What are you going to do with your economic stimulus check?

I might drop the entire amount into my IRA. Maybe I'll just spend it recklessly. I haven't decided yet.

Here's the payment schedule.

Here's the payment calculator.

I'll be getting mine direct deposited around May 2. I'll be paying off debt/moving expenses.

Buying a couch and loveseat probably.

The "commatard" filter ruined the link, so here's a redirect to it. Duck Dog, feel free to add this to the header.

Probably paying off a little debt then putting the rest towards a trip with the wife.

Dartgod 03-21-2008 08:11 AM

It's going into our vacation fund for a Carribean trip next year.

Reerun_KC 03-21-2008 08:13 AM

King_Chief_Fan 03-21-2008 08:17 AM

I am not eligble for one. Glad for those who are.

Abba-Dabba 03-21-2008 08:18 AM

Pay off the remaining balance of one of the cars and pay off a couple CC's with small balances. Redirecting those payments to them into something else. Nothing else more logical for my family.

Lzen 03-21-2008 08:19 AM

I am using it for vacation to Disney in June. :)

The Franchise 03-21-2008 08:19 AM

Sweet....thanks for the link. I'll be getting mine May 9th and I'll be using it to pay off some bills.

ExtremeChief 03-21-2008 08:23 AM

CosmicPal 03-21-2008 08:41 AM

I'm not getting one...:(

Spott 03-21-2008 08:42 AM

Looks like I will get it direct deposited on May 9th. I have no bills to pay off, but my cheap ass will likely just put the money in the bank and not spend any of it.

DenverChief 03-21-2008 08:42 AM

SO I take it this is a ramp used by a dog/s of some sort?

Same thing I do with all my extra cash: home renovation.

I think this will go toward either landscaping, a carport, or a driveway repave. Obviously, it won't get us there on the latter two, but it will help out.

No, you're going to get another in May. $600 for single people, $1200 if you filed jointly. Obviously, there are limitations and stipulations... but basically, if you made over $3K and filed this year and don't make more than $75K as a single, you'll get the check/direct deposit.

vailpass 03-21-2008 10:57 AM

We don't qualify for a rebate. Can you believe that bullshit? Apparently the more you put in the less you get out. There is something wrong with that picture.

!!!!!

Since when does this happen? Is this something new being done this year to try to jump start our hampering economy? What do I have to do to see if I qualify? I already filed my taxes and received my rebate checks and I fall into the category you are talking about. $600 would come in handy right now.

Is the money is basically an interest free loan against your taxes next year? If you get money will it be deducted from your return in 2009?

Mine goes to the bank as well. I'm not rich but I have what I need. What I want is another issue but as long as we have what we need and the grand kids have what they need we are OK.

I've heard several people mention that, but no, it's a tax rebate.

Q. Is my stimulus payment taxable?

A. No. You will not owe tax on your payment when you file your 2008 federal income tax return. But you should keep a copy of the IRS letter you receive later this year listing the amount of your payment. In the event you do not qualify for the full amount this year but you do next year, you will need to have the letter as a record of the amount you previously received.

Q. Will the payment I receive in 2008 reduce my 2008 refund or increase the amount I owe for 2008?

A. No, the stimulus payment will not reduce your refund or increase the amount you owe when you file your 2008 return.

Going right into my ING Direct money market account. I'm currently building up my emergency fund, but that might eventually turn into a down payment for a house. I'm not jumping in unprepared, I want a nice down payment before I think about a mortgage.

Hey...I only watch ESPN, ESPN 2, ESPNNU, and Two and a Half men. How am I supposed to know. Was I supposed to get one last year too? Cuz I never did.

I conferred with some colleagues and they knew about it but said the check if you are single will be from $0 to $600. Not a guarantee of $600. How do you guestimmate what your check will be?
