Rams bench Bulger. Green to start Sunday

Just broke on Sirius NFL radio. Unbelievable

dirk digler 09-23-2008 10:24 AM

WTF?

Bowser 09-23-2008 10:25 AM

Wow.

Stinger 09-23-2008 10:25 AM

Holy Crap!!

Nightfyre 09-23-2008 10:25 AM

wtb marc bulger for QB mentor.

DeezNutz 09-23-2008 10:26 AM

Brilliant! Because anyone who has watched a Rams game knows Bulger is the problem.

blueballs 09-23-2008 10:26 AM

I hear bulger has gone bad
really really bad
Green is going to end up in a coma

Sure-Oz 09-23-2008 10:26 AM

Really....wow well i just picked him up in my league after seeing this thread..

since there are ZERO QB's available as backups in a 2 QB league and it would block anotehr team :D

KCrockaholic 09-23-2008 10:28 AM

wow, well good luck to Trent. Although i really disliked the way Trent and KC parted ways, i miss him, and what he brought to our team. so i must wish him good luck

Really? I honestly haven't watched the Rams at all but I can't imagine Green is half as good as Bulger

jjchieffan 09-23-2008 10:29 AM

This had to at Saunders urging

Report: Marc Bulger heading to the bench

NFL Network's Adam Schefter reports that Marc Bulger will be benched this week for Trent Green.
No other details are available yet, so we'll see if Bulger is healthy. If he is, this is a desperate move by a desperate team, and we doubt it will go well. Green is below league average as a starter and is unlikely to ignite this offense. Bulger signed a big contract last year, but his future with the organization is now. Fantasy owners should get the news confirmed, then feel free to drop him. Sep. 23 - 12:07 pm et

Per Rotoworld

JBucc 09-23-2008 10:30 AM

He's going to die.

evolve27 09-23-2008 10:30 AM

Thanks God, they will win under Green and we officially become the worst team.

shaneo69 09-23-2008 10:30 AM

Shoulda kept Warner...

Stinger 09-23-2008 10:31 AM

Damnit Carl!!!!! :cuss: :cuss:

Oh wait ..... nevermind

blueballs 09-23-2008 10:31 AM

we missed Brees by this much ><

Red Brooklyn 09-23-2008 10:32 AM

Wow... I wish the man well. Tear it up Trent! I miss ya, bro...

(please God, don't let Trent Green die this weekend... amen... )

The Franchise 09-23-2008 10:33 AM

Dear God Trent......just retire.

alpha_omega 09-23-2008 10:35 AM

They need to bench their whole defense....they are the only team that is worse than us at this point.

That being said....i hope Trent comes out alive.

I hope his insurance is paid up.

DJ's left nut 09-23-2008 10:40 AM

Bulger needed the down time.

He's is more jittery than Thigpen back there. He's constantly feeling heat, even when it isn't there. He isn't stepping into throws, he's firing early.

In all honesty, he looks a lot like Thigpen. He's just unloading to avoid a hit and not even really worrying about where he throws it. It's sad to see how far he's fallen due to little more than the gross incompetence of his coaching staff and front office.

Buehler445 09-23-2008 10:40 AM

I bet Trent said, "seiously guys, this is NOT what I signed on for."

Someone is trying to save their job. And as much as I love the guy, I don't think Trent Green is the answer.

In all seriousness, I truely hope that he does not jeopardize his future. He is a smart man who is in a position to have a great life after football. I hope he doesn't flush it.

Sorry. I was being a smartass. The Rams O-line is worse than KC's. I'm actually worried for Green.

Over/Under on minutes till his brain is mush?

Mr. Flopnuts 09-23-2008 10:57 AM

Part of me wants to be happy for him. If I'd known how much he saw the writing on the wall at the time, I never would've been upset about the tantrum he threw to get out of here. In hindsight it's pretty understandable now. However, him taking live snaps for a team that awful can only lead to one thing..........

I was reeruned and didn't look at my QB bye weeks when I drafted.....Both Peyton Manning and Matt Hassellbeck are on their bye weeks.

I think I might pick up Green off of waivers. Or Maybe Trent Edwards.....he's been playing well.

Thanks for the info.... just picked him up. It's never good when a team rules a player out on Tuesday or call a knee injury week to week.

