What to drink?
Well, since I'm saving money by not getting gas to go to KC, I might as well splurge on something good to drink tonight. Any suggestions?
I'm not a tequila fan. Never tried gin or bourbon. Any mixed drinks...please provide recipe. |

Does anyone drink "Old Fashioneds" anymore? I haven't had one in a long time, but they weren't too bad, as I recall, Ms. luv.
Just bourbon, bitters, sugar, and soda, I think. Maybe a lemon twist, or something. FAX |

I don't know. Complex, fancy drink recipes are kind of overkill when you're drinking alone. Just buy some cheap wine, unscrew the lid, and guzzle. It's best if it drips down your chin onto your belly.

Try a gin Martini. Since it may be your 1st, splurge a little on Bombay Sapphire. Stick a glass in the freezer for 30 minutes or so and let it get nice and cold. Doesn't need to be a martini glass, but they're nice to have around so you may want to get a couple for future use. If you don't have a shaker, put ice and gin in a glass, cover the top of the glass with something and shake vigorously. Pour gin into your nice cold glass and enjoy. If you have a couple of fat olives stick a toothpick in them and put them in the drink as well. It's refreshing and quick.

Try a mojito. They are simple. Just rum, simple syrup, mint and club soda.

Speaking of fu-fu drinks, has anybody ever tried some flavored rum from Jamaica from World's End? We just happened to grab a couple of bottles at the duty free on the way out, and the stuff turned out great. Can't find anyone in the KC area that's even heard of the stuff.

And if you're making a Martini with Gin, slowly shake it, unlike Vodka, Gin will bruise. |

Summer Brew. Used to make this for warm weather parties.
Take a frozen lemonade can thingy. Empty into cooler. Fill can with vodka. Empty into cooler 8-12 beers (estimate). Empty into cooler. Ice. Empty into cooler. Drink. Take pictures. Hate life next morning. |

I know nothing of "mixed drinks" ... there are too many good beers out there to bother with anything else.

I'd recommend a new beer, but I have no idea what you've had or not, and that would take a long time to figure out. There's still a few beers out there I haven't tried.

Yeah I haven't tried them either ... heard good things about them. I think they are all heavier, darker beers ...

An exotic flavor of schnapps. In fact, if you find a good one, let me know, because I need to invest in a bottle. I've always liked schnapps. I want to like it more.

Here's a refreshing concoction I enjoy, especially in the summer. I'm sure it has a name but I don't know what it is.
In a tall glass, filled with ice. Juice of 1/2 lime 1 part light rum 1 part cranberry - I like the no sugar added cranberry as opposed to the "cocktail" 2 parts club soda or tonic Shake, drink, be happy. |

Good inexpensive vodka = Sobieski or Luksusowa Vodka from Poland Smirnoff's and Tito's.
Good inexpensive gin = Beefeater's, Seagrams Buy one of the above, get some cranberry juice, grapefruit juice (I like the red) and/or a container of orange/pineapple/banana juice. A lemon or lime, if you like. Pour a shot of vodka over ice in a tall glass. Fill with juice, garnish with slice of lime/lemon. Fill another smaller glass with ice and water, garnish it with lime/lemon, too. Enjoy your drinks. Be sure you drink your glass of water before you repeat. When I was a real drinking man, drinking water between real drinks was a lifesaver. |
list what you have on hand
-this thread has me thinking about a boiler maker never had one -at least not in the same glass |

FWIW, Everclear and filtered water = vodka, for all intents and purposes. Buy some half and half, mix kahlua, everclear/water and cream for white russians. Drink a few, attack Georgia!

About 2 tsp of sugar in the bottom of the glass. 3 drops of bitters muddle an orange slice in the sugar and bitters Add ice to the top of the glass. Rye wiskey (my favorite over bourbon, Canadian Mist or Scotch, which are alternatives) about 3/4 of the way up the glass. Add a little water. Stir well and garnish with a marchiano cherry. |
I haven't had one in a few years, but a Caipirinha is a great summer cocktail:
2 tsp granulated sugar half a lime, wedged 2 1/2 oz cachaca Muddle the sugar into the lime wedges in an old-fashioned glass. Fill the glass with ice cubes. Pour the cachaca into the glass. Stir well. |
