Interesting blurb about Vermeil...
from the St. Louis Post-Dispatch...
"To this day, Vermeil still grimaces at the thought of his summit (offseason) meetings with Rams brass. The meeting after a 4-12 finish in 1998 has taken on near-legendary proportions. As the story goes, Vermeil wanted Mike White as his offensive coordinator and Jeff Hostetler as his quarterback. He got Mike Martz and Trent Green instead, with the help of some arm-twisting from team management." http://www.stltoday.com/stltoday/spo...5?OpenDocument Meanwhile, Carl continues to let his head coaches hire who they want... |
Jeff Hostetler?? ROFL
He'd been in pr0n for 4 years by the time that season rolled around. |
The problem with the Chiefs is that Carl let DV pick the players. Shit Herm is a dream in terms of drafting players.

That's why he was supporting the pr0n mustache. |
Wow. Who knew Vermeil was so inept.

Good God, is this true?

I wonder what people see when they say he's a HOF coach. I see a record that's something like 10 games over .500 and a Lombardi Trophy that his offensive and defensive coordinators were 95% responsible for. |

I've mentioned it a couple of times here. Martz was forced on him. With Martz came Trent. |

This thread is ABSURD. Dick Vermeil poops brilliance and pisses excellence. Everything he does is art.

Hostetler was thirty-****ing-seven in 1998.
How dumb is Vermeil? Jeez. |

DV had Kurt Warner sitting on his bench in 1998 and stuck it out with Tony Banks

Well...At least Vermeil got to draft Lawrence Phillips like he wanted...so...

Peterson went after and signed Roaf, and jointly with DV went after Priest for a backup to Tony Richardson. |
If I remember right Vermil did't want to do the trade for Marshall Faulk either.

So let me get this straight. Carl hired Vermeil to regain his reputation after the Gun fiasco eventhough he knew he was a flawed coach. Then he made it worse and didn't properly oversee his choices for coaches (GRob) and players (Glenn Cadrez). I bet when Carl flew to DV's house and begged him to take the job he agreed to all of Dick's demands for total control over coaches and players. Carl did it hoping Vermeil might do well but also to save his own ass in public as at the time the King had lost control of KC's image and his own reputation needed saving. Remember Whitlock's article after the DV hire? Remember that interview at Carl's condo (while he was holding a big ass mixed drink) blabbering on about Vermeil and Superbowls? It makes perfect sense. He made the fans believe, made the Hunt's money and saved his own arse eventhough he knew the hire was imperfect and knowing DV needed oversight.

The front office with John Shaw (who's underrated in my opinion) was primarily responsible for the Greatest Show on Turf, not DV |

Get off DV's back, guys. Without DV, there is no Vince Papale! |

Then in 1999, they were able to get Faulk without giving up a 1st rounder. They ended up taking Holt with their 1st rounder. |

The Rams had 2 picks in the Top 10 of the 2nd round, IIRC. One went to Indy, the other was used for Dre Bly. |
