Trade Offer

Playing Shack Harris (Jaguars GM) for awhile. Here's a trade offer to the Chiefs. Jaguars starting tackle Khalif Barnes (2005 second rounder from Oregon) for the Chiefs 2nd round pick. Barnes is a quality tackle but has had some off the field issues and appears to be tired of Jax and Jax tired of him. He would help start the rebuilding effort for the Chiefs and start from day one in Kansas City. If I were the Chiefs I would still draft a offensive lineman in the first round to go with Barnes and that would give them a great start at rebuilding their offensive line (I am one that believes that NFL games are won and lost up front). For the Jaguars with their first rounder I would draft a Defensive End and with either of their second rounders I would pick up a tackle and with the other I would go with a strong safety.

RealSNR 12-10-2007 09:35 AM

A better Oline prospect can be drafted by us than us trading for Barnes

RP_McMurphy 12-10-2007 09:42 AM

Key word

Is prospect. Do you go with a know quality in Barnes or do you take a risk with prospect (Carl taint exactly been hitting home runs in the draft lately).

If it was a 4th rounder, I might see why KC would do the deal.

RP_McMurphy 12-10-2007 09:44 AM

Fourth rounder.........you been smoking with Ricky and Travis? A quality NFL tackle for a second rounder doesn't come around much.

el borracho 12-10-2007 09:45 AM

No, I wouldn't spend a 2nd round pick on someone else's headache.

Especially with the dreaded "off the field trouble" label.

Yup, with the high pick we'll get this year (hopefully) our 2nd will be an extention of the 1st rnd.

This team has enough nutjobs on it, thanks.

Anyong Bluth 12-10-2007 09:52 AM

Chances are we're going to end up with a top 5 choice, and that means all our rounds choices will be bumped up that high. Giving up a 2nd rounder for him won't happen. No reason to give up a high choice with the prospect of getting a younger, possibly more talented, and cap-friendlier prospect.

This team isn't a few pieces away, so stick with drafting BPA through the draft, and pick up need players thru FA- even if you have to pay a bit more on the open market. For example, a guy like Lilja, KC native, is a 4 year vet and only 26. It's fairly safe to assume that he's got a min. of 8 solid years in him, but still enough that would make any contract he signs be worth it and just as he's entering his "prime" years.

I'd be more than willing to pay up for him b/c you know you've got a quality addition. With the roster turnover that should happen, paying a little more for sure bet FA's is worth it b/c the number of younger guys coming in will free up some cap space.

RP_McMurphy 12-10-2007 09:56 AM

I'll sweeten the pot a bit and throw in Matt Jones.

I'd rather you just throw in an appetizer sampler from that roadhouse BBQ in Excelsior.

Jones is one of the worst 1st round picks of the last 10 years, even though he was a mid-late pick. He makes Mike Mamula look like Zach Thomas.

Zouk 12-10-2007 10:02 AM

Pass.

I'd be more curious about your thoughts on Maurice Williams who will be unrestricted at the end of the year.

RP_McMurphy 12-10-2007 10:03 AM

Well his nickname in Jax is Mattloaf does that count?

RP_McMurphy 12-10-2007 10:05 AM

Maurice Williams is ok but seems to have lost some speed over the last few years. Tony Pashos has taken over his spot and done alot better for the Jaguars. If you can get him for a decent cap number I would go for it. He's more of a run blocker than a pass blocker at this point.

RedThat 12-10-2007 10:07 AM

I'd rather have the Chiefs keep the 2nd round pick.

RP_McMurphy 12-10-2007 10:09 AM

Gonna sweeten this pot some more..........want that high second. I'll thrown in the Jaguars extra fifth rounder.....basically three players for one.

ChiefsCountry 12-10-2007 10:17 AM

You are way overvaluing Barnes dude.

But they do if you want to get rid of him.. It is a buyers market with the way the league is structured now with trades.. Look at randy and some of the other deals.. first day picks are worth a ton, if we couldn't get a 1st for LJ last year what makes you think you can get a 2nd..