Precisely, Bulger does not like Saunders version of Martz's O. Bulger is fighting it and it definitely shows and Green knows this O PERIOD. Green has a death wish though. He will get killed or surprisingly spark this O.

Gonzo 09-23-2008 11:16 AM

The Rams are actually making an effort to get better????

Wow

Gravedigger 09-23-2008 11:37 AM

I do think that Bulger is a bit overrated, don't get me wrong better than Green after his concussions and better than what we have, but still overrated none the less.

Green's last trip to Buffalo wasn't pretty as a Chief.

Sure-Oz 09-23-2008 11:40 AM

Someone cut him in my league today but i have a #9 waiver, so im ****ed

Lurker2:-)=) 09-23-2008 12:23 PM

Please, Trent doesn't deserve this.

From ESPN:http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=3604491

"Bulger completed only 52 of 89 attempts for 519 yards in this first three games, but pass protection has been the big problem. He's been sacked 11 times."

It's *only* 11 sacks because the Seahawks only got to Bulger one time last week...

One ESPN theory is that this might mean OC Saunders is the likely candidate to replace Linehan *when* he gets fired: http://myespn.go.com/blogs/nfcwest/0...-benching.html

"The Rams signed Green during the offseason because Green knew Saunders' offense and because Green is an experienced passer with established leadership skills.

The Rams need to protect Green, whose history of concussions makes him a high-risk starter. Green, 38, started every game for the Chiefs when Saunders was their offensive coordinator from 2001 to 2005. Green has passed for 27,950 yards and 162 touchdowns in 15 NFL seasons. His career passer rating is 86.9.

Bulger, 31, has two touchdown passes, two interceptions and a 73.2 rating in three starts this season. The Rams rank 31st in total offense, 31st in yards per pass and 32nd in third-down conversion rate. Opponents have outgained the Rams by 763 yards this season.

St. Louis has averaged only 9.7 points per game this season. Bulger wasn't the only problem, but management apparently wasn't ready to fire Linehan just yet."

Frazod 09-23-2008 12:26 PM

If Trent had retired two years ago he'd have a cushy analyst job right now. He's spent the past two seasons ruining his reputation, and after this weekend, he may well end up a drooling vegetable.

Very sad.

You may be the only person in the world who jumped to that conclusion. Well, you and Trent's mom.

Hootie 09-23-2008 12:42 PM

dude please Trent, tear it up! I picked him up in my $$$ fantasy league for trade bait.

I always, ALWAYS, always thought Bulger was overrated.

That's just what I was thinking Fraz. I wondr how much playing for shitty teams has damaged his ability to get to TV when he is done. That's not to mention his health concerns. And he didn't do it for earthshattering contracts. I have to wonder why he didn't walk away when he was still regarded as a very good QB at the end of his career.

I was ripped on this board a couple of years ago for saying just that.

I remember he was a big part of draft coverage for NFLN or ESPN (can't remember which) a couple of years ago. I really got the sense that they were grooming him for a studio job. But now, I doubt if he could get anything outside of Kansas City or St. Louis.

I realize that it's hard for these guys to face the end of their playing careers, but damn, he's playing for THE RAMS. There will be no playoff run, no Super Bowl, just pain, suffering and losing. Dude's just plain out of his mind.

Deberg_1990 09-23-2008 01:51 PM

Ive heard rumours of the Rams bringing in Vermeil for a consultant role there. Basically to help clean up the front office.

Great! Maybe DV can return the favor with Carl and hire him away. :doh!::doh!:

ROFL

So, DV The Regulator is going to ride in and clean up the town? Check your firearms at the saloon door and there will be no rapes, murder, spitting in the street, vandalism, or reaches in the draft. Not in my franchise.

What sucks most about this news is that now the Lambs will be in the running for the best QB in the draft, and they are the only team that may finish with a record worse than the chiefs.

Nightfyre 09-23-2008 03:41 PM

If the Rams get the #1 pick and don't take Oher, I'm pretty sure there will be riots in StL.

jjchieffan 09-24-2008 09:39 AM

After they broke the story yesterday, Sirius Blitz called up Tory Holt to get his take on it. Apparently they broke the news to him as well because they said he declined the interview because he had to make some calls and find out what was going on.

It's sad.

I liked Trent. Not right away, mind you, but he grew on me.

He wasn't smart, but he was tough. He blocked, he ran, he took the hits. He was like a re-Deberg.

I really don't want to watch him get ****ed up...
