2007: LJ could be out a while. Possible long term injury?
Consider this a rumor.
Again I'm not saying this is fact but someone who has told me medical "stuff" about Chiefs players in the past and it has turned out to be true told me this. LJ has a garden variety sprained ankle but thats not worrying the Chiefs or LJ. They think its his foot thats is the real concern and specifically worst case scenerio Plantar Fasciitis or a pulled ligment in the foot. It happened when LJ tryed to pull on his foot when it was under Hawk and stretched that muscle on the bottom of his foot and in the arch. It could take 3-4 weeks of rest or in rare cases to a year to recover. But until the swelling goes down they won't know for sure. Again just FYI passing it along. |
The PF (or a Lis Franc) crossed my mind Sunday. I almost posted it on the game thread as a semi-joke, but thought better of it.
|
Just our luck. We should have known this would happen as soon as Carl signed the deal. I swear, sometimes I think we are the most fucked up team of all times.
FAX |
I stated this yesterday based on my previous injury expierence and the video replay of the hit.
|
Better let him heal up. This team isnt going anywhere but a first round playoff exit again this year if we even make it that far....
|
Priest isn't coming back. :)
|
Exactly what I told my wife when she called on the drive home.
If he has even a mild plantar fasciitis injury, he'll be out the rest of the year, IMO. Or at minimum, ineffective. Putting weight on it is hard enough, but pushing off and cutting would be excruciating. :banghead: |
Sit down LJ. Rest up.

If in fact it is a PF injury, they tend to linger without the proper rest and treatment. I want him ready to go at 100% next summer, not limping around because Carl wanted to make sure to win that 8th game. |

How different is this from a pulled groin? Or a pulled bicep muscle? |

http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=3096101 Broncos quarterback Jay Cutler doesn't have the hairline fracture in his left leg he feared. An MRI on Monday was negative, but coach Mike Shanahan said he didn't know if Cutler would practice much this week or be under center Sunday at Kansas City. "He doesn't have a stress fracture, which is a positive," Shanahan said. "The X-rays were negative, the MRI was negative. So, we'll see how sore he is. Right now he's quite sore. And we'll get a chance to see how he feels on Wednesday." Cutler, who declined to comment Monday, took a helmet to his lower leg, which was badly bruised, in the first half of the Broncos' 44-7 loss at Detroit on Sunday. He was carted off the field and although immediate X-rays were negative, Cutler said he feared his leg was broken. |

I've read about people taking 18 months to fully heal. Obviously, it's a case by case basis, but everything I've read says 4-6 weeks minimum. |

Cutler will be fine come Sunday. We'll be the ones's shorthanded when we play Sunday.

Can Priest recapture the magic?
|
I see Kolby Smith gettting a healthy dose of carries as well.

i love how some are talking like THIS will keep us out of the playoffs. if what i'm reading about this PF injury on here is true, i hope LJ spends a few months on his couch in his NY condo. he can have Jay-Z over and they can lay down some tracks. as long as he rests that foot, i don't care what he does or where he goes. there is ABSOLUTELY NO REASON TO BRING HIM BACK this season. we'll lose enough that we'll be out of the race, so that maybe, just maybe, croyle could get some experience. if we rush him back, it could linger into NEXT season, which according to some around here, is what we're really playing for anyways.

1-3 weeks was said on 38thespot

On the bright side, LJ will have more time to work on his rap career.

if it's Lis franc then it's big trouble
seems like it's 50/50 on career ending |
I hate the fact LJ will probably be out AT LEAST a month...but man, I'm excited for the Priest...I bashed him for 2005 but watching last week MAN I forgot how much I loved PRIIIIIEST HOOOOLMES!

This hurts though...I love LJ...that flag spike was really something. Hopefully it's a 2-3 week thing...I hope Priest has the endurance to be THE guy.

How many points do you get for a big spike? |
Larry soon-to-be-eating-nachos Johnson coming to a town near you!!
|
dude LJ played with some serious heart yesterday...it was great to see...
|
I heard LJ was only out for a week, tops.

is there a picture of the flag spike? that was a great moment, i wish it would have come in a win.
|
In SD we got some sports radio honk from Philly, who is supposedly close to the "King" himself Carl. And he made it sound that LJ's injury, was one of those week to week deals.
|
Is this the ligiment in the arch of your foot? or the muscle in the arch of your foot?
I pulled that, actually a minor tear playing fast pitch softball.. Running to first and stepped in a small hole on the back side of the bag... I couldnt walk for a couple of days nor play softball for well over 18 months.. I kept re-agravating it so easily... I am no where near the athlete LJ is.. Just a fat beer drinking softball player... But I assume it will be hard for him to come back and very painful, that I can atest to... |

If Priest and Kolby do well, I gaurantee you LJ misses just this week, tops.
|
Glad I picked up Priest off the waiver wire today....
|
I'm sure LJ is chillaxen right now.
|
well let's find out why we drafted Kolby Smith
|
OK Priest, it's time to take the diaper off and go out there and play. It's time that you earn that money ........

I was half expecting to see some kind of Theisman-like injury, hopefully its like when that Bungle appeared to rip his head off...not as bad as it looked. |
LJ needs to suck it up and get ready for Denver so we can win now. Screw what's best for the long term.
|
Well, looks like sunday will be Hooties last day...

Ouch.. Nice knowing you Hootie... Hopefully he is a man of his word.... |
I stayed at a Holiday Inn Express last night and i think that LJ will be out for more than a couple of weeks. :)
FWIW, I had plantar fascitus (sp) and it took a very long time to heal, especially with me working on my feet all day long every day. It took every bit of 8 months to heal without any real therapy. |

I've had a plantar wart. That ****er hurt.
|
It didn't really look to me like the bottom of Larry's foot was the part that got injured, BTW. That's where the plantar ligament is. It looked to me like the top and side of Larry's foot got wrenched and twisted, which would mean a sprain or maybe some cartilage got ****ed or something.
|
Plantar Fasciitis is something that is more chronic and related to long term standing and weight bearing.
It's much more likely that it's a Lis Franc injury. That's the injury that pretty much ended Duce Staley's career, but Kevin Jones only missed a year...but those are Lis Franc Fractures and dislocations From wiki: At present, such an injury happens typically when one steps into a hole and the foot twists heavily. Falling from a height of two or three stories can also cause this fracture. American football players commonly get this injury when they have their foot pointing down and someone lands on their heel. There are also other ways of receiving such an injury. Treatment Treatment options include operative or non-operative treatment. If the dislocation is less than 2mm, the fracture can be managed with a POP(plaster of Paris) or dynacast for 6 weeks. The patient's injured limb cannot bear weight during this period. For operative treatment, percutaneous screws +/- k-wire will be used for internal fixation of the fracture. Again, the patient's injured limb cannot bear weight. The screws/k-wires must be removed before weight bearing. |
This looks like what happened to Larry, unfortunately:

WOW. I never knew there were SOOOOOOOO many doctors on here. Sweet.
Freakin' know-it-alls. :) |

I read on Warpaint last week that LJ's injury was the Plantar Fasciitis. Sometimes that place amazes me.
