Redskins @ Chiefs predictions

Chiefs win this one. Marty's starters go out after the first quarter and we rack up a big lead in the 2nd quarter with our starters. Our defense looks good in the first half, but gives up bookoo rushing yards in the fourth. Marty realizes he's losing with about three minutes to go, and stops running the ball. They score a quick touchdown and for pride's sake they try an onside kick. We recover and run it down their throats with Cloud/Blaylock. Chiefs win 21-17.

Archie F. Swin 08-07-2001 08:50 AM

I predict Marty and his fans will spend most of the first quarter dreaming about what could have been during his days as the Head Coach of the Kansas City Chiefs. Especially after 2 seasons of Gun, Marty's gonna look about a foot taller.

I hope Dickie V leads the way in welcoming Marty back to Arrowhead.

Frankly, David Letterman could come to town in 'skins gear and be mistaken for Marty . . .

. . . . looks like I'm straying from the topic again :o

Logical 08-07-2001 09:55 AM

Redskins 17 Chiefs 16

This game will be more important to Marty in terms of the W so he will play his primary players longer. DV will want to be evaluating the talent of his team so quick exits for TG, TG, PH, TR and most of the o-line. Defense will play more (reason for low Redskins score. Kicking competition pushes field goals to the front for the Chiefs.

Bob Dole 08-07-2001 10:27 AM

Bob Dole predicts a bunch of big guys in matching uniforms will line up on one side of the field, while a bunch of big guys wearing a different uniform will line up on the other side. Much perspiring will ensue and grown men will fight over an oddly shaped ball. Mistakes will be made, points will be scored, people will observe and make merry. Someone will be declared the winner after 60 minutes of playing time, and Bob Dole really doesn't give a shit about the final score.

Bob have you stopped smoking?

Bob seems a little cranky today.

Bob Dole 08-07-2001 11:15 AM

Bob Dole's checking account wishes Bob Dole would quit, but no.

Bob Dole is just irritated that people keep interrupting Bob Dole's BB time. :D

Radar Chief 08-07-2001 11:16 AM

Remember when Marty used to tell us that he didn’t Game Plan for the Preseason?
I guess we’ll see about that.

ptlyon 08-07-2001 11:21 AM

My thoughts exactly Radar. "Oh God, don't show them all our tricks!"

Up the middle
Up the middle
Up the middle
Punt

Suprise!!!

Does anyone know DV's thoughts of PS games?

htismaqe 08-07-2001 11:24 AM

I predict that the Redskins win and KCJohnny spends the next week to week-and-a-half telling me and Titus that we were "wrong" about Marty... :D

Tribal Warfare 08-07-2001 11:28 AM

Skins- 17
Chiefs- 28

If it's in the old "Martyball" tradition this will be the score.

Clint in Wichita 08-07-2001 11:28 AM

You have GOT to be kidding me! Predictions for the FIRST PRESEASON GAME?!

I predict that the last 3 quarters will border on unwatchable, and that the final score won't matter one bit.

Hey, it's Chiefs football so give it a rest.

KCTitus 08-07-2001 11:31 AM

LMAO @ Parker.

HC_Chief 08-07-2001 08:29 PM

Jeff George is OUT. Hurt his arm in camp(shoulder actually). Add to that Steven Davis' injury and you have a KC rout.

Green will play into the second quarter.. put up big numbers, and KC's D will steamroll over a hapless Skins' O.

The backups will make it a close one in the second however.

KC: 24 Wash: 20

silveradoHD 08-07-2001 08:44 PM

I predict a close game but KC will win because their starters are more banged up than ours are. 24-21 most of the scoring will happen in the second half. Green will still throw a TD pass to Tony Gonzalos and it will look real pretty. I can't wait for the season to start. GO CHIEFS!!!!!!!!!!!:D

tommykat 08-07-2001 09:04 PM

Logical

I would agree with seeing Marty play his best players last...but the score??? Na...:p

steve_minor 08-08-2001 12:08 PM

Cheifs skin the Redskins

I have a feeling that DV will be aggressive with our starters to see where we are at. The score at Halftime will be around 17-10. The second half lets our young secondary put on a show. We will get a least 2 picks in the 2nd half, and don't forget about D.Blaylocks 65 yd. TD run :D

Final Score: 27 - 17

phillfree 08-08-2001 12:28 PM

My predictions that our 1st string D which seems suspect to most will shut out Marty's banged up O. We're gonna stomp their ***!

