Bernie Mac is dead?

http://www.postchronicle.com/news/or...12163524.shtml

Comedian Bernie Mac died at Northwestern Memorial hospital. Bernie Mac passed away early Saturday morning, according to Sun-Times Columnist, Stella Foster. He was 50 years young.

<TABLE cellSpacing=2 cellPadding=5 width=80 align=left border=0><TBODY><TR><TD>http://www.postchronicle.com/images/...s/mac1_001.jpg</TD></TR></TBODY></TABLE>While the cause of death has not been confirmed, Mac had been hospitalized recently for a bout with pneumonia, one he seems to have unfortunately lost.
Foster indicated to the Associated Press that she had gotten calls early Saturday morning from a close friend of the Mac family, confirming the reports of Mac's death.
On Friday (01Aug08), a spokeswoman for the actor, whose real name is, Bernard McCullough, stated that the actor had been responding well to treatment for the illness.
Mac's publicist Danica Smith said Thursday in a statement that his condition was ''stable.''
After news of his illness broke last Friday, Smith spent the weekend playing down reports Mac's health had rapidly deteriorated, with some rumours claiming he had died.
<CENTER><TABLE cellSpacing=1 cellPadding=1 width="100%"><TBODY><TR><TD vAlign=top align=left></TD></TR></TBODY></TABLE></CENTER>Speaking on Sunday (03Aug08), she insisted, "Bernie Mac is still alive and being treated in a Chicago hospital for pneumonia and is expected to make a full recovery. (He is) responding well to treatment and will be released soon."
There is no current word on whether public services will be held.
The 50-year-old performer was best known for his work on The Bernie Mac Show, as well as for his roles in the films Transformers, Head of State, Charlie's Angels: Full Throttle and Ocean's Eleven and its two sequels.

If the story is true the dude had no reason to die. Same thing killed him as Jim Henson(creator of the Muppets).

Both had a "cold" or "flu" that wouldn't go away. They take nothing to get rid of the congestion. Pneumonia bugs gain a foothold in the secretions in the lungs. It spreads and by the time they go for help and get some anti-botics its too late because its become systemic(in the blood) and your life is in real danger.

Moral of the story........if you have a cold or flu that won't go away go see a dr. and have them take a culture/swap and see if your life is in danger and you don't even know

BigRedChief 08-09-2008 07:21 AM

CNN and Bernies family have confirmed that he's gone.

A friend at work came close to death from the same thing. He'd been coughing and feeling weak and looking like crap for a couple of weeks. I'd been telling him nicely for a few days that he needed to see a doctor but he wasn't listening. Finally one morning I'd had enough and got real stern with him, told him to go to the emergency room and not to come back until he'd seen a doctor. He saw a lot of doctors, he was in the hospital for a week. If he'd gone earlier some antibiotics would have cleared him up in a few days. Dumb.

And RIP Bernie Mac.

Wow. The other day Superman III was on, the one with Richard Pryor in it, my kids asked me if that was Bernie Mac...I laughed because it was a similar type of act/comedy and they had no clue who Pryor was. Anyways, RIP funny guy.

This is really sad...
I was the biggest cheerleader for his show. Any time I had a chance I would tell people just how good his sitcom was. Probably one of the best in the last 10 years.

I loved it when he felt the people in his house were conspiring against him and then they'd cut to him sitting in his chair addressing the camera and he'd shout "cahoots!!!"
That cracked me up everytime

Bernie will be missed. One of my favorite memories is his first time on Def Comedy Jam in 1991 (I think) it was a classice stand-up routine. He came on stage and told the audience that he wasn't scared of you motherf***ers! It was great! Also parents across the world can say he help scare kids across the world with the " I'll hit you in the head until the white meat shows!" RIP Bernie, you will be greatly missed!

Def Comedy Jam. There was a monumental launching pad for a ton of black comedians back in the early 90's.

I remember watching episodes of that and laughing so hard it hurt.
