Anyone know of a good site for player rankings? Mock drafts?

Jenson71 03-30-2008 02:51 PM

Hardball Times has good information.

Join a Yahoo free league and you'll get their free ranks, which aren't terrible.

For rumors, trades, injuries, I like this one:

http://www.prosportsdaily.com/mlb/mlb-rumors.html

There's also MLB's site.

You have to pay for any of ESPN's stuff.

Fantasybaseballcafe.com is by far the best site.

Here is Sports Illustrated's rankings by position: http://fannation.com/fantasy/column/7741

Here is their fantasy baseball page: http://fannation.com/fantasy/column/7002

I have the #3 overall pick... debating who to take...

I am leaning toward Hanley Ramirez

#3? I'd take someone else. Without Miguel's bat behind him this year, he may not see the same pitches, or score as many runs. He's good, but I'd stick with someone with a longer track record whose lineup isn't shifting significantly.

Not bad for a 16 team league. You'll have to let us know how you did at the end of the season.

A-Rod and Reyes basically go 1-2 in every draft. Ramirez is the usual third pick, although I don't really know why.

Because he does everything well. Did you not pay attention to the numbers he has put up the last two years?

He gives you SB like Reyes, but also hits 30+ HR. He's sick.

Bingo. So many people only follow or know of the big names in baseball. The guy is an easy 30-30 guy who will hit for a good average and drive in a bunch of runs.

I don't believe in taking a pitcher in round one, so after A-Rod's off the board Hanley Ramirez is very far down my list. In fact he's the #3 guy after ARod then David Wright.

Sure there are some big bats like Howard, Fielder, Ortiz, Pujols but Ramirez makes up for any power difference with his steals. Plus you have to look at the position he plays. I can wait on a 1st baseman and grab Berkman or Lee to play first, but I can't come close to that production from a SS in round 3 or later.

Sure-Oz 03-31-2008 10:39 AM

I picked Ramirez #3 overall as well, he's a badass

The Bad Guy 03-31-2008 10:52 AM

I'll be very interested in seeing how Hanley does without the lineup protection he had last year with Cabs.

How did Cabrera do without protection? Pretty damn well.

Hanley Ramirez isn't close to being the hitter that Miguel is.

I know, he's a better ball player.

Just compare their stats from last year

Cabera
.320 avg
34 Home Runs
119 RBI
2 Stolen Bases

Ramirez
.332 avg
29 Home Runs
81 RBI
51 Stolen Bases

Plus Ramirez is much better defensively.

Sure Carbera has done it for a longer time, but Ramirez is a young stud.

AustinChief 03-31-2008 01:14 PM

I managed to get Reyes at #3... I was amazed he was there... ESPECIALLY since steals count for 2 points in my league.
