Wow, 2nd good outing in a row for Tomko.

Tomko>Meche

For now at least......

Mr. Arrowhead 04-12-2008 06:36 PM

No shit. We're getting schooled by a dude named BOOF. HIS NAME IS ****ING BOOF. Come on.

ChiTown 04-12-2008 06:53 PM

Gawd, our offense is pathetic.

Fkn Royals - they can either hit or pitch in any given year, but haven't been able to do both in I don't know how long...............:cuss:

kcfan82 04-12-2008 06:54 PM

I just got back, didn't get my damn Butler jersey and the upper deck got to arctic temperatures at 15,000 feet above sea level.....

Deberg_1990 04-12-2008 06:59 PM

Pretty sad when your team is only down 2 runs and you can say: Game Over.

Bowser 04-12-2008 07:03 PM

Beavis must start all Royals threads from here on out.

Mecca 04-12-2008 07:06 PM

I still can't believe a team in the AL expects to be competitive with an offense this far below just major league averages....

It's a weird lineup.

Lot's of guys that "can" hit, but not many run producers.......

They have guys who should be backups at alot of spots or 2 guys where there should only be 1, stuff like that.

Like I'll roll through some of their guys..on a good team this is what these guys do...

Buck-backup
Gload-nice backup/pinch hitter
Pena-probably not even on a roster
Gathright/Dejesus-both of these guys should not be on the same ML roster and are likely best suited as 4th OF's
Teahen-still doesn't produce like a corner OF does and likely would sit on a good team

Some of the guys I'm not even listing are young guys we don't know much about, they just have guys who don't hit for their positions especially in the OF and at 1st.

What do you want me to say?

I'm sorry you can't have 2 of your 3 OF's hitting less than 20 HR's in the AL unless you got guys in the infield who produce at OF rate and the Royals don't. You will not win games in the AL that far below average production.

Deberg_1990 04-12-2008 07:33 PM

So are the leadoff guys not gettin on base??

Or are the alledged "big sticks" of Butler, Gordon, Guillen and Teahan not driving them in??

This team doesn't have any "big sticks"

tk13 04-12-2008 07:34 PM

It's the 2nd week of the season. Odds are the offense is going to get better, as often happens in baseball when the weather warms... and the pitching numbers will possibly drift back a bit. Who knows though. In reality there's probably not too much to change other than Gload at 1st. Guys like Butler and Gordon are just going to have growing pains. Guillen is probably going to get his numbers. Teahen has quietly been very solid so far. Gathright is stealing bases. There are a lot of pieces there to work with. But it's only the 2nd week.

But then again, if given the choice, I'd rather have great pitching and defense... that's what usually gets you somewhere, as any Royal fan would know by now.

petegz28 04-12-2008 07:43 PM

These guys are starting to look too much like last year. I hope Hillman nips that in the bud. We need to be scoring more. Losing is one thing. Scoring 1 run in 3 games is Buddy Bell type BS.

Yes. Too inconsistent with the hits and too many pop flys or ground outs. Little bit of bad hitting luck but overall we just look weak at the plate.

petegz28 04-12-2008 07:48 PM

wow shut out back-back. Hillman better light some fires.

Mecca 04-12-2008 07:49 PM

I don't think no matter what he says he's gonna make them score a bunch of runs, it's a blah lineup.

Yes but we have more than 2 runs in us. Our pitching is making it possible to win games scoring 3 -4 runs. We have to back up solid ptiching performances with the small ball.

But we came out of the gate so hot at the plate we are due for a bit of a funk. Hopefully we break out tomorrow.

Demonpenz 04-12-2008 07:54 PM

that was pretty selfish of gullien not to atleast take one pitch and try to get on base even if he hit's one towards I-70 it wouldn't have tied the game

Nzoner 04-12-2008 07:54 PM

26 innings without a single run :shake:

ChiefsCountry 04-12-2008 07:55 PM

They are getting hits just not producing runs. Twins have had our number for some reason over the years.

Mecca 04-12-2008 07:56 PM

The Royals have a bunch of singles hitters and no run producers....

tk13 04-12-2008 08:01 PM

Well, let's all freak out at once. All together now.

