I saw Eddie Izzard live last night

I drove down to Minneapolis and saw his new tour: "Stripped". It's the first comedy tour he's done in six years, so I figured this may be my only chance for awhile to see the guy live, especially if he's finding success with his acting.

Unbelievable. Simply incredible. For those of you who have seen his popular "Dress to Kill" on HBO or maybe other videos of him, do yourself a favor and see the man live. First time I watched him I was pounding my chair laughing. Live it's even better. The man doesn't stop, and his bits of physical/slapstick comedy are outrageous.

The "direction" he wanted to go in for this tour (though me may do completely new topics every night... I wouldn't know... he does completely new jokes every show I know that) was similar to Dress to Kill in that he was big into history. Did a lot of ancient civilization jokes with the Greeks and Romans, and went on various tangents onto other subjects including opera and bison/buffalo.

Anyway, yeah... in person there's just something awesome. I'm sure when I buy the DVD of this show it will be less funny than the other shows he's done before, but in person it was the most I've ever laughed at any comedian/play/movie... whatever. Well worth it.

And a recommendation for you Kansas Citians.... if you can, get tickets. He's doing his show in Kansas City at the Uptown Theatre on May 31st. I know that's really short notice, and the tickets might be sold out by now, but if you're looking for something to do on Saturday and you can get tickets, you'll love this guy.

Oh yeah... and this show around he dresses up like a man.

Pablo 05-28-2008 10:54 PM

Eh...I didn't find his "Dress to Kill" special to be all that funny, but that's just me.

Megbert 05-28-2008 10:55 PM

He played 2 shows here in Scottsdale last August. Some sort of 'limited engagement' or some such. Seemed like a 'warm up' show to an extent - like he was trying out new material. Really funny. I agree see him live.

I think that "Dress to Kill" was undoubtedly the best and most challenging comedy performance that I've ever seen.

I'd really like to see Izzard work live. Good move paying for the ticket.

I wouldn't go that far, but I do enjoy his stuff.

I like most of his stuff as well, and I've never enjoyed him as much since that one, but that one performance was just spot on perfect.

I think Eddie Izzard is hilarious. Love Dressed to Kill.

And they will DIE! A ha ha ha. I have hidden berries under a rock. There will be no berries. And then some animals will DIE.'"

Arnold Vader: Luke, the force is quite strong with you.

Luke: Is it?

Arnold Vader: [Long Pause] Yeah.

Luke: Well, how strong?

Arnold Vader: [Another Pause] As strong as a small pony.

I hate his comedy and I hate him. He's terrible. I don't find him funny at all.

Color me jealous. I think the guy is one of the best comedians I've seen in a long time.

That's because you find yourself strangely attracted to him.

Sully 05-29-2008 08:16 AM

He absolutely kills me.
I'd love to see him live.

morphius 05-29-2008 08:33 AM

Damn, I didn't know he was coming to town and it is sold out. Crap!

Dress to Kill just had me rolling on the floor, he was so damn fugly in that dress that I almost didn't watch it.

For some reason the legos make this one funnier.

GAWD DAMMIT! First Flight of the Conchords, now Eddie Izzard. I've wanted to see both of them live, but have missed the announcement when they've come to town until they were already sold out.

Eddie Izzard will be playing literally within around 200 feet of where I am right now, and I won't get to go unless I fork out a few hundred to buy tix from a scalper.

And....It's no so much of a maneuver yet, more like a gesture.

I don't speak French and it was still freaking hilarious.

That, and what kind of balls and inventiveness do you have to have to do a segment in French for an English speaking audience?

I never laughed so hard when he talked about Neil Armstrong rehearsing what he'd say the minute he step foot on the moon.

What he said had to be poetic and historical. He couldn't just say "umm...its...rather sticky"
