Last one on TBS starts at 5 PM. After that is Family Guy! KA. This is starting to turn out to be a pretty damn good x-mas.

JuicesFlowing 12-25-2008 02:38 PM

The narrator's voice makes that movie classic.

love it when the mom shuts off the lamp on their way to get a Christmas tree, and comes out and says simply
"I don't want to waste electricity"

...meanwhile all the lights are still on inside the house.

One part of the movie that reminded me of my mom, was after Ralphie got done with the soap his mom said "go in your room lights off, and I better not finding you reading comic books". Then he obviously scowled at her, and she said "Dont you give me that look, your gonna get it". LMAO Thats my mom to a T.

the Dad in Christmas Story reminds me so much of my dad. Growing up my dad was always fixing stuff in the house, on the cars (AMC Hornet, and a few 1971 Cutlasses....seemed like we always had Cutlasses! My first car was a 442 lol).

my dad was remodeling/fixing up an old narly bathroom in the basement - I hear him sawing (yes...sawing...as in handsaw ) into the wall etc...then I hear him yelll "Aaaaaaa". I go down there (I'm probably 8) and he's 'taking a knee' on the floor etc, I ask him what happened and he said he cut into a power line lol. he shut off the power to the bathroom etc, but apparently the way the wiring was run for the other parts of the house, som 220 lines headed to the stove upstairs were still live. lol.

there are so many other stories of my dad cheating death...

my old man was fluent in obscenities too.

Rasputin 12-24-2009 10:29 AM

JD10367 12-25-2010 09:17 AM

This is a great film. How do you measure a great film? By how many times its lines are quoted in real life. There are dozens of quotes from this film that everyone knows, even small snippets. If you're wearing a big puffy winter coat and you stick your arms straight out and loudly whine, "I can't put my arms down!", they know what you're talking about. "Fra-gee-lay", "oh fudge", "you'll shoot your eye out", "I want a Red Ryder BB gun", etc.,. Classic.

Donna Reed. Major babe.

Archie F. Swin 12-25-2010 09:40 AM

I just recently discovered that the film's narrator is the author of the book that inspired the movie. Apparently there is a podcast of Jean Shepherd reading his book "In God We Trust (all others pay cash)" while he was a Cincinnati radio personality.

If you love the movie you'll love his storytelling.

Jean Shepherd was a radio legend. His style is imitated by Garrison Keillor somewhat as well.

Jean Shepherd wrote quite a few books, which are a delightful read.
