I got my hands on the new CD in its entirety and I'm playing it right now. I just got the Cease And Desist order. They arent very happy with me. We are the only station in America that has it! And thats according to the band!

I didnt accidentally play it, I purposefully played knowing it would piss them off. We just kept tracking the album until the MGMT sent us legal papers telling us to stop. They also told us, at that moment, we were the only ones in the country. Now apparently98 Rock in KC has it. Which I hope is true, so we can start playing it again. :evil:

Personally, I think it's funny to listen to Lars try and come up with a completely new, fresh approach to the HM backbeat on these songs - regardless of how distracting it may be. You go, Lars.

Apparently, a French record store sold the CD early, so the story goes, and the purchaser has let it be leaked. Thats how I got it.

I am not a die hard metallica guy. I loved the old stuff. Load and on was ok. I didn't understand the hype behind them selling out until I really started playing guitar and drums in 2000's. Then I understood metal or not. I know it is really cool to hate on metallica, but I also thinks it speaks volumes about how large this band is considering we are supposed to hate on them for being greedy, yet we have 6 or 7 threads on here about metallica, and a person "may I say?" bragging that she is in trouble with metallica? They don't do that shit for Six pence on the richer...that is for sure.

Agreed. being in rock radio for eons, i have heard the metallica sucks debate since Ride the ****ing Lightning. It is old, but as you say it speaks volumes about how big they are. In fact, in radio, they are their own musical category. They are the only band in rock that you could play every hour and no one would complain. its amazing. I'm a rock radio programmer, not just a Dj. Its true.

BTW, this without a doubt sounds like the old stuff.

I used to love Metallica. I have no interest in their new music. They became irrelevant years ago.

They went back to classical scales and dual lead solo's from what I heard. Much more metal (hides from reaper) than before

maybe to you, but this album is recieving mega hype. It will probably be #1 on the charts. Every rock station across the US is clamoring for it. They have become a lightning rod on what is right and wrong with music today. Maybe they suck, maybe they rule, but no doubt this weekend we will see they are as relevant as ever.

Not for me. I cant stand Nickelback In fact, after I got back from Hawaii one time (and all I heard in maui was Nickelback), I boycotted nickelback form my show for a week. And i made no bones about it. I let the listeners know exactly what I was doing. They supported me fully.

Oh yeah! It is going to enormous. I'm not sure who's going on tour wit them, but I know they were in talks with Disturbed. That would be Huge!

The would be HUGE. Probably the only way I would go see it. Disturbed kicks azz!!!! Best metal band in recent memory. IMO

I thought I heard them play the new AC/DC tune Rock Train already, but maybe it was someone else... Oh, well. I like the new AC/DC song, but I don't love it. All the same I'm still excited to hear the rest of the album. Stiff Upper Lip was pretty cool, so I'll probably like this too.

If they had any cojones, they'd take a solid, unsigned HM band on the road with them. They could pull it off and make a tremendous artistic and industry statement at the same time. Music used to matter. Bring back the commitment, Metallica!!

Metallica bashing has become some "cool" and common these days. I just don't get it. Aside from St. Anger, every single Metallica album has produced great classic rock songs. Then again I'm not obssesed with Metallica needing to sound the same as they did in the 80's. I just like good rock music regardless of who makes it.

The new AC/DC isnt bad. its straight ahead AC/DC. they didnt try to reinvent the wheel or anything. I like it, but you're right, its not gonna knock your socks off.

i've never liked metallica... not because of st anger, not because of the napster shit. but because they suck. their whole sound is just really annoying to me.

Whats funny is I remember when Ride came out. They were bitchng then. Every single album has produced whiners, pissed off that they changed their sound. And I have heard it after every CD. Funny tho, not this one. The reaction from the listners is surprise. Its like Whiplash on Steriods.

I agree, St Anger completely blows, but the band has really put out some quality stuff. But the 'purist" want them to continue on the same path they were on with Kill em All. I guess those people are still on the same path they were on in 1984. Same hair, same jeans, same job. God knows growth and progress arent allowed.

They've been getting bashed since "Ride the Lightning" came out. The fans were pissed that they used acoustic guitars and slowed down a bit. You cant make Metallica fans happy, yet for some reason with all that bitchin, the band continues to sell millions of records and sell out tours. Can't imagine why....

Growth and Progress? lol, growth and progress of what? Their checkbooks? Their music has been progressively weaker and tamer since <i>And Justice For All</i>. Lars' drumming has become even lazier since that release (never thought it was possible).

On top of that, they're a bunch of douchebag dickheads. I know it is trite and cliche to call a band "sell out", but that's EXACTLY what they've been over the past decade or so: the poster children for sell outs.

Perhaps the new album IS a return to their roots? Perhaps they finally realized they are widely despised by much of the fanbase that used to like them? IMO, f*#$ them. I don't even listen to their old shit, let alone a "modernized" rehash. They were relevant for a short period, but denigrated and clung on way past their prim IMO.

You want to hear "progressive" or "growth" in the genre? Try the new Meshuggah. Hell, try ANY Meshuggah.

Boom tap hair bands who think they're tough shit (read: Metallica, Megadeath, et al) are dinosaurs.

So, do you think its a bad idea to get as many fans as possible? To sell as many records as possible so you can acheive the American Dream? Is it wrong to excel in your chosen profession?

And quite frankly, they have sold more albums since the release of the Black Album than anthing prior. So, where do you get the idea that they have lost a wide fan base? they've gained a wider fan base since Black.

As far as Messhuggah, I agree, they are great heavy band. they've been around for quite sometime. I used to play them on my Metal show. But they dont sell enough records, therefore at some point they will lose their record contract and will have to find other ways to make music. Bands can do it, Bad religion being one of them. But often times, they cant afford not to make music that appeals to the masses.

I find it funny, how we all want to make more of ourselves and suceed to highest degrees professionally and financially, but our favorite musical artist better not.:shake:
