Live streaming from storm chasers...

http://www.tornadovideos.net/index.cfm/do/s.LiveTracker

Lots of tornado videos on their site also. They film them now during the stormy season and then they are aired on Discover channel during the fall episodes of "Storm Chasers".

Thought the streaming of Live chasing was pretty cool.

Wish they would have been up here to get the "EF5" Tornado that hit Parkersburg, Iowa on Sunday as there are only a few short videos out there so far.

We drove around and looked at the aftermath last night. it's just incredible what 200 MPH winds will do!

Its hard to comprehend the damage watching the news on TV. To see it and live it first hand for those people must be unreal and hard to get through each day.

Chieficus 05-29-2008 12:03 PM

Crap, I went to school with a couple of those guys...

The first guy listed on the "about us" section--Timmer--is a certified nutcase, he'll put himself in just about any position to get footage, but he will get some dang good footage...

The thought of watching live storm chasing sounds like the most boring thing ever. 95% of the time they're just driving around in the middle of nowhere. The clips we see make the whole thing seem much more glamorous than it really is.

If they're smart they'll be up around here, it definitely feels like tornado weather today.

It's the thrill of the chase, man. :)

95% of it is mostly driving around, when I was down in Norman, OK, went on a few chases that lasted 850 or so miles and took 14+ hours. Most of it was driving around to get started, but once the storms fired and you had them in sight, there was nothing boring about the driving whatsoever...

I was thinking about driving up today. My sister lives in Omaha and I'm only about four hours away. But with gas at $4/gal right now I'm not in much of a storm chasing mood... :(

Oh, I won't argue that actually DOING IT would be fun. I just don't see much fun in sitting around my computer for hours hoping that they'll see something.

That's true... I wouldn't do that either, but if warnings were posted for the area where they're at, I'd bring it up to see...

Yeah, at these prices you're better off waiting for the storm to chase YOU. :)

Back before I graduated ('03) we griped and would debate about going out if prices were $1.50 or more... of course, me and the guys I chased with were all a bunch of poor, jobless college students then too... :)

Still... yeah, if the major threat is not within a 100 mile radius right now, I ain't going...

I agree, I had never seen tornado damage close up. It is truly just devastating as hell.

I do have to say that the technology that makes that site tick is pretty cool. It's nothing special by today's standards, but it's amazing to me that we can have a video camera in the middle of a field, linked up to a laptop with cell-based internet, combined with a gps receiver that uploads coordinates, all linked to a web site that shows the video, the location where the video is being filmed, and overlays a weather radar on top of it.

Yeah, I don't think my connection is fast enough. If I do get something it will buffer every 5 seconds.

These are some pics from the "EF5" Tornado before it hit Parkersburg, Iowa on last Sunday.

The National weather service reported at this stage the tornado had just touched down and was 3/4 mile wide with winds up to 205 MPH!

It's intensity decreased as it moved another 43 miles across Iowa for 1 hour and 10 minutes but as it approached Dunkerton, Iowa it's base increased to 1.2 miles wide!
