Masters Tournament

Augusta National Golf Club
7,445 yds. Par 72
Longest hole: 575 yd par 5
shortest hole: 155 yd par 3
Defending Champ: Zach Johnson
Tiger's won 4 green jackets, will this year be 5?
Davis Love will sit out his 1st major since 1990.
Arnie will hit the first tee shot for the second year @ 8:15 ET on Thursday.

I'll be parked in front of my TV Saturday and Sunday.
This is the first time I would actually take Tiger over the field.

OnTheWarpath15 04-08-2008 04:49 PM

I'm fully expecting Tiger to win, but Geoff Ogilvy and Adam Scott could make a run. They've both been playing really well as of late.

tmax63 04-08-2008 06:19 PM

Gotta a chance to walk the course during the practice rounds a long time ago and as a country boy growing up on a farm I was amazed as to how well that place was groomed. I got down in the bottom of the ditches and there was rake marks where some poor bastard had to go down there and "make it purty".

smittysbar 04-08-2008 08:28 PM

I am ready. I will take Tiger over the field.

Me too.

Especially this year.

My 77 year old FIL, 3 months post-bypass (his 3rd in 25 years) and a pacemaker installation is down there with my BIL.

Plus, if you have DTV, they have a dedicated Masters channel this year, where you can watch 4 different areas of the course, including a dedicated Amen Corner cam.

morphius 04-09-2008 07:16 AM

Uverse has 3 extra channels they turned up just to cover the Masters, for free.

Now if I only liked watching golf.

Where are they playing the Masters this year?

phisherman 04-09-2008 07:45 AM

Augusta, same as every other year.

Ain't that the truth. But I would extend that a little bit. This month we've got the NCAA tourney, start of MLB season, Masters, NHL playoffs, NFL draft excitement....

Damn fine time to be a sports fan....

'Hamas' Jenkins 04-09-2008 12:52 PM

I don't think Scott has a chance in hell, OTW. He's not a very good putter. And Ogilvy, despite winning recently, really strikes me as more of a U.S. Open guy than a Masters guy.

The best thing about Augusta is that the cream almost always rises to the top, because it's easier to make pars than it is to make birdies (which is both the boon and curse of the Open).

bogey 04-09-2008 01:39 PM

I imagine the PGA is hoping Tiger is in the hunt when the week-end comes around. I must admit that if a top 10 player isn't competing on the week-end, I tune out.

I read that the LD F (all the LD's) have a draw bias. I hit my driver fairly straight. Did or do you have any issues with the draw bias?

I am still using the Cobra Composite 414....I like the smaller club head size. shaft is 45g.....but stiff.

Pretty consistent with it......265 yards

My Cobra irons are a few years old. When I wear them out, I will buy more Cobras. Everything in the bag is Cobra except the putter(Ping)

I can't speak for the driver, as I play a Titleist.

But I do carry a Cobra LD F 3-wood, and I've yet to see anything that suggests a draw bias.

The Pro is neutral to open, yes it has a small draw bias. And I hit a draw, but the way it sets up it doesn't bother me. It is a VERY long club. I was hitting Titleist 905, this thing blows it away. I had the Diamanta X-Stiff shaft put in it. I think I am going to change shafts, launching a bit high, but the accuracy is awesome. This is the first Cobra I have bought, have not been disappointed.

My Bag
Cobra LD F XS Diamanta
Titleist 3W 15* XS
Adams Hybrid 19*
3-PW Callaway Fusion
Titleist Vokey spin mill 56* SW

SG4 SkyCaddie

I'm in the market for a driver but my swing speed is upwards of 110. Does a graphite shaft come on the LD F??? I'm considering a TM R7 but liked the LD F too, I haven't swung one yet though and need a shaft that doesn't flex too much.

I would HIGHLY recommend a Cobra X-Speed Pro with an x-stiff shaft.

smittysbar 04-10-2008 03:37 PM

Wouldn't get the pro. I have a high swing speed also, the F you will love. I didn't think the pro was quite as long. Also the pro produces more side spin. Have heard real good things about the new LV4 also.

smittysbar 04-10-2008 03:38 PM

Some big numbers getting posted so far. Woods finished even.

PhillyChiefFan 04-10-2008 03:55 PM

Thanks for the input all, I don't have very many golfing friends to help me out, they mostly just get drunk and swat the ball around.

I'm surprised Woods finished even!

smittysbar 04-10-2008 06:19 PM

They about didn't get everyone through before dark. No real big blow ups today.

