occupation question

any freight brokers in the house?

Phobia 08-13-2008 07:36 PM

I'm pretty sure my ex-wife would now be considered freight. How can I help you?

just trying to assess the going rate;)

one of my soccer player's dad is a broker and does QUITE well. 4 person staff, and he pretty much has it on auto-pilot. I'm sure he's busted his tail, and had some key contacts, but it seems like a pretty sweet gig.

Isn't that what Roy C does?

Affirmative. You'll have to pay the $99.95 again as well.

Well hell, I don't think I can find another $99.95 in my under my sofa cushions.
It took years to save that much by accident.

cdcox 08-13-2008 08:21 PM

Fatchatter says my user name doesn't exist.

It said the same for me, which is why I asked about having to re-register.

Ok, just give me all your casino cash and I'll let you back in.

Fatchatter isn't like a post-Phobia Chiefsplanet.

I expect my account to be fixed as soon as they know about the problem.

Apparently Simplex messed something up when he transferred the site to the new server, so he had to set up a new board. As I understand it he is currently working on getting the old threads moved to the new one.

Heh. I don't doubt that. I've rather neglected my garden this year. Too much going on, what with the newspaper and everything else. I killed my hanging 'maters but the others are producing. In fact, I'm making a giant pot of marinara ATM. Oh - and there's a brisket and pork butt on the smoker.

I'm left to assume hi-jacking is an occupational hazard in this industry:shrug:

You have to have contacts, not only the shippers but the carriers to haul the freight. As the fuel prices climb, it is putting a hard squeeze on the broker because of the cost. Trucking companies are contracting the freight at a lower price because they eliminate you, the middle man.

If you are thinking of starting out, cold turkey, I would advise you differently until you have some experience and a good plan to cash flow the business. Starting and paying the carriers yourself is almost impossible now unless you have several major accounts that know you and you have a reputation ALREADY established with several carriers. Carriers are wanting paid quickly now days due to the rising cost.

Cash Flow and your reputation is a serious problem for opening a new brokerage ....... It's better to hook up with a responsible, dependable carrier and work as an agent, like I do. You don't have to have the cash flow and you have minimal risk compared to the company that you work for by commissions .

Any other questions, PM me.