Unless you find a really stupid team like the niners..

RP_McMurphy 12-10-2007 11:34 AM

Guess you guys don't want a starting NFL tackle. Let me know how that current offensive line is working for you guys. How many broken down quarterbacks and running backs do you guys have now?

RealSNR 12-10-2007 11:37 AM

We'll trade you Boomer Grigsby for Barnes. How about that? Is that fair?

He does a mean radio show...

HolmeZz 12-10-2007 11:37 AM

Barnes was taken in the 2nd round and hasn't maintained that value.

How bout this trade. We'll send you Kyle Turley, Chris Terry and Kris Wilson and you can send us Maurice Jones-Drew and Reggie Nelson. We'll even throw in the conditional 7th round pick we got for Sims too. Seems to make sense to me.

RP_McMurphy 12-10-2007 11:40 AM

Nope.......but well take Jared Allen in free agency after Carl has mismanaged his CAP room to the point where he can't sign Allen even with a franchise tag (I see the only way to get Allen under CAP is to get rid of LJ or Gonzalez).

You do know the Chiefs have plenty of cap room this year so you can kiss that dream bye bye.

They have plenty of room to sign Allen, n00b.

Micjones 12-10-2007 11:49 AM

Only problem is... We're stuck with McIntosh.
I'd take Barnes to shore up the right side...

But I'd rather move McIntosh over and find a franchise LT in the Draft.

Jared Allen has as much chance of hitting free agency as any of us around here do of suiting up for an NFL game. Franchise DE's do not hit the market in their prime.

Anyong Bluth 12-10-2007 11:56 AM

WHF thinks we don't have enough cap room to sign JA?

I'm pretty sure we'ree about 9-12 mil under the cap this year. But, okay..

RP_McMurphy 12-10-2007 12:10 PM

Here's you problem with the CAP.......Eddie Kennison, Ty Law, Patrick Surtain, Kendrell Bell, etc. If you release them their signing bonus's go right into your 2008 CAP. So either sign Jared Allen to a longer term contract (after getting douched by Carl last off season do you think he really wants to deal with Carl) or franchise him and get at least a 8 million dollar CAP hit. So then you can't release players that I mentioned before or their signing bonus go against the 08 CAP. Kinda stuck here Chiefs........best thing would have been to sign him long term last spring instead of playing tough with him and trying to get the lowest dollar.

The kid doesn't know what he's talking about. He's never known that of which he speaks.

RP_McMurphy 12-10-2007 12:18 PM

No I did research...........you know those guys need to released if your going to rebuild. If you know the salary CAP if you release a player early the rest of their signing bonus goes right into your CAP that year. So moving some of the older players the Chiefs have will hard. Right now the salary CAP will go up around 7 million and the Chiefs are 11 million under for 07. However to release said players, sign FA's and rookies will be very hard.

Chris Terry is a "starting NFL tackle." Case closed.

Wrong is one thing..........and no I wasn't wrong if anything my numbers were within 1m of Pete King's numbers. I had them 11 over this year with a raise of 7. What got me is some punk hiding behind a computer calling names. However since his mom probably wants the computer I will let him have time.

Barnes just got in trouble about a month or so ago. He has a suspended license and he wrecked his car in his subdivision early one Saturday morning during the Jags bye week. He left his car at the scene and then decided to report his car stolen. Later on he changed his story and told the cops that he fell asleep behind the wheel and was supposedly headed to "therapy" at the stadium at 6:00 in the morning. At the scene, it was found that his car was actually heading back to his house and not to the stadium when he wrecked his car. The Jags officials never would confirm that there was any "therapy" scheduled for 6 in the morning and they were pretty tight lipped about the whole thing although it was pretty apparent that Barnes's story was full of holes.

More than likely he was out drinking, wrecked his car driving home drunk, and then decided to leave it at the scene to avoid DUI charges.