'Hamas' Jenkins 04-10-2008 07:27 PM

Mickelson's round was pretty interesting. He was striping the ball on the first twelve holes, then starting spraying the ball, didn't make a single putt but that miracle on one, and finished -1.

he and Tiger are both in great shape.

smittysbar 04-10-2008 07:44 PM

Yeah, they are in good shape. That is what is great about the masters, tomorrow the leader could go to the back and vise verse.

He's lost a lot of weight, and it's really stabilized his swing. You can tell that his base is a lot stronger from the gym work (and work with Harmon) and he's not nearly as loose in his legs, which really helps his driving (which was excellent for the most part today, save for his teeball on 15).

I'm thinking about finally changing my irons this summer, after 8 years. I'm pretty much a Ping guy through and through. I've been playing the i3's since I graduated high school, have a set of Eye2's as backup, and am looking for something with a little bit of a cleaner overall look.

I was thinking about getting a combo set of i10's and S58's with Rifles in them, but I'll actually have to go to the mf'ing course to make use of 'em.

Thats kind of what I'm afraid of. I have only hit it on the simulator and I don't really know how accurate they are. The FT-I is far outta my range as far as cost goes right now, but I have hit it, and it feels great to hit.

I LOVE their G-10 driver. I desperatly need an upgrade on irons too. I'm 25 and I have had my set of clubs since I was 12!! Surprisingly, I still hit them well, and I took good care of them so they aren't bad, but just I need new ones.

G-10 probably would have been my other choice this year, I liked it a lot also. The R7s are a real good club too. Just depends on what look you like. I have never liked Taylor Made, the way it looks when setting up. I have a friend that is playing the SuperQuad R7, he loves it, he plays for MU. The best thing you could do is get fitted, the shaft is probably just as important as anything else when buying a driver anymore

I've REALLY come to realize that. I am planning on getting fitted, and like I said I need a stiff flex shaft cause of my swing speed. with the r7 I'm between the 425 and 460, my friend loves the 460, but its just so massive of a club head I don't know if I'll like it. I have hit the Titleist 907 D and liked it too

Do you think the moveable weights hold any merit or are they just a fad?

Sorry so many questions but its tough for me to find anyone that knows sh*t about golf around me.

smittysbar 04-11-2008 07:35 AM

Movable weighting works. It is the same as if you were to use lead tape. As long as you get a good shaft, it won't have much twist, so the larger head won't hurt anything. When buying new I would just get the 460. The Titleist D1 and D2's were a pretty big flop, and that's hard for me to say, I am a huge Titleist fan. If you look at the tour, most have the D2 head cover but are still hitting the 905, that says all you need to know about those. But mark my word Titleist will be coming out with something good next year, it is a great company and won't allow itself to be passed by.

PhillyChiefFan 04-11-2008 07:51 AM

I'll probably end up getting the 460. I'm going to use my buddy's tomorrow when we play to see if I like it, and he said that we can mess with the weights.

I need to upgrade my clubs too and I'm probably going with either Cobra s9's or Callaway X-18 (maybe 20's if I talk myself into using some of my tax incentive)

smittysbar 04-11-2008 11:19 AM

The 907 D1, or the 907 D2?

The D1 has the triangular shaped head, while the D2 has a more traditional pear shaped head.

I just ordered a D1 last week.

'Hamas' Jenkins 04-11-2008 04:14 PM

I took a 905T off of my BIL's hands after he snapped the shaft @ the hosel being a dumbass. I'm thinking about throwing a V2 in it and using it as a backup driver for my G2 which also has a V2 in it.

'Hamas' Jenkins 04-11-2008 04:17 PM

It'll be interesting to see if Tiger can have one of his late round rallies given that 15 is still a birdie hole, and 16 has a fairly accessible pin position.

'Hamas' Jenkins 04-11-2008 04:21 PM

Tiger with his patented splay cut on the 15th tee to put him in the straw. He's going to have to hit a huge looping piss slice just to get near the green.

Stay away from the big chains, Golf Galaxy, Nevada Bob's, Edwin Watts. Go to a PGA pro around your area who has a good rep, and hit balls in a live environment. Don't use a launch monitor for anything other than a second opinion, and if he wants you to hit into a net, tell him to fuck off. Make sure he uses impact tape to judge your lie angle properly.

Do some research on your own to find a list of shafts that may suit you.

Try this .pdf out for some advanced info:

I really wish I could have put money on the fact that he was going to shoot 76+ today.

That's the one thing about major ch. golf. Every time an above average pro will come out and shoot the leading number, and 108 times out of 100, he'll shoot 8-10 shots worse the next day.
