Nebraska selects Pelini as new HC
http://sports.espn.go.com/ncf/news/story?id=3135858
Sources: Nebraska to name LSU defensive coordinator Pelini as coach By Pat Forde ESPN.com Barring any last-minute snags, LSU defensive coordinator Bo Pelini will be introduced as the new head coach at Nebraska early next week, multiple sources confirmed Friday. Pelini will coach the Tigers defense Saturday in the SEC championship game against Tennessee and, according to a source close to the situation, will be in Lincoln for an announcement Monday. Pelini and Buffalo coach Turner Gill were believed to be Tom Osborne's final two choices to replace fired Bill Callahan. Both have Nebraska ties -- Gill as a former player under Osborne and coach under Frank Solich, and Pelini as a former defensice coordinator under Solich. The move further complicates LSU's postseason. Head coach Les Miles is expected to meet with Michigan Wolverines early next week about its head-coaching vacancy. LSU is making an effort to keep Miles, but he's a Michigan alum who has often voiced his affection for the Wolverines program. Pat Forde is a senior writer for ESPN.com. He can be reached at [email protected]. |
Nice. We simul-posted.

They should have never gotten rid of him.
I wonder if he'll bring Turner Gill in as the offensive coordinator. |

http://www.shreveporttimes.com/apps/...028/SPORTS0202 Keep an eye on Missouri coach Gary Pinkel. If the power brokers at Michigan and LSU (in case Miles leaves) were watching television over the weekend, Pinkel is certainly one of the the hottest prospects out there. Pinkel, 54, has turned around a perennial mediocre program at Mizzou and has it on the verge of a national championship. He also won at Toledo. Pinkel may not be a Michigan man, but he's an Ohio man like former Michigan coach Bo Schembechler. |

not sure how this is related but i heard on espn today that joe paterno's base salary is only 500K i thought that was kinda lame for a coach that has been a program forever. I think Mangino makes more than that.

From LJS blog:
Pelini denies ESPN report ESPN has just reported that LSU defensive coordinator Bo Pelini is the next coach at Nebraska. Here's what was reported by ESPN: "Barring any last-minute snags, LSU defensive coordinator Bo Pelini will be introduced as the new head coach at Nebraska early next week, multiple sources confirmed Friday." The Journal Star just reached Pelini by phone. He denied the report. "I honestly don't know where they're getting their information," he said. Stay tuned. |
I'm sure it's a done deal, I bet he just doesn't want his players thinking about it this weekend.

That's good to hear. I was worried that they would get someone like Spurrier.
|
I'm pondering a username change to Go Bo, I think it's available.
|
I just hope Les "foot in mouth" Miles stays. It's going to be fun watching that idiot destroy everything Saban built up.

I hope it's true. I was worried they'd hire Gill.

Who the hell's Bo Pelini? I'm still the head coach of this team. I've done an excellent job in every respect of every area of this football team. I can't believe my supervisor would pull this kind of prank.

His LSU defense only gave up 50 last week.
|
As a Mizzou fan I could not be more happy they got Bo. He is overrated as a D coordinator and will make for an average coach. He was given a D stocked with talent this year and underachieved. NU fans only suck this guy off because he took their D from being crap one year to being the 11th best D in the nation. That year MU hung 41 and Texas hung 31 on that Bo lead D.
If Bo had never been at NU in 2003 would be even be an option. Hell several teams turned him away last year when he was interested. Bring on Bo! |

For all the people beating the inexperience drum, Tom Osborne had no head coaching experience when Bob Devaney hired him in 1973.
|
The press conference is at 4 p.m. Marvin Sanders is rumored to join Pelini's staff. The NU defense led the nation in interceptions in 2004 when Sanders coached the secondary. I'm looking forward to seeing the DBs get the receiver's face instead of giving them a cushion.

I have no head coaching experience either... maybe they should hire me. Clearly I'd kick ass, because Tom Osborne did. LMAO I'm not saying your coach won't do well... just that it's an argument that has no merit. |

I love the Bo bashing. I guess you ass clowns never knew he was the coach for the Alamo Bowl game when we dominated MSU. This is a very good hire.

Thanks for telling me what I meant. It's like saying about Croyle, "Hey, Joe Montana was a 3rd round pick too!" So what? It has no bearing on anything. I'm not trying to be an asshole... I'm just pointing out that it's a silly thing to say. It's not just you, people pull the same crap all the time. |
