Q: What's the "A" in "A-Rod" stand for?

A: "April."

cadmonkey 10-09-2007 09:33 AM

I heard an interesting stat today. Baba Booey, on the Stern Show this morning, said that since the last time the Yankees won the World Series Stienbrenner has spent over $1.4 billion.

Good times.

I really have trouble getting over this. My oldest son is 6. In his lifetime:

1. Yankmes have never won a WS.
2. Red Sox have won the WS.
3. Patriots have won 3 Super Bowls.
4. Celtics suck, Suck, SUCK.
5. Bruins have sucked so bad for so long it's not even worth talking about.

To say that his childhood isn't QUITE like mine in the sports department is quite the understatement...

StcChief 10-09-2007 09:49 AM

No Yankmes or Mets.... good playoffs for once. :thumb:

No battery throwing fans in Philly either....

anybody else is fine

Now hopefully Cleveland will dispatch the Yankmees North, and all will be right with the world. :thumb:

There is a good chance of that happening. They have a fully rested Sabathia and Carmona for the first two games. If they split in Boston, I don't see why Cleveland can't take both home games, then pull out one more in Boston.

yeah. I forgot about Red Stockings

hopefully Cleveland can beat them too. Their Bambino curse is broken after beating our Cards.....

time for LaRusa to go and bring in X-Card Joe Torre. keep developing our young talent and get some pitching.

Why the hell does everybody want Torre all of a sudden? He didn't do anything when he was in St. Louis the last time. And for years he couldn't win anything in New York with almost limitless Yankmee resources.

I don't want him.

Congrats to the Indians, too bad there isn't any Indian fans here. just bitter jealous Yankee haters. ;)

I want the house cleaned!

Message to Derek Jeter, you can try and do something other than hit into double plays, just sayin'

****ing heir shickelgruber! go with the kids and show the Royals how you do it with the farm system, because after 20 years they still can't figure that out! hahaha! PBJ

If a guy driving a car with a 12-cylinder engine races a guy driving a car with a 6-cylinder engine, and wins, he doesn't win because he's the better driver.

And pointing that out doesn't make one bitter.

Take it away, Ken Tremendous and the FJM crew:

Sigh.

Just to short-circuit this whole argument:

Alex Rodriguez, last three years: 1778+ AB, .945 OPS. In September: 291 AB, .995 OPS.

And: drum-roll, please...

This September: .333/.419/.730/1.149.
I am not making this up, people. This idiot is claiming that Alex Rodriguez's bat has gone cold, in a month where he has a ****ing .730 SLG and an OPS of 1.149, with 8 HR in 63 AB.

His bat has gone cold. He has an OPS of 1.149.

Justify this, New York Post. I will give you a billion dollars if you can justify this claim.
. . .
I have been Groundhog Day-ing this exact article all effing year, and allow me to say, here, in late September: I hope -- I pray -- that ARod fails miserably in the playoffs, because I dislike his team. And I hope that Yankee Stadium boos him mercilessly, because I want him to leave that team, because he is the best hitter in baseball. I am also interested in what happens if he has a repeat of the 2004 ALCS, where he goes like 8-31 or something...not great, not terrible. Because I think what would happen is: people would savage him anyway. In fact, if he goes 15-20 in the ALDS and the Yankees lose, I think the media would still write that he "still hasn't led his team to victory," and I would find that immensely pleasurable.

Annnd just for completeness' sake, here's a postscript.

The Yankees won the world series in 1996 without a huge payroll, just sayin' it can be done. they key is keeping heir shickelgruber out of baseball operations, and bringing Stick Michael back in. most Yankee fans don't like Steinbrenner, believe it or not.

I know it can be done. St. Louis did it last October. :)

Will definitely be a tough series.

How is the Indians' bullpen? One good thing about our hitters -- even when they don't pound the starter, they usually work the counts and can get the guy out of there by the 6th or, at worst, 7th inning, and then we can make inroads into their 'pen.

If you didn't see it already, there's several good articles today in the Herald about both Francona and the expected Red Sox rotation in this series.

So what in hell is going on with he Jets? I thought they were overrated and would do worse this year than last, due to the harder schedule, etc., but I wasnt' exactly predicting the 4-12 track that they're currently on.

AFC East is a pathetic joke with one obvious exception. Never thought I'd see the day...

Chad Pennington is a gawd awful ****ing QB that needs to be put back in pee wee. Mangini has to put Clemens in NOW or he will lose the team.

Season's not over yet, if they lose to the Eagles it is, though.

chiefsfan987 10-09-2007 01:52 PM

Nah, the witch is still alive. Boston is still in the playoffs. They're no better than the Yankees when it comes to trying to buy a world series. The only difference is they're worse at it than NY.

Who's going to be the 4th starter?
