Merriman done for the year

Mort just reported on espn...Chargers will announce soon they are placing him on IR.

Pablo 09-09-2008 04:41 PM

I guess it didn't take long for him to realize how inneffective he'd be unless he got his sh*t fixed.

JohnnyV13 09-09-2008 04:42 PM

Not surprised. Pretty hard playing on two torn ligaments. Since ive had knees surgery twice, i know what its like.

Sure-Oz 09-09-2008 04:44 PM

That didn't take long, what a pussy

LMAO

I think he was out after 2-3 plays.

What a dumb shit. He could have taken care of this in February and been ready to go by mid season

Hey Merriman :loser:

jjchieffan 09-09-2008 05:33 PM

I wonder if this was his plan all along. If he had went on IR before the season would he have been paid just the same? What about accrued seasons? Does this season count as an accrued season because he was on the roster to start the season? I don't have a clue. I am just speculating.

Mecca 09-09-2008 05:36 PM

Yes he gets paid and all that either way.

TrickyNicky 09-09-2008 05:49 PM

People love to hate him. But if the Chargers were stupid enough to let him go after next season instead of pay him, which has been speculated they may, I would love to have him be what Donnie Edwards was to them...

Basileus777 09-09-2008 05:50 PM

I'm not surprised they are putting him on IR, he was completely ineffective against the Panthers.

Really, this guy is dumb as a box of rocks. Seriously. WTF? I guess he wanted to go out and show AJ Smith that he should get paid.

why is it assumed he is going to walk when his contract is up? This isn't baseball and they aren't the royals.

He wants 40+ mil guaranteed and AJ Smith isn't known for spending that kind of money on one player.

It is not easy to STAY healthy in the NFL. Any player can go DOWN at any time. Yep, life in the NFL can be a real BITCH!

Here is just a little icing on the cake. :D

Merriman fined $7,500 for QB hit

SAN DIEGO (AP) -- Chargers linebacker Shawne Merriman had surgery to repair two torn ligaments in his left knee on Monday.

The surgery, performed by Dr. John Uribe in the Miami area, repaired Merriman's posterior cruciate and lateral collateral ligaments. Merriman will miss the rest of the season.

The surgery went well and there was no further damage to Merriman's knee, according to a person with knowledge of the situation, who spoke on condition of anonymity because the team hadn't released any information.

Chargers general manager A.J. Smith didn't return a phone call seeking comment.

Merriman tried to play this season with the torn ligaments but announced last Tuesday that he would have surgery. He played only in the season opener, a 26-24 loss to Carolina.

Also Monday, NFL spokesman Corry Rush confirmed that Merriman was fined $7,500 for unnecessarily striking Carolina quarterback Jake Delhomme below the knees.

Merriman, a three-time Pro Bowler, had two tackles and no sacks in the Panthers game.

You know whats funny, I didnt think this was possible, as we haven't pressured the QB once this entire season.

Oh well, at least he can afford it.

Hopefully the NFL donates it to some charity.

Now I'm curious - just what does the NFL do with money that it fines players/coaches for various infractions?

That Donk Rookie LT is pretty damn good. Wish Gallery would of been somewhat close to his ability.
