives rock. Recently I learned that I have high blood press. so the olives will have to be minimized. Kalamata are the best ever.

fan4ever 08-01-2007 01:30 PM

Crap, you just spoiled them for me too. I got HBP too, checked the jar, and only two of those are 10% of your daily sodium. Maybe if you eat the garlic stuffed ones, it'll counter the sodium ;>)

cdcox 08-01-2007 01:43 PM

I've never been to a Trader Joe's. But has anyone ever been to Jungle Jim's in Cincinnati? Huge beer and wine selection, huge international food section, produce, meat, seafood, cooking classes, live fish tanks, etc. etc.

You can get a basic idea from their web site, but you have to go to get the full experience.

Never been to Cincinnati. Is it any better than Cleveland?

Never been to Cleveland, but Cincinnatti looks like a decent town, other than the fact that it is full of Bengals fans.

Try those in some vanilla ice cream. Option: add dry roast peanuts.

Pitt Gorilla 08-01-2007 02:52 PM

I love Trader Joe's, but the closest one to me is 3 hrs away in Minneapolis. It's like I live on the Ingall's farm or something.

Mr. Flopnuts 08-01-2007 07:23 PM

There is a Trader Joe's on damn near every street corner in my neck of the woods. They're all busy. They're just that damn good.

88TG88 08-01-2007 08:35 PM

I'll go there tomorrow and check it out. I'm in Santa Barbara and all groceries are expensive to the midwest!

Mojo Rising 08-01-2007 11:25 PM

2 Buck Chuck is cheap. It is equivalent to a $6 Safeway wine. Far better than Nightrain and Mad Dog. However, it is not good.

If you are going to drink wine then spend the $15+ for a good bottle and enjoy it. Otherwise, drink beer.

Baby Lee 01-03-2010 02:11 PM

Rockin' their Tom Yum Cashews. Yep as good you would imagine. Cashews coated with Tom Yum Spices, Lemon Grass, Thai Lime, Onion, Garlic, Red Pepper and Fish Sauce. Sweet, savory and hot all at once.

Stewie 01-03-2010 02:14 PM

Isn't TJ owned by Aldi's?

Acquired from the founders by the same trust that owns Aldis, yes.

Reaper16 01-03-2010 03:06 PM

The lack of a Trader Joe's in the KC area is perhaps the city's biggest flaw apart from the murder rate.

JD10367 01-03-2010 03:12 PM

We have both Trader Joe's and Aldi's. TJ is awesome, sort of like Whole Foods but not as expensive. Aldi's is great for cheap shit.

Not a 2 buck chuck fan, but I think you can fine some damn good wine at Safeway for $10 or less. BV cabernet for $7-$8 bucks is damn good if you ask me. Also the Bogle is $10 or $11 bucks.

BigOlChiefsfan 01-03-2010 05:15 PM

There's a 'facebook' group that used to regularly ask it's members to contact TJ's to open a store in KC. The chain indicated some interest, per a blurb in the KC Star - they went so far as to mention the 135th and state line area as a potential location (MO store = wine sales. Thank you Carrie Nation and your POS liquor laws in Kansas). But - the group indicated that TJ's don't think the distributor that currently serves St. Louis can also service KC, and they're looking at creating a new 'hub'. That puts us on the back burner. Soon, but not now. It's a damn shame.

CaliforniaChief 01-03-2010 05:38 PM

Mandarin Orange Chicken FTW!!!!! (It's in the frozens)
