Around 12:15pm today I was driving with my girlfriend down Swope Parkway about a block from prospect and some kid about my age (early 20's) flew, literally, across the median at us. It was pretty interesting seeing a car upside down and 4 or so feet off the ground... missed the first car by going over its hood, slid on its roof into the next car down the side of it right into the up coming Tahoe which kicked it into the side of my car. Car slid another 50 feet on its roof uphill before finally coming to a rest. It was pretty surreal seeing all that and having never seen a wreck before. I was pretty happy with myself because I didnt panic or freak. I stayed calm and slowed down and didnt swerve wildly, and at the last second when the car got smashed into my direction, swerved up onto the curb and avoided the head-on (and the light pole) and took it down the side... my doors are ****ed. Sorry no pics... dont have a digital, but I wish I did.
I drive an 06 Chevy HHR, both doors are done for on the drivers side. Front wheel got hit and knocked steering our of alignment (need to get all that checked for sure since its FWD). Got the back part of the front fender, mashed bottoms of doors and stopped at the front of the rear fender... doesnt seem to have done any frame damage (not an expert though). Luckily I have $50 deductible on all collisions. Driver of the flying car could not provide proof on insurance at the scene (girlfriends car... he's super ****ed). No injuries at the wreck except the common whiplash and such. My drive from KC To CoMo was interesting with my make shift duct tape seal keeping air and water out of the 4inch gap I have around the top and back of my driver side door... latches though... We were all pretty luck today. Anyone else have some "1st wreck" stories? I hope none have any death or serious injuries in them. Side note: a 6 inch piece of the other cars bumper ended up in the floor of my car by my feet. |
Dude got inverted and was in a good enough state to discuss insurance? Lucky guy.

Raely? Hpoe yuor ok.

Damn. Hope you and the GF are OK. Sounds like the inverted guy was one lucky SOB.

Thanks, yeah we are... just stiff necks and backs. Everybody went running up to the car after it stopped sliding and I got out of my car and dialed 911 (all circuits are busy of course) and went to go check on the driver but then stopped after about 4 steps because I thought he was dead. I did not want to see that... so I double checked my girlfriend and just sat on the curb and waited for the sirens to get there. Ambulance was there in less than 2 minutes from the time I got out of the car too... Cops were less than a minute behind them.

Glad you're OK BTW. Any idea why the dude was flying upside-down to begin with?

4 blocks East or West of Prospect? I went to Rockhurst University and lived at 54th and Troost for a couple of years. West of Prospect brings you closer to Rockhurst and a little more stable. IMO the further East you get of Troost the more sketch it is. 1 Block West of Troost (Rockhill) is a fine area that has really started to come around over the past few years. |
I live close to there and I am white. I think you are safe. Just don't expect any service from any place around there.

That ended up being a bad move. I slammed at 60 mph into the back of a stationary 18-wheeler that was dead on the ramp ahead of me just over the rise. My Volkswagen Rabbit ended up with a 15" front end. The guys behind me said that I hit the truck, vaulted several feet in the air, and came down in my own tracks. I lifted the shattered windshield off of my lap and walked out. My right eyebrow was sheared off below the skin, but I had few other injuries, except for bruises. These days, my right eyebrow grows in with white hair, while the other grows in with dark hair. I've always figured that I'm living on borrowed time since then. |

Too bad, guys. You could have had a world with one fewer Bronco backer. |
Dude, I would have jumped out of the car, busted a cap in every occupant of the vehicle, jacked the next vehicle to come by and driven it to the loading docks where I launch it off a ramp into the ocean...but jump out mid-flight and swim to the helicopter tour station. Steal a 'copter and fly it to Manhattan and jump out onto the statue of Liberty. Then go get a hot dog.
But, that's because I've been playing GTA IV. (on PS3 -- SHILL!) Hope you and the GF are OK. and I hope you got a BJ or at least an HJ after all that. Nice evasion skills. |

Glad you're okay Bow, I've had quite a few accidents that I was blessed to walk away from. My first was a hit and run that tore the fender off of my mother's Buick. |

Glad you're OK.
My first and only accident was coming home from a Blues hockey game in 2000. I had a literally brand new Jeep Wrangler, my third day with it. Anyway, we were traveling northbound on Highway 109 in Eureka, which is pretty winding and sloped. A light snow had just started to fall. We were coming up a pretty steep grade at the speed limit (45) and just about to come around a slight bend when a van is in our lane - sideways. No time to react, and bam. Head on collision at 45mph. Apparently, he was traveling too fast for the conditions, got to the crest of the hill and lost control. So he's coming downhill sideways in our lane, with no time to react because of the slight bend in the road. There were something like 7 people in the van, and none of them were hurt. My ex-wife broke her wrist, and I was thrown into the airbag, then thrown backwards - with my ass well off of the seat - into the rollbar over my head. Split my melon pretty good - was bleeding everywhere. Took 13 staples to close up. Anyway, the Jeep was totaled, and the injury settlement for my ex and I was enough to pay our medical bills and put a down payment on our first home. |

I no longer have the wife or the house, but I still have all the side effects of multiple concussions. Yay me. |
