My baby got new shoes!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I just got new 20" Black Chrome Bullitts for my 'Stang! The pictures don't do them justice. They are actually real chrome with black dye added to the chrome mixture when it's made. The front rims are 8.5" wide and the rears are 10" wide. No more spinning when I launch :) Tell me what you think...

Those are really nice.
Looks fantastic man.

Badass! How fast have you taken it?

Rain Man 05-09-2008 05:38 PM

I have a question, and I mean no offense. I'm probably asking this out of ignorance because I'm not a car guy.

What's the big deal about wheels? Is it just a looks thing, or is there some performance enhancement that I don't know about?

I was at the Porsche site the other day (yes, I'm compensating). Go there http://www.porsche.com/usa/models/cayenne/ and click to build your own Cayenne. Do the regular one, not one of the upscale versions.

So you start to pick the vehicle, which starts out at under $44,000. Then you get to the wheels, and they give a dozen choices, which start out at $0 and go up to an astounding (to me) $7,490! If you asked me to pick amongst those wheels, I don't think I could identify the free one versus the one that costs more than a small motor home. Seriously, what's the deal?

One two three uh!
My baby don't mess around
Because she loves me so
And this I know for shooo..

Nice wheels, your thread title just made me think of this song...

Not bad, though I'm not a big fan of those type of rims.

Buehler445 05-09-2008 05:56 PM

Look pretty friggin sweet dude.

135 - My hood started flexing and that scared the sh*t out of me. That was before I had the hoodscoop too.

There are performance enhancements to be had from wheels/tires, but most have them for looks. For me, I wanted wheels that would compliment the American Muscle look of my Mustang. I do not like crazy patterned wheels. Smaller/lighter wheels will actually increase your performance due to the weight loss. My factory wheels were 17" and these are 20" so these actually decrease my performance ever so slightly. However, my rears are wider so I won't spin so easily when taking off anymore.

Silock 05-09-2008 06:45 PM

Looks good, dude!

IA_Chiefs_fan 05-09-2008 06:48 PM

Thanks for the compliments. I put a lot of work in saving for this car and the aftermarket mods. This was my first NEW car I ever purchased and I plan to give it to my son in about 20 years. He's eleven now and we enjoy it together.

I should add that I really only wanted 18" rims, but Black Chrome Bullitts for the newer Mustangs can't be found, at least not wide ones for the rear. But the 20's really haven't slowed me much since last week I got a JLT II Cold Air Intake and a Brenspeed Tune!
The rear spoiler is new too. I replaced the factory wing a couple weeks ago and had more of the black paint added.
My last mod for a long time is my stereo system. A buddy and I have been wiring for a new system the past few nights. I listen to rock so I'm not loading the car with 10 subs or anything, but the system will be pretty awesome.

el borracho 05-09-2008 06:56 PM

Perhaps a set of hood latches and pins should be next? Anyway, beautiful car (as if you didn't know).

Or I could just drive with more sense :) I've had the car two years and have only had it over 110 that one time.

Although a lot of it is asthetics, unsprung weight is a big deal too.

djrcmay 05-09-2008 08:50 PM

Unless you get better gas mileage with them, who cares, anybody can buy wheels for their car. Dosen't do anything for me.

I probably reduced my gas mileage by about 1 MPG. I rarely have to pay for my gas though unless I'm going on a trip so that's not a big deal to me.

Leave him alone. He's stimulating the economy. And you wonder why you didn't get a stimulus check.

I assure you I gave no where near $7490 for my wheels/tires. And you're right, I did it for the good of the country :p

HMc 05-09-2008 09:12 PM

Personally i thinkthe 20s fill the guards out nicely on that vehicle - not too big to raise the car too much (like 22s would) and minimal gap b/w the guard and rubber.

looks good.

Rain man - for me rim purchase is somewhat analogous to expensive suits. WHy spend two grand on a suit, when the marginal quality increase over a a 300 or 400 dollar suit isn't anywhere near 1500 hundred bucks. Cos you feel good in it.

Thanks, I actually wanted taller tires but there aren't too many options for my car when you get to 20's.

exactly. lighter/strong wheels = better performance

Nice rims... I'm not a ford guy at all though. I don't like the tires on it though, too tuner car looking.

You didn't?

I might pay $7,490 for wheels if they made the car levitate or something.

I was just wondering if I was missing something on that. Thanks all for the insights.

And your wheels look very nice. When I was in high school, for some reason wheels were a really big deal on cars. I remember one guy that I worked with who had a schedule set up to wax his wheels every three days. Being a peer-following high schooler, I thought perhaps I should do the same thing, but that lasted less than three days. Now I buy wheels that don't show dirt.

Actually I don't get that until July. And it's going toward our Disney vacation next February. This car and mods came from savings and hard work.

Me too, although I never had the pleasure of actually seeing them on a car until now. Only one company actually manufactures wide Black Chrome Bullitt rims with the correct offset for the newer Stangs. I got lucky because there are no more available for sale at this point in time. I got THE LAST set, although I'm sure more will be produced in the future.
