Chiefs promote DE from practice squad.

DE KHREEM SMITH PROMOTED TO 53-MAN ROSTER, HARRIS ADDED TO PS

Kansas City Chiefs President Carl Peterson announced on Wednesday that the club has agreed to terms of a three-year contract with DE Khreem Smith, adding him to the club’s 53-man roster from the practice squad. Per Chiefs policy, no other terms of the agreement were made available. In addition, Kansas City added S Erick Harris to the club’s practice squad.

Smith (6-3, 254) originally joined the Chiefs practice squad on September 3rd. He entered the NFL in 2004 as a rookie free agent with Baltimore, but was released prior to the start of the regular season. Smith signed with Minnesota a year ago and spent the first 16 weeks of the 2006 campaign on the Vikings practice squad, before being promoted to the active roster for the final week of the season. Smith also attended training camp with the Vikings in 2007, but was released on September 2nd. Prior to entering the NFL, Smith saw duty in 2006 with the Chicago Rush of the Arena Football League and the Memphis Xplorers of Arena2 in 2005.

A native of Miami, Florida, Smith was named second-team All-Big 12 as a senior at Oklahoma State in 2003. He played three seasons for the Cowboys after transferring from Garden City (KS) Community College. Smith prepped at Carol City High School in Miami.

Harris (5-11, 208) began his professional football career in Arena2 as a member of the Amarillo Dusters in 2005 and Alabama Steeldogs in 2006. He also played with the Rhein Fire of NFL Europa in the spring of 2006. Harris entered the NFL when he was signed to Philadelphia’s practice squad at the conclusion of the 2006 season and remained there for the balance of the postseason. He attended training camp with Philadelphia in 2007, but was released prior to the start of the regular season. Harris returned to the Eagles practice squad for one week on November 11th.

Harris originally began his collegiate career as a wide receiver at Liberty University and prepped at Crestview High School in Crestview, Florida.

I can see the chiefs looking for a SS after this season and moving pollard to OLB.

I brought this up with my brother... he made fun of me. Pollard is one hell of a hitter, and okay in coverage, but not good enough to play safety (yet at least). He is the same size, if not bigger, as Donnie Edwards. Id still like to see him succeed as a SS... it would be nice to see the 2 biggest safeties killing people every week, but not at the expense of coverage.

I think it fits, they are moving Jared Allen to offense since he already has the defensive gig figured out. Put 50 on Jared and we have our new left tackle.

Been saying that for awhile now.

They put the wrong Harris on the PS.

I think this says way more about Wilkerson than it does about Hali.

Jeez, dude. Our defensive tackles aren't playing well lately, but they aren't that bad. There's one DT on the practice squad. He'd probably just get completely dominated on every snap.

This is that time of year. I expect LJ and other injured players to be put on IR, and then we will promote practice squad players we want to protect to the active roster. Once we do that it makes it where other teams can't snipe them of the PS for 3 years. It's all stategy.

DT

where did the open spot on the roster come from???

Manila-Chief 12-05-2007 08:21 PM

They simply needed to fill Niswanger's spot and choose this guy rather than another. Unless Herm goes wild and starts playing all young players, he will never get onto the field.

Yep, emergency use only.

King_Chief_Fan 12-06-2007 09:00 AM

Hey Herm - this isn't Arena ball remember. Where are the NFL guys? What a shame that this team has come to be this bad.

But won't we have to have them on the roster next year also??? Meaning if they IR somebody like LJ they expect to bring back means we just have to cut them next year???
