Who will be returning kicks next year?

Eddie Drummond made no friends in KC and "should" be gone next year. Never should have been here in the first place. :)

Kennison probably wont be back next year.

Webb sucked. I hated watching him kick return this year. Man... we really were spoiled by Dante and Vanover.

Do the Chiefs look around in free agency for a kick returner or do we draft one?

I don't know of anyone whom is hitting free agency that is a KR/PR and worth bringing in.

What about promoting from within and if so, who?

Sapp... perhaps pick Phin back up?

Eleazar 01-11-2008 08:53 PM

I've never been a huge fan of having a kick return specialist. Surely, if your team has any talent you should be able to find someone with enough speed and the physical tools to learn to do that without using an extra roster spot. Even Dante Hall could contribute in other ways.

Hopefully we will have some new talent at WR and DB so we'll be able to find someone.

And... it would be hard to find anyone worse.

Similar is... why do you need to have a kickoff specialist? Can't we find a kicker who is competent enough to kick the ball in two ways effectively? (Not that we've had a lot of luck finding a kicker who's even good at one of them...)

Or, a long snapper. Can't we get someone else to do it? Kendall Gammon was a fine player, not to take anything away from him, I can't remember us ever having a bad snap during his entire tenure, and that's worth something. But still.. what about the regular center?

Kylo Ren 01-11-2008 08:55 PM

Ty Law maybe? He's a CB.

SBK 01-11-2008 08:58 PM

Whoever it is they aren't on the roster right now.

FloridaMan88 01-11-2008 09:59 PM

Exactly.

Sure, he had a down year but Drummond kicked a lot of ass in the 90's. He deserves a chance to do it again.

Rasputin 01-11-2008 10:54 PM

It be cool if Fhinisee would come back, but why would he want too? All he did was do everything that was asked of him and he showed plenty of potential all for nothing. He showed quick burst, acceleration and abuility to dodge defenders. Just to be replaced by a guy who was cut by the LIONS.

DJJasonp 01-11-2008 10:55 PM

An undrafted rookie free agent from UCLA (who transferred after his senior year from San Diego State)

Yep, that pretty much sucked. The worst part, Herms handling of this, made me miss Dante Hall, and I didn't think that was possible.

jjchieffan 01-11-2008 11:28 PM

I would like to see Phinisee get another shot as well, but he is just sitting on the Rams practice squad, the season is over, and CeePee has yet to pick him back up, which makes me think that he probably won't. Too bad. He sure looked good returning kicks, and He is a CB who might be able to be developed. My guess is that we get someone in the draft.

Just get someone who can do kick returns, long snap and kickoff. One roster spot, three roles.

HIChief 01-12-2008 12:53 AM

Chad Owens-the flyin' Hawaiian

Chad Owens, a real burner, was waived today by the Jags to make room on the roster. He should be brought in to compete for the job. By the way, he can catch too.

stonedstooge 01-12-2008 09:21 AM

Kick returner

Try Jared Allen at it. He seems to be able to do everything else. And he long snaps too doesn't he?

I think the Phillippe-Darche find was a good one. Gammon was making a mint because of his tenure in the league and we found a younger, way cheaper replacement that can actually go downfield and make a tackle (check his special teams stats). I can't think of one time we thought about the snap in kicking situatuins, which means Darche was pretty reliable.

philfree 01-12-2008 10:33 AM

Hopefully the CB we draft will also have K/P return experience and while he is getting up to speed as a CB he'll help us n the return game. Or it could be a WR.

Despite 19 years of evidence... it was never more apparent that Carl had lost his touch (did he ever have it?) when week after week we had to watch Drummond run 7 yards and die... between that miscue the Oline the kicker situation, lack of depth and direction. He must have photos of Clark Hunt ****ing a donkey.

HIChief 01-12-2008 01:06 PM

My suggestion?

No Takers for Chad Owens, huh :spock: ? No one else has come up with any names yet. Come on people, this IS a good topic!

Agreed, he obviously has a 5 year plan that he has been wating to spring but the coach derailed it and thus set him back a year.

John Elway?

Buehler445 01-12-2008 06:41 PM

I dunno. I think they could put anybody back there and they could be better than Drummond. I say we put a rook back there. The vet strategy (Drummond) hasn't worked.

Halfcan 01-12-2008 06:44 PM

Drummond is not going anywhere, so shut the fug up you stoopid fans-Herm

beach tribe 01-12-2008 07:12 PM

I've always wondered why they haven't given Parker much of a shot back there. Maybe he's a muff liability.

blueballs 01-12-2008 07:58 PM

Parker takes some solid hits
and is no more turn over prone than other WRs
must not be able to catch it

clyde05 01-13-2008 01:09 AM

Andre davis is a free agent, he returned like 4 kick-offs for tds this year for texans, so thats my choice, drummond sucks!

Wasn't Chad Owens the kid that muffed like three punts in one game a couple years back? No, thanks. But since I can't offer any names off the top of my head right now...

He'd fall down when it looked like he was going to be hit.
