Who will be the FIRST Free Agent signed by KC?
The FA signing period begins in a little over 5 hours.
Who will be the first FA signed by the Chiefs? I'm taking Justin Smiley, OG, San Francisco. |
ty law
|
colquitt is the first one.
|
It's a safe bet it won't be JA...
|
Jacob Bell, G from Tennessee
|
Asante Samuel.
|
Faine, you heard it here first!
|

Smiley, Bell or Faine all sound good to me. |
Shane Olivea?? Might make a nice RT or RG?

The better question is when?
Probably 3 weeks from now when Carl gets back from vacation. |

And signing Faine makes no sense when we could take the only respectable player on our line and just force him to learn a new position he's not all that good at... |
Quote:
Dammit Carl. :cuss: |
jeff george
He'd be cooler if he spelled his name 'Geoff George' |

I honestly don't care as long as they can help this team.
Jacob Bell Justin Smiley Randall Gay Drayton Florence Bryant Johnson Shane Olivea Jeff Faine Jake Scott DJ Hackett |

Or Geoff Jorje. |

I dont know why, but I actually laughed at that :( |
Jake Scott
|
none, we are building for the future
|
You guys are kidding yourselves. It'll be some scrub who could barely make the practice squad of the Jets or Dolphins.
And we'll probably bring him in as a starter. |
I really don't know, but I can't say I'm too worried about it. I have complete and utter confidence in those making decisions for my beloved franchise. I'm quite certain that whomever it is, we can look forward to the next coming of Carlton Gray.
|
There are great FA options available.
You have to think we can get three of them. At WR, G, and CB. Right? Right? |
Hugh Douglas.
|
Javon Kearse and Randy Moss. Releasing all those old players was just a smokescreen. Youth be damned, we winning now!

Best kicker name ever. Sounds like the unknown masked partner of Don Juan... |
Colquitt.
|
David Carr

Jerry Porter WR Oak
err nevermind didn't realize he was already 29 going on 30. |
It will be some semi-no name cheap player. Big names take longer to sign. Drayton Florence still available?
|
Josh Brown.

And hopefully a little Bryant Johnson to go with it all. Those three, and I would be thrilled. |

I want Brown, Bryant Johnson and Jeff Faine.

http://www.rotoworld.com/content/Home_NFL.aspx Yahoo Sports' Jason Cole suggests that the Chiefs will make a "big run" at free agent kicker Josh Brown. The Chiefs' kicking situation has been a source of frustration since Herm Edwards took over in 2006. Brown figures to get Adam Vinatieri-like money. Source: Yahoo Sports |
This whole time I've been thinking of "I spell my first name like a girl" Kris Brown.
The guy who choked on every kick NOT against the Chiefs... |
Dang! I like Brown..
|
Quote:
Everytime you're watching a game and Seattle needs a 50+ yard FG to win and the kicker drills it, THAT'S Josh Brown. The guy is money, but would probably turn into a steaming pile of shit as soon as he stepped on the turf at Arrowhead. |
Quote:
He single-handedly won you guys 5-6 games in 2006 with 50 yard bombs as time expired. |

We already have a long snapper right? Since that position is filled, and we don't need a punter I don't think we'll be signing anyone until April.
|
Quote:
Actually alot of teams, I know the Pats do this, allocate a certain amount of money for each position determining which ones they feel are more valuable than others and they will not exceed it. |
Josh Brown wants to come to KC to be reunited with Jean-Philippe Darche......
|
I'd like to see the Chiefs pursue alot of the under tier guys...
Calvin Pace is one guy I like in particular..along with the other guys I've talked about in the past. |

I've always viewed him as a DE. |
Josh Brown would be fine, I still think they should get Bryant Johnson, Jacob Bell, and Calvin Pace in here right away. I don't think any of them would break the bank and they'd be great additions.

The Johnson and Pace would probably be more our price. Then again, it's really hard to tell. There's always rampant overspending in FA. |
Quote:
I just don't think you pass on guys because you don't have something else. |
Quote:
|
Quote:
That's why I mentioned Justin Smiley. Coming off an injury, probably on the cheap. |
Quote:
You don't pass on a Johnson in free agency with our needs. You DO pass on him in the draft with our needs. People immediately think draft pick = cheaper salary, but that's not true. It's sure as hell not true at 5... |
Quote:
We just need better players regardless of position. |
Quote:
Well, I don't think we're "letting him go" Hopefully he'll stay, but we franchised trufant so we couldn't franchise brown like we did last year. We'll offer him at least top 3 kicker money, but holmy wont break the bank on a kicker.. He's not a big fan of kickers, he thinks they're weird.. We do miss Darche though.. Did he stay healthy? When we released him there were huge concerns about his shoulder.. He is the best long snapper I have ever seen.. |
Quote:
I'd take Bowe, easy. This year we need O line, CB, DT, or a MLB. There are no stud MLB's or CB's around us though so I'd go with Dorsey, Jake Long, or trade down... |

Knowing what we need and the contract he'd signed I'd consider Bowe a steal. Bowe had 70 rec, 995 yrds, and 5 TD's. Behind a dog$#it O line, with a dog$#it OC, and mostly dog$#it QB's. Johnson had 48 rec, 756 yrds, 4 TD's. And this with Mike "Bow before Me" Martz and pretty good offense. Johnson also had many more damaging targets to take pressure off of him. When you consider what Bowe had around him and what he accomplished it's nothing short of amazing. And he'll be cheaper. |

Sorry OnTheWarpath.....
Dolphins signed G Justin Smiley, formerly of the 49ers, to a five-year, $25 million contract. The deal included a $9 million signing bonus. http://rotoworld.com/ |

Good signing for them. Glad we're asleep at the wheel. Hell, Carl's probably in bed right now. Exactly why I'm concerned about bringing guys in for "visits." Gives another team time to make them an offer they can't refuse. |

Quote:
We're asleep at the wheel because we didn't sign Justing Smiley in the first 45 minutes of free agency. LOL |
Quote:
Carl's probably on vacation it never fails that when FA starts he's never around...don't expect the Chiefs to sign much of anyone, that's their MO. They paid LJ a bunch last year and have a top 5 pick which will command a ton of money with Allens tag.... Don't expect much, I'm not. |
Quote:
As pointed out earlier, all that does is leaves the window open for another team to make them an offer they can't refuse - and never get on a plane to KC. The Dolphins obviously had Smiley targeted and got him - without bringing him in for a "visit." |
Quote:
There has been exactly ONE free agent signing reported in the entire NFL so far. Must be 31 other teams "asleep at the wheel." |

Quote:
You can tell Parcells has taken over in Miami. They targeted Smiley, offered him a pretty fair deal, before he could deal with anyone else. Drew Rosenhaus talking now on NFL Network about how good franchises are targeting and signing guys quickly....... |
Quote:
You expected Smiley to get signed by the Dolphins? Weird. In your first post, you said the Chiefs were going to sign him. |
