Training camp position battles

Pick the three training camp stories that you're most interested in watching. Training camp will be quite interesting this year, methinks.

Poll forthcoming, assuming that Carl doesn't trade it away for draft picks.

The Franchise 05-09-2008 08:22 AM

1. The entire offensive line getting picked. Who starts at LT? RG? RT?

2. The battle at the safety positions. Page/Morgan or Morgan/Pollard

3. The FB position battle. Cox? Hoyte?

Chiefnj2 05-09-2008 08:26 AM

1. LT
2. RT
3. LDE

4th - the race for the 4th and 5th QB spots after Cryole, Thigpen and Huard go down with injury.

Chief Faithful 05-09-2008 08:36 AM

1. Offensive line especially the right side.
2. Corner backs with all the youth and how much Herm gives it personal attention.
3. Who is going to replace Jason Dunn? This has to be one of the most important yet under reported battle going into training camp.

Will Glenn Dorsey actually kill opposing linemen, or just maim them?
Will Herm allow the offense to try to score this year?

1)How will we line up on our O line?
It will be intriguing to see where Albert and McIntosh line up. Will we throw Albert into the fire at LT right off the bat with McIntosh becoming the RT? And who's gonna be our C and RG? Will Richardson be a late round steal at RT? If our line gets it done will Croyle prove to be our starter for the next several years or will he bust?

2)How much impact will our first three draft picks have?
Will the adition of Dorsey make up for the loss of JA on our D line? He won't get sacks but he might create more chances for the rest of the D if he can blow up the middle of the oponents O line. How will Flowers do and also will Morgan win a starting job? Willl these two guys improve our secondary?

3)With JA gone to the vikes how will Tamba Hali fair at RDE?
With Dorsey in the middle and Hali at RDE will Hali get double digit sacks? And who plays LDE? With who ever it is will it be harder to run the ball on our left side then it was last year? Although Allen is gone could our D line be better this year because of Dorsey?

Those are my questions and the questions that surround them. Not just for camp though but for the 2008 season and beyond.

I went with...

1) Where will Fat Albert line up.

2) Which QB emerges victorious.

3) Who lines up next to Dorsey...i hope Tank does, but not holding my breath based 07.

el borracho 05-09-2008 10:39 AM

QB battle
Offensive line lineup
Will the offense score (what offense are we running, anyway?)

ChiefRon 05-09-2008 10:44 AM

There's so much intrigue this year with how this roster will shape up. It's going to be hard to limit it to 3.

1) OL - How's the offensive line going to shake out? Which of these players will emerge as the starters? (positions listed based on Chiefs web site, but obviously not set yet)
C - Rudy Niswanger, Wade Smith
G - Brian Waters, Chris McDuffie
T - Travis Leffew, Tre Stallings, Herb Taylor, Barry Richardson, Ian-Yates Cunningham, Will Svitek, Adrian Jones, Branden Albert, Damion McIntosh, Anthony Alabi

2) CB (although I could say the entire secondary) - Which young CBs will catch on faster? Will they make a bigger impact than our ragtag group from last year? So far, we're looking at these options:
Brandon Flowers, Dimitri Patterson, Patrick Surtain, Maurice Leggett, Tyron Brackenridge, Rashard Barksdale, Brandon Carr

3) WR - Will anyone emerge as a viable threat opposite Bowe? Can 2 of these guys step up so Brodie has options at both wideouts, the slot, and TE?
Luke Swan, Jabari Arthur, Kevin Robinson, Maurice Price, Jeff Webb, Bobby Sippio, Will Franklin, Devard Darling

And that's not even getting to all the other questions:
Will we find a gem or two among all the undrafted rookies we looked at?
Will Cottam replace Dunn?
Will someone emerge as a real kicker?
Will someone step up at LDE?
Will competition make Pollard reach his potential, or will Morgan beat him out of a job?
Will Tank / Turk step up their game this year?
Will Demorrio Williams see the field and make an impact?
Who wins the return duties, and will they actually go forward on returns?

And those are just some of the questions off the top of my head...there are still a ton more questions as I think about our roster going into training camp...

crazycoffey 05-09-2008 10:45 AM

I wanna know who is going to play "slash" in gailey's offense.
Sippio
Jamaal
one of the rookie TE's
or will Stewart come out of retirement to run our Offense....

el borracho 05-09-2008 10:48 AM

Tank, Turk and Hali all need to show major improvement or the defense simply won't function.

Maybe you could break Smith's old ass hip! :D

kc rush 05-09-2008 11:10 AM

Who will our tackles be?
Who will play the other DE position?
Can Brodie be a starting QB?

More questions: (outside of training camp)

How will Herm and/or Carl f-up this year and who will be the scapegoat?
Will Herm ever shut up?
How many blackouts will there be?
How much will season tickets go up for 2009, despite a losing record?
Will we have the first or second pick in the 2009 draft?
Will Clark hold people accountable?
Will LJ put out a new rap record?
Will Vegas put out an over/under prop bet on the number of times Herm says: Its Okay, I was a player/when I played, Flustrated.
Will Hootie or Goatse have a new mancrush for '08? Will it be toward eachother?
Which will be more fun to watch, the Chief's offense or Mr. FAX's digestive track become un-obstructed?

blueballs 05-09-2008 11:13 AM

They should arrange a scrimmage with the Raiders
it would only take one night in the land of cheese curds
to send Russell into a weight gaining nightmare of a season

:thumb: Sad but true.

Oh wait. We have Tyler Thigpen.

 I know this is dumb but could you ever imagine a good NFL QB named Thigpen? I can't see it.

There was a pretty decent WR named Yancy Thigpen, whether or not his success carries over to other Thigpens, remains to be seen...

In a new twist the Chiefs are going to introduce the modified Tampa 2, now known as the Tampa 3.

CoMoChief 05-09-2008 04:29 PM

Outside of DJ, Tamba, LJ, TG, Waters, Bowe, Donnie Edwards and Colquitt, I think every position is up for grabs.

How about Marion?

I see it as a progression starting with Kansas City's offensive line. How the offensive line gets re-built will be the key to the season and next season. The line has to re-establish our run game. The strong line play with a good run game will then help the QB position. Having a strong offense that can stay on the field and put some points on the board helps keep the defense rested and will allow for improved defense.

So one more time, the offensive line is what I will be watching.