ChiefsCountry 04-12-2008 08:02 PM

Basically the Royals lack a bat in left field and 1st base. I think Gordon and Butler will knock runs in, but we still dont have power in those positions. I wish we could have got Delmon Young, I think the Twins got a steal in him.

MTG#10 04-12-2008 08:03 PM

Just a bump in the road, they'll win 7 of their next 10.

That sums it up, you can't have a singles hitter left fielder and first basemen unless you somehow have a 2nd baseman like Chase Utley or a CF that really hits, this team has no power, then again it really never has.

Demonpenz 04-12-2008 08:06 PM

butler and gordon will be 30 homerun guys. I don't know if you guys know that it is 20 degrees out. The twins had a fly ball go out of the ball park when it was about 10 degrees warmer. If dejesus comes back healthy that will give us a boost.

kcchiefsus 04-12-2008 08:07 PM

We agree, I think the Royals and alot of the fans need to understand in the AL, you need run production bats. You don't win in the AL with small ball you need guys who can rake...the fact that the Royals have still yet to have someone hit 40 HR's in franchise history is just sad to me.

tk13 04-12-2008 08:10 PM

I don't know why people are beating up on Teahen, he's probably been our best hitter so far.

He came into tonight with a 1.000+ OPS, and was on pace for 80 extra base hits and more walks than strikeouts. Combine that with outstanding baserunning and a strong arm in left, and he might be our best player so far. Now, my money would be that he finishes with an OPS under 1000 and less than 80 XBH, but... if we're going to freak out after 11 games, it would be really ignorant to say Teahen is the reason the offense is struggling at this exact moment. It isn't.

Most of that is bc Kauffman isnt a power hitting ballpark. Its more of a NL style park.

Mecca 04-12-2008 08:12 PM

Until Teahen shows any power at all I won't believe he has it...

And no you can't have all power guys but you need SOME.

I personally think corner OF's especially in the AL should be near perfect offensive players.

I am good friends with the head of marketing for the Royals, and there were 20k jerseys given out tonight. There were no large ordered. Basically, it was XL for men, M for women, and S for kids.

Well, they won by having a roster of legitimate major league players. And there is a difference between having your home run leaders hitting between 25-35 as the Twins and A's have had the last four years, and no more than 21 (And that was Sweeney) and in most cases no more than 15.

The Royals always seem to have trouble with the Twins. Can't complain about 6 solid innings from Tomko, even with the loss.

Hopefully this afternoon won't be Bannister's first rough outting.

The bats will wake up in time. The question is whether the pitching will still be there.

Last night a couple friends of mine, Mrs. Blowfish and I went to the Royals game. Had a generally lousy time. Not because of the company, and Mrs. Blowfish was a trouper.

Here's why:

1. Because of the construction at the ball park, my friend who was in charge of getting the tix couldn't find an open ticket booth to buy pre-sale tickets at Kauffman. This is like two weeks ago. He buys them at ticket master instead, and we pay $15 more for the seats because of fees.

2. It was 38 degrees with a north wind gusting to 35mph.

3. The main reason we went was because it was Billy Butler jersey night. But the Royals only made 20,000 of them, and sold 39,000 seats. So only half of the fans got one. We showed up 90 minutes ahead of first pitch and didn't get one. The guys at the gate said they were all gone in the first 30 minutes, some people has lined up six hours early.

4. Basic beer now $7 each. Yikes.

5. Our seats were about six rows from the very top, and it was cold. Real cold. We were dressed like for a Chiefs game, but for some reason, cold weather for baseball always seems worse than Chiefs cold.

6. Royals get three lousy hits, get shut out 2-0, their second shut out in a row, fall out of first place.

We stayed until the 8th. My wife was cold, and so was I. Glad to get out of there.

I think I'll just watch the Royals on TV this year. That way if I start to get disappointed, I'll only have emotional, and not financial, investment. And I certainly won't use first 20,000 promotional items as any kind of motivation.
One of the ticket takers told my friend "You bought a ticket and parking, we don't owe you anything more if you can't get here early enough." Nice.