PhilFree

phillfree 08-10-2001 11:05 AM

This isn't a prediction but it could be a fun side bet. How many times will Jimmy Raye run the ball before calling a pass play? Since they're so beat up I say we will see eight runs before the Skins attempt a pass. This time the fans won't boo but rather they will laugh their asses off.

PhilFree

Pitt Gorilla 08-10-2001 11:14 AM

Suppose the Chiefs entered the Indy 500 in a bus.
Is DV driving the bus?
Da' Chiefs!!!!!

steve_minor 08-10-2001 11:16 AM

Side Bet Prediction

 You have it all wrong. Jimmy will pass on the first play to show us how he has changed into a new age cordinator. Then he will run 8 times in a row. hehe

Mark M 08-10-2001 11:40 AM

This hurts to say, but ...

I kinda agree with Clint.

I think that last season was so painful that we are all way to eager for this game (including myself).

REMEMBER: This is preseason, ladies and gentlemen. The game means nothing. Just pray (if you're into that sort of thing) that no one gets hurt.

But not to piss in anyone's punch ...
Chiefs 35
Foreskins 2

How do they score?
Chiefs: Starters anihilate the Skins starters. Green throws for a TD the first series to TG, and then they both sit on the bench. We have one defensive score, one on a return and the rest rushing.

Deadskins: Brister fumbles the snap deep in our own end (okay ... that sounds kinds bad) and they get a safety. But that's it.

Mark M: Leaves the game by halftime since it's a "school night."

MM
~~Stays till the last second ... except in preseason.

dtebbe 08-10-2001 11:47 AM

Here is my prediction on the Redskin's playcalling for the game:
1. Run up the middle, lose 3 yd
2. Run up the middle, lose 3 yd
3. Screen pass, gain 3 yd
4. punt

Donnell Bennett fits Marty's gameplan perfect, don't you think?

Sorry guys, I couldn't resist....

DT

58Forever 08-10-2001 12:22 PM

Why be sorry dtebbe, you are probably right...

If there is one thing we can get from Marty's tenure with the Chiefs, it's that he is predictible....

I don't look to see too many bombs....

Who cares who wins?...I just hope all of our starters play well and our 2nd team shows some good things and that no one gets injured....

shakesthecat 08-10-2001 12:42 PM

Sorry MarkM,
but I have to respectfully disagree. These games DO mean something. It's too bad they never meant anything to Gunther.
You were at the opener last year. You saw how poorly we played.
Maybe if they had been prepared for preseason games, they might not have looked so inept once the season started.

The fact that DV is actually preparing a game plan, makes me feel all warm and fuzzy inside.

Prediction:
Chiefs score on the first play from scrimage. Minnis catches a 10 yard out, shakes the defender, and takes it to the house.

Final score:
CHIEFS 24
'skins 10

California Injun 08-10-2001 01:30 PM

For this Cali native, pre-season games are the worst time to enjoy football.

I don't get to see anything on the tube and have to rely on the media to give analysis.

If the Chiefs go 1-3 in the pre-season then I want the win to be this game.

There's too much potential smaque attached to the results...

KCJohnny 08-10-2001 01:35 PM

Malone is a great player and a decent human being. I watched his bio on "Beyond the Glory" last night for the 3rd time.

It was time to change my signature anyways.....:p

Chiefs Pantalones 08-10-2001 08:04 PM

If the Redskins lose this game...

I bet you'll see Proctor running out onto the field, naked, crying his eyes out and accompanied with a bottle of scotch, run straight towards Marty and jump on him, screaming madly, "please don't go!!!!!!!!!" And the security guards try to tackle him, but he excapes and runs towards DV, and breaks the bottle of scotch over his head, screaming, "I don't wanna play 21st century ball, I don't wanna win, I enjoy 7-9!!!!!!!!!!!"

The sight of it all will be horrifying.

CG

keg in kc 08-10-2001 08:21 PM

Okay, prediction time.

Chiefs will win.

Handily.

1) The Chiefs have prepared for the Redskins, specifically. The Redskins haven't done any special preparations whatsoever. Marty, as usual, has a playbook of about 6 running plays and maybe 10 pass plays for the game. Furthermore, Chiefs coaches -- as well as some key personnel -- are very familiar with Marty-style football, but nobody on the 'skins roster or coaching staff has any idea what to expect from us (and, really, neither do we...).

