Sources: Brady done with severe knee injury

http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/news?slu...yhoo&type=lgns

New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady is expected to miss the rest of the 2008 season with what two sources described as a severe injury to his left knee, suffered in the first quarter of the Pats’ 17-10 victory over the Kansas City Chiefs at Gillette Stadium Sunday.

While New England coach Bill Belichick said in his postgame press conference that he had no update on the status of Brady’s injury, a source close to the quarterback indicated it involved serious damage to the knee. That could include a torn anterior cruciate ligament and perhaps other ligament and cartilage damage.

“It’s bad,” a team source said. “We’re going to have to play without him.”

Brady was hurt as he stepped up in the pocket to make a throw to wideout Randy Moss. Chiefs safety Bernard Pollard, who was on the ground, lunged forward and struck Brady’s leg, which buckled as he released the ball.

Brady was helped off the field and was later led down a staircase by team officials, presumably to undergo tests.

Fourth-year quarterback Matt Cassel, who had thrown just 39 passes in his career before Sunday, replaced Brady and completed 13 of 18 passes for 152 yards and a touchdown. Cassel, who backed up Carson Palmer and Matt Leinart at USC, hasn’t been a starting quarterback since high school. He won a competition with Matt Gutierrez during the preseason to retain the job as Brady’s primary backup.

I don't wish injury on the guy, that totally sucks. But on the other hand, the Pats always seem to make something out of nothing. Watch Cassel step up and surprise just like Brady did when Bledsoe went down. So I guess I don't feel like "Oh no, whatever will they do..." That's football.

I don't feel sorry for anyone. Pollard didn't mean to take him out for the season, it's football. I guess I felt sorry for LJ last year, but he's back. it's life.

I hate all Boston sports, so I'll be happy to see New England suck this year. It wasn't that long ago that they were a bad team.

I think the Chiefs have been making their own bad luck long before Clayton was even a glint in anybody's eye.

fuck Brady and the Cheatriots. If there's any mystical force at work here, it's karma.

Spott 09-07-2008 05:33 PM

I don't wish anyone injury, but I have a feeling there are a heck of a lot of folks in Pittsburgh, Indy, New York and Buffalo that are silently hi-fiving each other right now.

Hammock Parties 09-07-2008 05:33 PM

I was pretty sure it would be season ending even though he walked off the field. Sucks to be sure. Hopefully it is not career ending.

Seriously can Brady even do doggystyle with that injury? Will he need a brace? I hear Gisele is kinky.

Pretty much, the Pats might be able to sneak in with 9 wins without Brady with their schedule then you'll really see them plastered on TV.

I would count on at least 11. I really think Cassell is a gamer. You can go back and see my many comments throughout the last couple of years about him. He played behind Carson Palmer and Leinart.....he might be good and just never got a chance to shine. He is the only player ever to have played behind two Heisman winning quarterbacks. You have to pick one in college, maybe he just got the short end of the stick. But I'm sure out of all people you know that.

What did you think of him in his limited role at USC as a back up?

I hope for his sake he's better than he was on preseason because he's honestly never shown a whole lot. Cassell at SC was a guy who volunteered to play on special teams to get on the field.

He did enough to beat the Chiefs today...most weeks he'll need to do more than he did today.

Yes he is plastered everywhere because he is that good.

Yep! He sure was. But you gotta give him some props as he did manage the game enough to win. Granted, it's a team thing. I don't have a whole lot of faith in him...but he does deserve some props for today. Yes, even against your team.

He got the win. His best pass was the 3rd and long bomb to Moss from their own 1yd line. The TD pass to Moss was a terrible throw and he didn't make many other nice ones. Lots of dump-offs and hand offs. He did have some nice scrambles to avoid pressure and move the chains. I don't think he's a guy you can give the ball and say, "Go win the game" though.

They've also had some bad calls against them. Happens to every team. You gotta outplay those things even if some luck is part of winning for everyone. It's not like that Steeler Colt game where everything was given to the Colts and nothing to the Steelers a few years back. That was gross.

Oh absolutely! But the game will have be managed and called conservatively with him in order to win. With a weak schedule they may do okay. I don't think it means a SB run by any means.

Tom Brady is no Anthony Moreno.

Hootie 09-07-2008 07:52 PM

The Pats will still win 10-12 games...that system is bigger than any player, even Tom Brady.

Peyton Manning >>> Tom Brady
Tony Romo = Tom Brady

Put Manning on the Pats and they'd have won at least 5 or 6 Super Bowls...maybe in a row.

bullshit..the refs for several years now have been biased towards Indy and Especially NE and anyone who disagrees just hasn't been paying attention. The reason why NE lost the SB is because they didn't get their usual bullshit calls from the refs
