Random photos from my childhood

Remember those guys you picked on in school? This is what their photo album looks like.

Observe young, pale-faced GoChiefs drinking tea with annoying Jehovah's Witness kids. I think the one on the far left fancies me. My sisters are also in shot.

http://uranus.ckt.net/%7Egochiefs/17.jpg

This is me, in Scotland, with our Doberman. He's dead now. I am pictured wearing the only pair of Nikes I can recall owning.

http://uranus.ckt.net/%7Egochiefs/12.jpg

This is our first house, in Portlethen, Scotland. Chief (same dog) is guarding the front door - censored.

http://uranus.ckt.net/%7Egochiefs/1.jpg

This is our second house in Newtonhill, Scotland. I am in the background, doing hard labor in the back yard as my mother laughs maniacally.

http://uranus.ckt.net/%7Egochiefs/9.jpg

The stairs from Newtonhill. This photo shows the beginning of my "Dick Tracy/Pirates" phase. I think I still have that shirt somewhere.

More coming...

Even better - Halliburton. They flew us to America every summer. :D

Hammock Parties 05-21-2008 05:54 PM

COMING TO AMERICA! This is my grandmother's house, at a garage sale. Note my fixation on the gameboy. This will become a theme. In shot are my cousin and sister.

http://uranus.ckt.net/%7Egochiefs/15.jpg

I couldn't put down that damn gameboy. While cousin, grandfather and sisters mugged for the camera, I tried to reach Level 4, or someshit.

http://uranus.ckt.net/%7Egochiefs/24.jpg

The addiction grows. I am enraptured by the NES at my Uncle's house in Oregon. Also, it was in this room that I first viewed Star Wars...

http://uranus.ckt.net/%7Egochiefs/8.jpg

...on the horrible little TV set pictured here. Also, Star Trek. My uncle appears. Note the Dick Tracy shirt.

http://uranus.ckt.net/%7Egochiefs/6.jpg

This is my "49ers/shaved head" phase. Also, red socks. The house is my father's parents.

http://uranus.ckt.net/%7Egochiefs/16.jpg

Welcome to Leavenworth. The one in the greater northwest. Also, Kansas City Chiefs. And horrible, horrible socks.

Welcome to Carrollton, Texas. Where we eat donuts. By the artifical pond. And make complete asses of ourselves by flashing the Vulcan "Live Long and Prosper" sign. Note my blue Texas Rangers shirt. I liked baseball a lot more back then.

http://uranus.ckt.net/%7Egochiefs/18.jpg

Go Chiefs - in Colorado. And tuck your jeans into your shoes, son. It looks rad. I bet I unwittingly pissed off a bunch of Broncos fans by wearing that shirt.

http://uranus.ckt.net/%7Egochiefs/25.jpg

Let's go to school with our pants hitched way the hell up. Thanks, Mom. Our backyard in Carrollton. I cleaned that pool hundreds of times.

http://uranus.ckt.net/%7Egochiefs/5.jpg

And what did we DO at McCoy Elementary? We won student of the week or some shit like that. Unfortunately, I won the award in the middle of our renaissance festival, or something. I look kind of like a cross between Han Solo, Indiana Jones and a puritan. WHAT THE **** IS THAT HAIRCUT?

http://uranus.ckt.net/%7Egochiefs/7.jpg

Let's all go to middle school. And tuck our batman shirts into our underwear, while still hitching our pants way the hell up. Hey, look! Chief is still alive.

http://uranus.ckt.net/%7Egochiefs/3.jpg

This is my room during high school. Isn't the decor lovely? Elvis Grbac photos are hanging to my left. Joe Montana is on the closet door.

MTG#10 05-21-2008 06:28 PM

You're lucky you have all these. I only have 4-5 pictures left from my childhood. My house burned down when I was 9 and they all went with it. :(

ChiefaRoo 05-21-2008 06:30 PM

Why did your mom tuck your shirts in like that? It's like you're begging to be wedgied and hung on a hook.

FAX 05-21-2008 06:32 PM

Thanks. I feel very privileged. I want to follow in my father's footsteps and hit the Middle East next. He has been everywhere, though. EVERYWHERE. Japan, Russia, Africa, South America, all over Europe, Mexico, the US of course, probably a dozen places I don't remember. Egypt. Halliburton rules!

North east corner of Scotland. Google maps has it. Newtonhill is a few miles south of Portlethen. They are both very close to the sea. We used to go down all the time. One time I fell in the North Sea in the dead of winter. They have a big golf course out by Porthlethen now.

There's no denying that those are from Scotland. My paternal grandmother is apparently going to be dead soon, so I may be taking the family to the UK. I may have to go back to the old country.

I haven't gone back since we left. But we used to go to the beach all the time. We didn't know any better. It was fun.

One time I found a glowing egg amidst the rocks, and it had a beastie inside. He became my best friend.

There's line that Billy Connolly said once:

50 miles away, oil workers were being told, "This is the North Sea. If you fall in, you'll only have ten minutes before hypothermia sets in and you'll die. At the same time, Scottish mothers were taking the clothes off their kids and saying, "Alright, in ya go."

I wish I could find a WAV or video of that.

Gorgeous area, no? I love going to Leavenworth. It's a quaint little mountain town with a Dutch theme. Even the McDonald's is a Dutch style building. It may be some other Scandanavian country. I don't know, I get confused by all the different kinds of Euro trash.