2) The Redskins have some key injuries, as I outlined in an earlier thread. Going without their starting QB, RB and TE, and potentially their #2 WR and C will make a lackluster offense even worse, and missing their top 2 DEs as well as, potentially, starting MLB and OLB will hurt. I'll predict right now that we'll be able to run the ball, and run it well.

Other than that, after reading a number of articles and interviews with both teams/coaching staffs, I just get the feeling that we're more intent on winning this game than they are. I think Marty will have some emotions returning to Arrowhead, but at the same time I get the feeling that this is just another meaningless preseason game as far as he's concerned.

htismaqe 08-10-2001 08:24 PM

Hmmm...I see where Keg is coming from...but I'm gonna have to stick to my earlier prediction! :D

keg in kc 08-10-2001 08:30 PM

I forgot a point.

3) We're playing our starters for the entire first half (excluding, probably, Green, who'll most likely play only the first quarter and maybe a series in the second). I believe this extends to the defense as well. I don't see Marty doing this, and our first string guys should be able to handle their second stringers without any trouble at all.

We'll be a little sloppy though. I think there's a good chance we'll see defensive scoring in this game, maybe from both teams.

Chiefs Pantalones 08-10-2001 08:30 PM

I think my prediction about what will happen at the end of the game is more accurate than your guys.;)

CG

stickin to my guns:D

Frazod 08-10-2001 09:15 PM

Well, its the first preseason game, so who cares? I just hope our starters make a good showing.

As for the regular season matchup, I absolutely predict the Chiefs will win, regardless of injuries or circumstances. The reason: Marty will really, really want to win that one, and we all know what happens in those games.

Rausch 08-10-2001 09:23 PM

I agree totally with Frazod....

I'm starting to like this guy...:D

Will anyone be close to a puter on sunday to relay what's going on? I have NO way to catch the game and my stereo is pulling an Elliott on me. Quits working when I need it most....

:(

Frazod 08-10-2001 09:41 PM

Maybe you should take your stereo and drop it off the top of a skyscraper, then run over it with a bulldozer, burn what's left and then p!ss on the ashes.

Oh, I'm sorry, that's what I wanted to do to Elliot.... :D

I think the game will be broadcast on line, unless that changed. If so, I'll be able to listen to it now, since my Missouri trip got cancelled.

tommykat 08-10-2001 10:11 PM

Hey last year in preseason I told my friends to watch this guy named Cat..;)

Seems I was righht on that call..........so these next few games should show us some good rookies, I hope.

milkman 08-10-2001 10:38 PM

I predict that the 'Skins will win this game.
Marty knows how to win meaningless games.

Is it to late to do that to Marty.

California Injun 08-11-2001 01:46 AM

milkman,

You never have to bring matches when it comes to burning Marty before urination.

Marty does a fine job of self-implosion himself.;)

Bwana 08-11-2001 08:58 AM

To early in the season for me to lay down a prediction. As a fan, I would rather see the Chiefs win than lose but..... I just hope we can keep our guys healthy and don't have someone like a Gonzo tear an ACL. If we weather the pre-season storm without having a key player go down for the season, that's what I'm going to call a good pre-season.

~Hoping to spoil Martys return to Arrowhead~

MrBlond 08-11-2001 01:08 PM

I predict that the Chiefs will NOT start the game with 6 consecutive running plays. They will not spike the ball on third down and goal with 30 seconds left to "work on our 4th down plays", and they will not kick an extra point when a 2 point conversion would bring us within 1 score. JMO.

Luzap 08-11-2001 02:35 PM

I never rejoyce at anyone's injuries, and I have a lot of respect for Marty, but having said that I think this is the perfect way for us to start our preseason.

We need to gel and gain confidence in ourselves. The Redskins are too banged up to give us much of a game.

I predict in the first half we'll be up by three scores. If those scores are all TDs, I'll be feeling very good about where our team is at.

I am very anxious to see our new personnel and schemes. I don't ever remember being this excited about a preseason game!

Luz
looking forward to a very enjoyable year...

htismaqe 08-11-2001 03:29 PM

I just hope we get out of the game with no injuries...

keg in kc 08-11-2001 03:30 PM

Hear, hear, Parker.

We're relatively undinged going into the game, I hope we can stay that way...
